The Naomi Campbell statue

Filed under: Events: On the Scene

Naomi Campbell is undoubtedly crazy, but the fashion industry just can't seem to get enough of her -- as is evident in the sculptures that are being made to immortalize the diva and her bad ass attitude.

Famed fashion photographer Nick Knight is using three-dimensional scanners to create the sculptures. On the project, Knight says: "Photography is changing completely, and one of the things that's doing this is 3-D scanning. You get a 360-degree view of her, and because it's all digital, that data can be used to output real objects. You can lay one image over another and create sculptures that would never have been conceived if you were chipping away at marble."

The pieces of art depicting Naomi's likeness will be released at the end of the year. We can't wait to see the final product.

(No word if there were any Blackberrys or people broken in the making of these sculptures.)

Kate Moss as art

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Oops he did it again! Sculptor Marc Quinn, the dude who designed that Britney Spears giving birth on a bearskin rug masterpiece, is at it again. This time the British designer's inspiration is the washed up lovely Kate Moss.

His past Sphinx sculpture, made in 2006, was of the model twisting herself up like human pretzel aka a yoga pose.
The first go round Kate was very active in the participation process. She was even able to part from druggie boyfriend, Pete Doherty, for five minutes to come to Quinn's studio to be measured. That was all the time she could spare so another model twisted herself up in that freaky pose. Hot.

However, in his newest Sphinx sculpture of Kate Moss will stand 10-feet tall and be crafted out of white-painted bronze. The work of art will premiere at the Beyond Limits sale of modern and contemporary sculpture at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.

So why Kate Moss? "She is a contemporary version of the Sphinx," Quinn said last year. "She's a creature who is admired and observed obsessively, but about whom we have little real knowledge."

Truly, madly, creepy: the Kate Moss sculptures

The thing about Kate Moss is that she's a cross-over beauty. Sure, she's on the cover of everything these days, but also become one of the art world's most popular muses.

For instance, Lucien Freud's painting of Moss pulled in $7.5 million when it was put up for auction at Christie's in 2005. And later this month a collection of nude photos of Moss set for auction are expected to bring in around $80,000.

But how much do you think seven sculptures of Kate Moss doing yoga poses would go for?

According to the British Telegraph, the sculptures of Kate Moss in yoga poses could bring in up to $2 million when they are sold in New York. The seven piece series was created by Marc Quinn, who says the figures represent "an image, and the way it is twisted and sculpted by our collective desire".

Twisted and sculpted by desire?

Come on Quinn, spare us the pose, would you? We all know you just wanted to sculpt Kate Moss' crotch.
