Filed under: Style in the News

The fashion industry has suffered another great loss. While he may not be a household name to the average woman, those of you who follow clothes know that Percy Irausquin was one to watch. Sadly, the Aruban designer, based out of Amsterdam is dead at just 39 years old.

Must-haves for your lingerie drawer

As far as lingerie goes, your specific "needs" will be dependent upon your lifestyle. And we don't mean just your nightlife. If you wear a a lot of skirts and pants that show your pantylines, you need no-show panties. If your pants tend to be of the low-rise variety, you need some undies that will stay low, too. And, if you're an athlete, you need undergarments that stay in place during strenuous activity (you know, the kind of strenuous activity that requires you to keep your clothes on).

According to Divine Caroline, there are five things every woman needs to have in her lingerie drawer. Check out the gallery to see what they are, and be sure to let us know if you'd add anything to the list!

Have slips been replaced by Spanx?

How many of you own a slip? We're not talking about a slip dress -- we mean a real, actual slip that is worn under a dress, and, theoretically, not seen at all. Now, if you own one, do you wear it?

This question was asked over at Friday Style, and the answers were interesting. Not surprisingly, there seems to be a generation gap -- apparently some grandmothers were simply aghast that their little ones weren't wearing slips with their dresses this Easter, while the younger set was amazed that anyone still wore slips.

Do you still wear a slip under your dress?

Dress of the Day: Shelly Steffee Slip Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Dresses, Must Haves

shelly steffee slip dressIt really is daring to wear a slip dress during the Holidays, not because it's risque but because it's cold outside!

Shelly Steffee's Slip Dress isn't just a slip dress, it really looks and feels like nothing more than a slip! However, the bright, shiny of-the-moment purple color (it also comes in standard, black, white, a fuschia and royal blue) is so perfect for an evening Holiday gathering. Just make sure to slip into a pair of warm tights and throw on a (faux) fur stole.

The Shelly Steffee Slip Dress is available from Shopbop for $240.

Boutique Fifi Chachnil

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

So what if you can't pronounce the name -- if you like lingerie (and who doesn't) then you're going to love the goods at the Boutique Fifi Chachnil. Envision, if you will, a slightly more tasteful Bettie Paige. Make her French, and you've got the style of lingerie sold at Fifi Chachnil. My favorite design has to be the Surprise line, which comes in white with tiny black dot crepe. I'm fondest of the Gûepière "Bonheur." The built-in balconette bra and the chiffon flounce give the slip a come-hither feel without being overtly trampy in something obvious like black lace. At £260, it isn't cheap, but if you were man or a woman with a lot of money and nothing better to blow it on, I'd definitely nominate the "Bonheur." That slip has "fun" written all over it, if you get my drift.

Wiping out on the catwalk is the new black?

The most memorable thing about Karl Lagerfeld's show last week, for me, was the fact that not one but several models slipped and fell on the super-shiny runway. It's sort of hard to concentrate on the design aspects of a new line when you're cringing on the edge of your seat, anticipating the next wipeout like you're watching a nervous competitor in Olympic ice skating.

This isn't the first time a model has biffed it on the catwalk this fall. Elise Crombez went down at the Proenza Schoeler show just last month. I'm just glad I wasn't at this Lagerfeld show... I'm fairly sure I would have been the immature one, feeling horrible but doing a bad job trying to fight off the giggles every time someone went down.
