More of Kate Moss than you ever thought you'd see

It wasn't all that long ago that Kate Moss came to her senses and ditched her drugged-up ex-boyfriend, Pete Doherty. In fact, I'm fairly certain the world breathed a sigh of relief when we saw him dejectedly moving his things out of Moss' London apartment.

However, hell hath no wrath like a lover scorned, and now Pete is trying to get back at Kate by showing the couple's home movies on TV. The rocker is in talks with Britain's (totally lame) IT2 TV network to make a documentary about his relationship with Moss -- apparently titled "Kate & Pete: A Love Story." If that doesn't make you gag, what's worse is that producers are offering him $1 million for access to home videos he and Kate shot while they were living together.

By the sounds of it, some of it gets pretty raunchy, and thus Kate is working with lawyers to stop the tapes from going public.

Seriously, famous people: stop making sex tapes. They always, always always come back to haunt you in the end.

Fabio calls Clooney a 'diva,' chaos ensues

George Clooney would whoop Fabio's buttRemember Fabio? Just when you thought the world was finally rid of the lamest male model humankind has ever seen, it turns out he's not only still alive, but causing trouble in trendy LA restaurants.

The romance-novel reject was dining with a group of lonely housewives lady friends last night when one of the gals started taking pictures of her dining companions.

Only problem was George Clooney was sitting at the next table, and assumed the woman was taking of him, which, let's be honest, probably happens all the time. When he asked the woman to stop snapping photos, Fabio got catty and told George to "Stop being a diva."

George Clooney doesn't have to take that crap from anyone, let alone some washed-up has-been with freakishly long hair -- so he shoved Fabio, which nearly led to an all-out brawl. Fortunately a waiter was able to stop the scuffle before things got out of hand, but Fabio's manager told In Touch magazine, "George is lucky he didn't end up in the ER."

Um, somehow I think it's probably the other way around -- but what do you think?

Who would win in a fight?

Karl Lagerfeld's new MySpace

MySpace addict? Now you can befriend notoriously aloof designer Karl Lagerfeld -- at least in that fake-ish, Internet kinda way.

The fashion icon is on MySpace, in order to promote his upcoming film, Lagerfeld Confidential. You'll find video clips, photos, and a place to leave you "omg ure SUCH A GENIUS" comments -- but what's more interesting is that it appears Karl is keeping a private page, in addition to the one designated for the movie.

But is it really Karl, or just some intern crafting the style maven's online persona (or just a creepy super fan)? He's been said to have an "obsession with youth," but I still can't imagine the Karl Lagerfeld stooping so low as to communicate with the masses via MySpace bulletins. Regardless, the profile is set to private, so you'll have to friend request him to do any snooping around.

Ah, Karl -- you enigma.

Remembering our discontinued favorites

Do you ever wish that the products you once loved never went away?

I know I do. Every time I walk into the Body Shop, my heart aches a little when I look at the shampoo shelves. Nostalgia takes over, and I start to think back on the day that I discovered Body Shop's Blue Ice shampoo. The color, the smell, the tingly scalp feeling I'd get when I left it on a little too long -- oh it was so wonderful! Why did they ever discontinue it?!?

And don't even get me started on how much I miss Express's short-lived production of lingerie, which yielded the best pair of underwear I have ever worn in my life. (Confession: I still have them! Who cares if they're 8 years old?)

Alas, the list of items I have loved and lost seems endless: Clearly Canadian's sparkling raspberry drink in the clear glass bottle; aluminum-free Adidas deodorant; Concord grape New York Seltzer Water; the old Tide smell; Diet Coke with lemon (I hate the lime version)...

Now that we're on the topic of discontinued favorites, what are yours? Leave a comment, and we'll randomly pick one person to receive the discontinued item of their heart's desire! Just kidding about that last part, but let us know what you've loved and lost anyway.

Former Latvian president to auction her presidential clothes on eBay

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style

Would you buy that outfit?I'm sure even looking half-way decent in the public eye is expensive. Think about everything you've ever worn outside your house -- that late-night trip to the grocery store, an early-morning jog, or whatever -- and then imagine that you're photographed all the time. How many embarrassing shots of you would be posted all over the Internet?

