One of the most unfortunate styles to stick is the dreadful mullet. It's right up there with mom jeans, I believe. Unfortunately, this blasted hairstyle has managed to sneakily elude extinction because of its super-morphing abilities. That is the most dangerous aspect of the mullet and one of the main reasons why so many have fallen victim to it.

In the '70s, the look was popularized by David Bowie, who wore it totally glammed up as Ziggy Stardust, and in the '80s, the likes of MacGyver wore the cut big and loose. These days, it's popular with pretentious teen hipsters, who often wear the mullet straightened, spiky, and poorly bleached. They call it the "fashion mullet," but we all know that the addition of "fashion" in the term is doing nothing for it, don't we? These chameleon-like qualities of the hairstyle have allowed the mullet to coast freely through the decades, poisoning the heads of those who are too weak to resist it ... or those who have accidentally taken a little too much off the bangs.

Even worse, there are those who feel the need to get a little, uh, creative with the mullet. That's where the skullet, frullet, and ever-terrible Jheri Curl mullet come in. Click here and witness this horror, if you dare.

Why the short skirt and cut-off leggings pairing has spread like wildfire is a complete mystery to me. Out of the hundreds (ohh, yes... hundreds) of people I've seen sporting this vicious trend, maybe one or two have worn it well. Here are a few things that I wish I had the guts to say to the faces of these poor, unfortunate souls...

• If your legs are already somewhat short or large, just don't sport the look. It visually cuts off the length of your legs and makes you seem even shorter and your legs look thicker. Remember: Don't bother with a trend if it doesn't flatter your own shape.
  
• Either have the leggings cut off a few inches below the knee or opt for full-length opaque tights. Don't get crazy with the ones that cut off around the ankles. They look ridiculous.
• Fun Fact: Wearing these skin-tight leggings under an obscenely short skirt still means you're wearing an obscenely short skirt. Modesty does not accompany wearing a paint-thin layer of fabric under what is virtually a headband.

Take these into consideration and spare yourself the pain. Even better, how about you never wear the pairing again? There's no worse feeling than looking at photos from earlier in the year and cringing at what your ensemble. Seriously. In a few months' time, you'll thank me.
