Why aren't you wearing this? Pure Pashmina Wrap

Even though it's cold out, there are certain times when a sweater just won't do. When we're hitting the club with our girlfriends or attending a cocktail party with our boy du jour, we want to look a little sexy, and sometimes that requires showing a little skin. But we don't want to be cold, of course, so we like to bring along a little wrap, like this Pure Pashmina Wrap, $59.99 at The Pashmina Store.

Why aren't you wearing this? Juicy Couture Cashmere Bow and Ruffles Scarf

We absolutely love it when the weather turns just cool enough that we need to wear a light sweater. To warm it up just a little bit, our favorite trick is a warm scarf -- it takes up almost no room, unlike a coat, so if the weather warms up we can just tuck it away in our handbag, but if we get cold, wrapping it around our neck really does the trick.

We are all about the types of accessories that can turn a plain tee and jeans into a true ensemble. Bright colors, patterns, and textures can be a fabulous layer atop simple white cotton, or add some interest beneath a blazer or sweater.

Right now, woven scarves are a great accessory for women of all ages, and we absolutely love this A Peace Treaty Rishon Scarf, available at Shopbop for $110. It's just perfect, just the way it's shown.

I want that! Jay-Z's scarves

Little bro Boyd, a rap fanatic who we swear will be the next big producer, has been asking where rappers like Jay-Z get the scarves they rock.

Most rap super stars like Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, and Dipset wear scarves by Louis Vuitton and Gucci. You can also try Urban Outfitters for something affordable.

Now that we've dropped a little knowledge on you like a big sister should, save your dough stacks and go get a cashmere Gucci scarf!

Why aren't you wearing this? Portolano Petunia Stripe Cashmere Fringe Scarf

While a striped scarf immediately evokes feeling of school uniform preppiness, when you throw in some bright, unexpected colors, that preppiness gets all mixed up with something else. Punk? Retro? Something else entirely? We're not sure, but what we do know is that we like it.

This Portolano Petunia Strip Cashmere Fringe Scarf, $88 at bluefly.com, is the type of scarf that would work in a variety of ways. Worn with a simple white or neutral top, it would be a little collegiate looking, like we're getting ready to cheer on our favorite football team. And if there was a football team whose colors were hot pink and navy, it would have to be our favorite.

From The Front Row: Tie One On

Today as I was sitting at the Jill Stuart show, three things were obvious. First, Bette Midler, who was laughing and chatting directly across from me, is insanely chic and gorgeous. Second, the looks for Spring will be layered, willowy, and sheer. And third, the accessory of the season, I predict, will be the scarf.

Throughout the show, models had diaphanous material wrapped around their heads, ankles and wrists as adornments, and the clothes themselves were constructs of silk and organza tiers, often completely see-through.

That's the runway.

The real way: You'll see me with an Hermes scarf wrapped around my wrists instead of a bracelet, or tied around my neck and waist to create a shirt, or fluttering over jeans as an alternative belt. It's time to get creative and express yourself. Wrap it up!

For great ideas on how to get dozens of looks with just a simple square of material, download "Playtime With Your Scarf" from the Hermes website.

Tip of the day: Make like Jackie O.

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Oh sure scarves of all kinds – winter scarves, knit scarves, wool scarves and even warm weather scarves – have been trendy for some time. But not since Jackie O. have we seen prime little neck scarves like these.

The ladies-who-lunch neckware was updated on the recent runways of fan favs like Balenciaga and Dolce & Gabbana in popping colors and prints.

Why aren't you wearing this? Silk Dot-print Scarf

Do you have anything in your closet that you can add to an outfit to give it instant interest and a pop of color? If you don't, you should. A funky belt, an unusual hat, or a gorgeous scarf, like this Silk Dot-print Scarf will do the trick while looking effortless.

It's available at Banana Republic for $49, and what we love about it is that it's so easy to wear. Drape it casually around your neck under a jacket, as shown here, or tie it loosely to add some punch to a dress.

And, purple is, in our opinion, a highly underrated color. It's dark enough to work elegantly with blacks and grays, but it's bright enough to take an outfit from boring to brilliant. But, if you're not loving the purple, the same design is available in brown, white, and turquoise.

Why aren't you wearing this? Lightweight Gauze Scarf

It's only August, and already we're seeing Hollywood's hottest stay just a little hotter with lightweight scarves, so now is the perfect time to pick up one of your own. However, unless you are exempt from budgetary concerns (and lucky you, if that's the case), we don't see this as an accessory you should splurge on. In most parts of the country, it'll only be useful for a short time -- by the time you really need a scarf, you need a warm one, right?

Fall clothes for hot climates

Those of us who live in warm regions face the same challenge every fall -- so many hot new trends come out, but for the most part, it's just too hot to wear them! Sure, there might be a day or two in December or January during which we can wear a wool coat without sweating to death, but most of us aren't going to blow our budget buying items we'll only wear once or twice a season. But still, we want to step into fall fashion -- what to do, what to do?

We have several suggestions that will keep you looking hot but feeling comfortably cool. Those of you who live in colder climates might be able to use these suggestions early in the season, but for some of you, these will be ways to look seasonal until spring!

Get discreet relief from the heat with sporty neck scarves

Working in the garden, cooking on a hot day, or in the middle of the night, when a hot flash hits. These are times when people will go to great lengths to cool off.

Fortunately NASA, or some other rocket science agency, discovered Polyacrylamide Crystals, then some crazy designer figured out how to put them in fabric. Thus was a cooling phenomenon born: the cooling scarf.
