Lots of little girls love Barbie, and wish they could grow up to be like her. But hardly any of them take it to the lengths of Englishwoman Sarah Burge. Of course, most little girls don't have £540,000 to spend on plastic surgery, either.

Real life Barbie?

Filed under: Style in the News, Cosmetics, Skin Care

Second wave feminists, brace yourselves. In case you were looking for a sign of whether or not the battle for gender equality has been won or lost, look no further than Sarah Burge.

Sarah Burge is a 46-year old British mother of three whose claim to fame is that she is the "Real Life Barbie." (I'm not kidding -- check out her website: www.reallifebarbie.com).

The secret to her success as a life-sized plastic doll? £180,000 worth of cosmetic surgery over the past 40 years. Sarah's first procedure took place at the tender age of 7 when her mother decided to have her ears pinned back so that she could avoid excessive teasing in school. Since that time, Burge has endured 27 procedures including several face-lifts, a handful of lipo treatments, a nose job, breast reduction surgery and silicone face implants.

And what does she think? "I have invested a lot of time and put a lot of energy into my appearance so I'm excited about the new opportunities on the horizon; especially if it means revealing my surgery secrets to an even-wider audience. If I can look the way I do at my age – then anyone can. It just takes discipline and the correct medical advice. I'm as plastic as Barbie – and I love it!"

So what do you think? Was it worth it?
