Hozell: Leisure with dignity

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Men

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

How is your life? Do you have enough leisure in it? Are you dressed for it? Hozell Clothing can help.

Hozell is a new clothing company from Orange County, CA. Their mission is to make clothing which embodies a relaxed life of leisure. They're doing a damn good job.

Skateboard + Furniture = Skurniture

Filed under: Haute Home, Accessories, Style in the News

It's the new math. Take the world of skateboarding and mix it with the world of home furnishings and what you get is a quality piece of furniture with some style.

The people at Skurniture took the proven idea of mixing two great tastes that taste great together (see peanut butter cup) in a more functional, yet aesthetically pleasing, direction. Combining quality board decks with their love of classic furniture has created a modern, minimal piece that will fit into any living space.

Laird Hamilton's Wonderwall surf collection

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style

Surfing idol Laird Hamilton knows how to look good when he's riding a wave. He also looks pretty good on the beach. And he wants to make sure surfers all over are able to look good, too, while saving their pennies for new surf boards and Sex Wax.

Laird has come out with a line of surfing-inspired clothing that will be available at Steve & Barry's, and all pieces will sell for under $9.98. The slogan behind the clothing (and Laird's personal motto) is "We are all equal before a wave."

Quicksilver boardshorts, nothing boring about them

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Accessories, Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Swimwear and Lingerie, Men

Summertime, and the living is easy. Fish are jumping, and the waves are high. What?

Okay, maybe Porgy didn't surf and Gershwin was probably more concerned with lullabies and crap games than hanging ten, but the opening line to 'Summertime' always makes us crave the sun on our face and sand on our feet. We like to cover the parts in between with boardshorts.

Quicksilver has released their 2008 collection of boardshorts and like the lyrics above, they make us want to embrace the pending arrival of summer and the sand and the stuff.

Arbor: Eco-friendly shirts with style

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Men, Style for a Cause

Even if Arbor didn't make awesome apparel (and skate and snow boards) it would be a great company. They have a commitment to the environment that would make Al Gore blush, and that's saying something.

From their website: "Arbor's long-standing assertion is that solutions to many of today's most difficult snow, skate, and apparel design challenges exist in the natural world."

Here are some samples of their shirts for men:

Vans: Skulls and paisley

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Vintage and Retro

I must have worn right through the soles of my old black and white checkered Vans. Holy crap was I the coolest kid in my entire mind. I had those sunglasses with the little piece of pleather in the corners for maximum shade as well as the ultimate in limited visibility. I had my Ramones concert shirt, despite never having seen anyone other than Rick Springfield and REO Speedwagon in person (not together, man, that would have been a ticket!). I was cool, maybe even reckless, and everyone knew it. They saw it on my feet.

So I suffered from disillusions of grandeur. It happens.

I think Vans is about to send a whole new generation on a similar path, one filled with cool buzzes and tasty waves. The new Paisley Skull Slip-On almost demands it. The shoes come in 3 colors according to Ripe, at least that's what I think it says.

Skulls and paisley, what's not to like?
