Saks: style by decade

Filed under: Stores We Love, Style in the News, Vintage and Retro, Celebrities with Style

If you're into fashion nostalgia, you've got to check out what Sak's has going on in the Decades of Style portion of their website. The new feature allows you to do a little shopping time-travel -- browsing through clothing inspired by the fab decades of the 20th century. Whether you fancy yourself a 20's flapper or a 60's mod type, you can search for you're look in chronological order.

This is a really cool idea and I think other stores should rip it off. I wish they had something like this for the men's website -- it makes finding things way easier. I couldn't help but notice that they left out the 30's and 40's -- I guess they didn't think anyone would want threadbare styles from the 20's?

P.S. Does anybody know who they've got pictured as the 50's icon?

With Green House, Saks must think eco is chic

Filed under: Handbags, Stores We Love, Accessories, Men, Hair Care, Cosmetics, Skin Care, Style for a Cause

saks fifth avenue green houseIt must be official. Though I hadn't yet formed an opinion either way. a lot of people were saying that "eco" in fashion and style was a passing fancy. Like shoulder pads, leggings, and eelskin, eco is just another trend that would be hot for a while, but eventually die out.

Oh wait, leggings came back in a big way, and apparently, Saks is putting their money on eco. They now have a (sort of) permanent section on their online store called Green House, "the home of eco smart style." Structured just like the rest of the site, there are sections for women's apparel, accessories, beauty, and men. I'm guessing with this entire section dedicated to eco brands like Beau Soleil, Loomstate, and Organic, Saks thinks eco is worth it. Of course, we'll wait and see if they put a permanent link to it, instead of from a promo section on their front page.

Luxury shoppers might start crowding our H&Ms and Targets

shopping
If you only wear the affordable GO! collections at Target and love shopping at H&M, watch out. It might get a little more crowded this year.

That's because "luxury" shoppers aren't shopping as much at their usual high-end stores.

According to BusinessWeek, stores like Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Neiman Marcus saw tiny Holiday increases in sales, if not a drop, this past season, and are expecting a major slowdown. Retail expert Patricia Pao says, "Everyone's shopping for the bare necessities, and people have stopped treating themselves."

Kimono couture auction for CFDA

Filed under: Style for a Cause

kimono couture saksKimonos have never looked so good.

Josie Natori is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Natori Company and to mark the occasion, Natori has commissioned five designers to re-create her signature kimono. Designers Vena Cava, Erin Fetherston, Sari Gueron, Jenni Kayne and Brian Reyes have each designed a one-of-kind kimono that is being auctioned off online. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Scholarship Fund.

All of the designer's kimonos are exquisite, but I have to say that the kimono designed by Jenni Kayne is my favorite. Jenni's kimono (pictured in the center) is made of 100% silk charmeuse men's suiting material and has a very obvious Japanese silhouette. The kimono fits a size 4-6 and the bidding starts at $1,000.

To place a bid head to CharityFolks.com but act fast because bidding ends 11/27/2007!

Steals-n-Deals for the Fashionista

Deals-n-Steals for the Fashionista
Being fabulous and fashionable isn't an easy job, I mean you can't call yourself a fashionista and wear shabby gear right? Problem is, the best stuff tends to have the highest price tag (ouch). We real women know we can't live the Sex and the City life of sipping cocktails and drowning in designer shoes without consequences. It's called debt, sister friend and it ain't pretty.

So I have hunted and gathered some of the best deals on the on the web from Intermix, Active Endeavors, Saks, Ron Herman, Shop Intuition, and more -- so enjoy. Best part about shopping the sales online, is that you can avoid the shame of looking like a 'sale rat' at the boutiques, after all fashionistas are poised and would never dig for clothes.... Yeah right!

Dress of the Day: B with G Sam Squared Tunic Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

b with g sam squared tunic dressAs much as I bemoned the "tunic" last season, it seems I have done a complete 180. Well, not really, because last year, it was the tunic-with-leggings look that I didn't like. This Spring, however, I am head over heels in love with tunic dresses, like B with G's Sam Squared Mini Dress. The dress comes in army green and features a squared off neckline with a drawstring, a loose body, puffed short-sleeves, and a double-banded hemline. The material is a very comfortable Modal/Lycra. What a perfect dress to go either completely casual with a pair of flat sandals or out to lunch in wedge-heeled espadrilles!

Available at Saks Fifith Avenue for $167.

Dress of the Day: Kay Unger Silk Cocktail Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

kay unger silk satin sheathHappy Valentine's Day, Styledashistas!

Though this day, to me, is considered "Black Wednesday," I will still maintain the spirit of the so-called holiday, particularly because I'll take any excuse to wear pink or red.

If you happen to have plans to go out tonight, then Kay Unger's silk satin sheath in passionate pretty red is perfect. The dress is made from 100% silk, is fully lined, and features a grosgrain ribbon set into the waistline. The dress falls about 41" from shoulder to hem, a very ladylike knee-length. Black shoes and a shimmering silk satin clutch in black are naturals.

The dress is on sale at Saks Fifth Avenue for $200.90

Saks Fifth Avenue's new look

Filed under: Stores We Love, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

In January, Saks Fifth Avenue will reveal a new corporate logo. The decision to update the logo was part of the company's overall plans for revitalization. According to Steve Sadove, CEO of Saks, "The updated logo gives us a modern look that is sure to resonate with our customers and contribute to the resurgence of Saks Fifth Avenue." While the details of the new design are closely guarded, Saks' senior vice president, Terron Shaefer was willing to drop a few clues about what we can expect. "Graphic, bold, and sophisticated, the new branding initiative is not only a redesigned logo but a new visual language. Similar to the Burberry nova check and the Louis Vuitton LV, it will become an enduring icon, synonymous with Saks Fifth Avenue style."

A new visual language, eh? You mean like Esperanto?

Dress of the Day: Robert Rodriguez Wrap Tie Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

robert rodriguez wrap tie dressI got really excited when I saw the name of this dress because it said "wrap dress," and we all know how much I love the wrap dres (DvF, or otherwise). When I clicked through to look at it, I was immediately disappointed to find out that the dress was totally not a wrap dress. However, my disappointment changed back when I actually realized that wrap dress or not, the Cashmere Wrap Tie Dress by Robert Rodriguez is cute. The dress pulls over your head like a sweater, has a very flattering scoop neckline, a ribbed bodice, sleeves that give out to a flare, and w tie that wraps around the waist. Ah, that's where the "wrap" comes in.

The dress is available from Saks for $363.
