The world really is coming to an end; Topshop debut in New York puched back to March

Filed under: Style in the News

Just in case you thought the world couldn't get anymore colder this month, Topshop's Sir Phillip Green went right on ahead and dropped this tid bit last week:

Topshop, the fast-fashion chain store there everyone in America has been jumping up and down for since we stumbled up its e-commerce site a couple of years, will not, and we repeat, will not be opening this fall in New York.

As to why Mr. Green felt like breaking out heart, her espouses: "America is a new territory for us and we have to get it exactly right. This store can't be a nine out of 10 when it opens; it has to be a 10 out of 10. So we're delaying the opening until around mid-March."

And there you go.

WSJ shows off its new glossy

Filed under: Style in the News

Guess who wants to flaunt their new lifestyle mag in our faces? The Wall Street Journal! But don't lose your minds just yet, darlings.

According to WWD, the glossy publication really itsn't much to write home about. In fact, most of the "exclusive" stories featured inside of the issue have already been, well, reported:

"While the paper's new magazine WSJ has an interview with Republican vice presidential nominee Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin, the story is about her workout regime and doesn't mention her as a candidate. Then there's a story on Kate Moss and Sir Philip Green - but Moss gave the real scoop about her growing business empire to last month's Vogue. And a story on the America's Cup battle between Oracle's Larry Ellison and Ernesto Bertarelli was extensively covered in Sunday's New York Times."

Meanwhile, the cover of the WSJ magazine is fairly interesting -- it features IMG's Diana Dondoe wrapped in a dress made of out of Wall Street Journal newspapers. In this clip, watch as someone tries to be excited about the new mag.

Will Leona Lewis start her own fashion line?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Is pop star Leona Lewis, aka PETA's most sexy vegetarian, about to get her own Topshop line? British rag The Sun reports that Leona and Fashion Svengali Sir Phillip Green have a dinner scheduled, as soon as he gets back from his trip to Ibiza with Kate Moss.

Since she's young and beautiful, and he's old and rich, this can mean only one thing. They're collaborating on a new clothing line. (What did you think we meant?)

The notorious Kate is Sir Phillip's current celebrity designer cash cow, but she can't stay young forever. Leona's staggering success in the U.K. and the U.S., plus her broad appeal make her a very marketable choice.

Let's see: popular and pretty celebrity, trendy clothes, inexpensive price points...we're going out on a limb and predict this will make buckets of money for Sir Phillip, and one hopes for Leona. Oh, yes, and as The Sun points out, Simon Cowell, too.

By 2010 all the girls in China will dress like Kate Moss

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Retail in China: it's all about the volume. Sir Philip Green, the owner of Topshop is all too aware of the potential profit once he gets there. Just to make sure he gets as much volume as possible, the rumor is that he asked Kate Moss to bring the lines she "designed" to China and be the face of the Topshop launch there.

Topshop: A date has been set

Filed under: Style in the News

After a few months of paying ridiculous shipping charges for adorable plaid blouses and tops covered in stars from across the pond, the UK's prized fast fashion chain Topshop will be opening its doors stateside on October 15th.

Everyone: Awesome!

Located at 478 Broadway in SoHo, the flagship will stay true to its British roots. Sir Philip Green -- owner of the company -- says that the stores will not be receiving any sort of an "American twist."
