Us Weekly says green eyeliner is the new trend and we agree

We consider reading Us Weekly "getting up to date on the news" and "part of our job." However, we don't usually take our fashion cues from the gossip magazine. This week we are experiencing an odd about face, and find ourselves agreeing that green eyeliner is absolutely appealing and necessary.

During the spring and summer we were all about the vivid neon blues and teals. Now that there is a crispness to the air, we're ready to do something a little different with our makeup, but we want to keep the fun of all that color. Green eyeliner seems to be the magic bullet.

You know as well as we do that the only good way to pick a new eyeliner is to actually go to Sephora and draw on your hand with at least 18 different pencils. That said, in the gallery are a few of our favorites as a place for you to start your journey to an emerald eye.

Yu-Be

One way to find products gentle enough for sensitive skin is to shop for baby products. Japanese pharmacist Yoshikiyo Nowatari, way back in 1957, decided to turn that idea on it's side, and make a gentle, chemical free body care product that the whole family could use. The Yu-Be line is the result.

Yu-Be's glycerin-based formula is free of artificial colors, fragrances, oils and petroleum, and enriched with vitamins E and B2. It also contains camphor, which is sort of a wonder ingredient that soothes irritations, is a mild local anesthetic and is anti-microbial.

Today Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream is the top selling medicated, vitamin-enriched skincare cream in Japan, probably because you can use it for everything. And now you don't have to go to Japan to find it. Sephora offers it online, for the relatively affordable price of $24 for the 2.75 ounce jar.

Tip of the Day: Sweating is in. Thanks Alexander Wang!

Filed under: Cosmetics, Fashion Week, Style Tip of the Day, Beauty Tips

(When designers go too far - click the photo to see the raciest runway pics!)

One of the few makeup trends that really caught our eye was the "sweaty" faces at Alexander Wang.

While we often get this look by, well, sweating like pigs, Shiseido makeup artist Dick Page made the models look sexy sweaty instead of gross sweaty.

"There's a lot of heat on the cheek and bridge of the nose," describes Dick Page, Shiseido's Makeup Artistic Director. "I want them to look overheated." You don't get more right on than that on a hot, humid NY day.

Since it is not about precision, the look is surprisingly easy to achieve. Page used different colors of cream blush across the middle of each models face in lieu of skin prep (foundations, concealers, etc). Next he added his new Pink Mesa lipstick with a dab of gloss in the middle of the lip. For eyes he added "murky weight" with smudged black cream liner. Just before the models hit the stage, Page covered their faces with a squirt of water. Simple right?

So next time you come out of the gym don't think "Ew! I'm so gross!" think "Ahh! I'm so Alexander Wang!"

Frederic Fekkai Salon Glaze Clear Shine Rinse: yay or nay?

Filed under: Hair Care, Product Reviews

I'm not the biggest beauty junkie, but I do like trying out products when all the magazines are touting them as the next miracle creation. Most of the time, I'm less than impressed, but when I do find a new addition to my makeup bag or medicine cabinet, it's so worth it. (I will never regret the $17 I spent on my Shu Uemura eyelash curler.)

So I decided to give Frederic Fekkai's Salon Glaze Clear Shine Rinse ($28) a whirl after reading about it seemingly everywhere this month. The silicone-based treatment promises it "binds shine, recharges color, and adds silkiness to the hair." Kind of like a DIY glossing treatment--which was just what my blonde highlights needed after a long summer.

I want that! Lindsay Lohan in YSL

Filed under: Shoes, Get the Look

Lindsay Lohan has been seen around town paying "Tribute" to the late Yves Saint Laurent. We thinks Lindsay Lohan has the YSL Tribute's in every style and color matey! She was just spotted in a gold strappy pair and here she is again in a black peep toe version.

We're liking it. In combination with that random hat, just liking. Don't get too crazy now.

Forget mascara - Stain your lashes!

Good news for light-lashed ladies -- Tarte has come out with a 4 Day Stay Lash Stain, so you can dye your lashes at home and reap the benefits of naturally dark-looking eye fringe for more than half a week!

While this might not be a huge deal to those of us with fairly dark eyelashes to begin with -- if you're only concerned with curl and volume, this probably isn't a product for you. However, we know how frustrating it is for women who have the really light, nearly transparent lashes to have long, dark lashes one moment, and then look completely different after jumping in the pool, or if you catch them first thing in the morning before applying mascara.

Of course, you could always have your lashes professionally dyed, but this seems like a much easier option, and it's just $18 at Sephora. What do you think?

Time Balm is...well, it's da Bomb!

We told you about the amazing time Balm -- concealer and anti-wrinkle cream, you can even sleep in it! -- in the post Quick Kit for New Moms. Usually one mention is enough to get it out of our system, but we can't stop talking about this product!

Friends are used to us raving about the latest and greatest, but even they noticed that our evangelism was particularly amped up for time Balm. We keep pulling it out of our bag and forcing friends and strangers to just try it. We even started selling the friend who told us about it.

"I guess I need to go put some on," she said.

"Here, you can use mine," we replied.

The high low high point was the moment in Sephora when we interrupted someone who works there, you know, a make up professional, to say, "No, NO don't get that one, try the lightest color of time Balm, it's called Lighter than Light, it will work much better with her complexion." And then we went to get it for them.

Finally we realized that telling people one at a time was taking too long, and remembered our pulpit here at StyleList blog. So, listen up: this inexpensive ($17) little pot of makeup is magic. Great coverage. Doesn't get all creepy old lady crepey. Layers well under other stuff, like eyeshadow. Easy to use. Lasts forever -- just a dab will do you.

If you're not convinced now, there's nothing else we can do, but at least we tried to save the world from looking tired!

Mani-pedis cost even more than you thought

In a report released last week, the YWCA said that women and girls are way too worried about being beautiful. For example, more than 80 percent of the women polled said they were unhappy with their appearance. And our obsession with looking good isn't only costing us our happiness–it's costing us money.

Among the make-you-think statistics the report included was this tidbit: if women put the average $50 that monthly manicures and pedicures cost into a retirement account once a year, they'd save almost $10,000 in a decade. Shocking number, yes. (Personally, I'd rather give up my three-day-a-week Starbucks habit, though. It would save me about the same amount). I'm curious: which $50-a-month beauty fix could you go without for ten years...if the reward was ten grand?

CVS to sell prestige beauty brands

Filed under: Cosmetics, Fragrance, Skin Care

Soon, being a "Drugstore Beauty Queen" might not have quite the same meaning.

By year's end, CVS will launch its new Beauty 360 concept, which means the drugstore will be carrying prestige beauty brands that were previously only available in department or specialty stores. These higher end items will be found in stores with an assisted-sell environment staffed with trained sales associates and licensed aestheticians. There's a possibility of having onsite manicures and massages available to draw in folks waiting to pick up a prescription.
