We never thought we'd say this, but you NEED a pair of red patent heels with purple suede trim. These shoes from Pour la Victoire are so beautifully executed that we can't decide if they have a sexy bondage-thing going on, or if they're an update of the preppy look. Perhaps it's because they're a successful mix of both, but we can't stop staring. And isn't that the point of dressing up?

An awesome pair of rain boots aren't going to make you hope for rain, sure, but they definitely can make your rainy days a little more fun. Maybe it's because rain boots remind us of childish puddle hopping, or the fact that most rain boots are essentially colorful plastic and rubber so they're an inexpensive way to play with color and pattern. Whatever the reason, let the rain be an excuse to add some pop to your wardrobe!

It's raining outside as we write this, which gives our search for pretty waterproof boots a real sense of urgency. When we found this mod-inspired pair by London Fog, we knew we had a winner. We love the grey patent leather, the mini-wedge heel (so easy to walk in!) and the generous length that will keep our pant legs dry. The cute button detail doesn't hurt either.

So yes, these boots are definite attention getters - what with the candy apple red vinyl and grocery bag handles - but they also might be the perfect rain boot. As cute as rain boots can be, most of us have very little need for them once we get to wherever it is we're going - once you're past 20 jumping in puddles for the fun of it just doesn't seem to happen very often.

This week, we're looking at fall shoes with buttons, so imagine our delight when we read this column by our friends over at The Working Closet and discovered this amazing pair of boots by Frye. Hello? We died!

We love the workmanship: the detailed stitching and the delicious folds of green leather that are just meant to be shown off with this season's tights. It vaguely reminds us of a cowboy boot, but with a definite dose of downtown edge.
