Why Aren't You Wearing This? Glass Bead Necklace

glass bead necklaceYou might think that, if you're wearing a little black dress to a party, your accessories should add a bit of color. And they certainly can -- we are all about using accessories in precisely that manner. Still, we think that black can actually offer a lot in and of itself, and this Glass Bead Necklace, $49 at Spiegel, proves it.

Why aren't you wearing this? Wide Suede Belt

wide suede beltYou know that black dress you've been wanting to add a little "oomph" to? Or what about that oversized turquoise cardigan? You know you need a belt to cinch it in, but a boring old belt simply won't do.

Why aren't you wearing this? Patched Bag

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Must Haves

We've been traveling a lot this month, so our eye is continually drawn to big bags that can easily hold all of our stuff as we slough through gracefully make our way through airport after airport. But, of course, we don't just want a big ol' canvas tote -- we only carry handbags that add to our overall look, not ones that take us down a notch. If there's more to carry than will fit in the bag, well ... isn't that what boys are for?

Anyway, this Patched Bag, available at Spiegel for $59, isn't quite as big as some we've had our eye on, but it definitely has the style factor. And, we like that it has multiple pockets on the inside, so we can stash (and easily find) our passport, gum, lip gloss, money, and whatever other smallish goodies we can't leave home without.

It also comes in red, which we're not opposed to, but for some reason we're just loving this rich brown. Wouldn't you get loads of use from it?

Model for a Day - Spiegel Reality Dressing, The Shoot!

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Clothing

This is the fourth and final part of my Model for a Day series in which I share with you my experience as a model for the Spiegel Reality Dressing photoshoot in New York City. You want behind the scenes? You've got it!

Once I was dressed, I was totally ready to go. I went on photographer Erez Sabag's set, and he immediately put me at ease. He offered to get people off the set, but I have no problems with being camera shy, so we got right down to business. Music was playing, which kept me a little looser, and even though I didn't really have a clue what I was doing, I felt like a pro. I just moved like I see the celebs move on the red carpet and I was (apparently) good to go!

Model for a Day - Spiegel Reality Dressing, Playing Dress Up

This is the third part of my Model for a Day series in which I share with you my experience as a model for the Spiegel Reality Dressing photoshoot in New York City. You want behind the scenes? You've got it!

Once hair and makeup was finished, I just had to get dressed ... which wasn't as simple as I expected. The outfits were selected for us, so it's not like I had to choose anything, but I had figured that they would have all of the items in a few different sizes. That was not exactly the case.

Why aren't you wearing this? Peep-toe Oxford Pump

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Daily Obsession, Must Haves

We're seeing a lot of heeled shooties (shoe-like boots) this season, and, truth be told, we're not falling all over ourselves for them. We know that a heavier shoe is hot and all, but some of them just seem a little awkward -- like they'd cut off the leg in a bad spot, and some just don't have much style. These, however, we want.

Take the Spiegel signature style quiz

Filed under: Style in the News, Vintage and Retro

Sometimes I think I'm a fashion schizophrenic. I like bright, bold prints and funky styles. But I also like soft, neutral, flowy looks. I like metallics and sexy black outfits, but I'm a sucker for a romantic sundress.

So, when I saw that Spiegel had a What's Your Signature Style quiz (with examples at the end for all but one style), I jumped right in (plus, who doesn't like quizzes?). It's haaard ... there were several questions for which I could have easily chosen two (or more) different answers. But, when I finished, my style was Natural Sophistication. Hmm, really?