Looking good is so costly, apparently, that it ate up nearly all of former Latvian president, Vaira Vike-Freiberga's salary. Like most high-profile politicians, Vike-Freiberga had to look respectable and photo-ready in front of the Queen of England, Emperor of Japan, and other important world figures at moment's notice -- so she bought some nice clothes.

Now that she's not president anymore, she's thinking about making that money back by auctioning the clothes off on eBay.

You might think that a former head of state would have a drab wardrobe full of conservative-looking power suits -- and I'm sure you'll find that if you dig through Vike-Freiberga's closet. But she wasn't entirely unfashionable, and -- on more than one occasion -- managed to make some fairly daring fashion choices, all while keeping a sense of presidential authority.

So if you're a powerful, middle-aged lady with lots of cash, this might just be your auction.

Would you spend £1000 on a piece of Princess Di fabric?

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Princess Diana dresses are like the holy grail of Lady Di memorabilia.

It's no surprise that David and Elizabeth Emanuel, the design duo who created Princess Diana's wedding dress and her iconic black dress are trying to cash in on their Di connection. The Emanuels created a limited-edition gift package to commemorate the 10th anniversary of her death.

The £1000 gift package contains a copy of the Emanuels' 250-page book of Diana dress sketches as well as a certified piece of material taken from the original bolt of silk used in Princess Diana's dress patterns.

At the risk of incurring Diana-fan wrath, I have to admit that the whole idea of selling fabric scraps strikes me as quite odd. Take away the Diana mythology, and the Emanuel gift package starts to sound a lot like religious relics from the Middle Ages. Granted, a piece of Diana fabric isn't as macabre as the femur of John the Baptist, but it's arguably just as weird.

Style Icon: Don't Hassel the Hoff

Filed under: Men, Celebrities with Style

If there's one guy that's consistently been a men's style icon for the past three decades, it's David Hasselhoff. Not only was the dude in charge on Baywatch (an enviable position, indeed), he was Michael Knight in Knight Rider for crying out loud. What man wouldn't -- to this day -- give his right arm for the chance to drive that car?

Now all of us can learn from this master of cool, as "The Hoff" is releasing an autobiography -- Don't Hassel the Hoff.

Here's the scoop from the man himself: "This book is my opportunity to print something from my heart, to tell the truth about what happened to me on the long and winding road from Baltimore to Baywatch to Broadway – and beyond. This book is about my successes and my failures, my strengths and my weaknesses. And, above all, it is about the hope contained in the Knight Rider slogan: 'One man can make a difference.'"

The book goes on sale May 15th. Pre-reserve your copy now. This man is a legend.

Will Sienna Miller be the next Bond girl?

Love her or hate her, over the past year actress Sienna Miller's star has risen from the low-level notoriety of being the on-again-off-again girlfriend of Jude Law to that of a bona fide style icon.

Oh, and her film career hasn't been too shabby either. The girl's versatile -- or at least she can pull off versatile roles. But apparently her versatility doesn't include "Bond Girl."

Dispelling the rumors that she had been tapped to be the next Bond Girl, Miller told the Daily Mirror that she couldn't possibly be a 007 beauty. Her reason was simple: "small boobs and cellulite."

Yeah, that's pretty much why I haven't been a Bond girl yet either.

Style Icon: Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was a man of wisdom and insight, but he was also a man of style. I'm not talking about his dark suits or his classy wool hat, although these do make him something of a fashion plate in his own right. Rather, I think Dr. King was a man of style in a much richer sense of the word.

You see, on a fashion blog, it's easy to forget that true style isn't just something you can buy or cultivate through consumption. No matter what we might say day to day, we know that style is much more profound.

It isn't about superficial choices like what shoes to buy or lipstick will plump up your pout -- it's about substance. The stylish life is one in which everything is coherently shaped towards a single good. In the case of Dr. King, that single good informing his every decision was justice.

Frankly, there's no better way to remember the man or honor what he created than to read his essays and speeches. Who knows -- maybe some of his style will rub off on you.

Dress yourself like Cary Grant

Filed under: Style in the News, Men, Celebrities with Style

According to a survey in the Daily Record, actor Cary Grant was recently named the smoothest celebrity of all time. Not one to argue with the sound wisdom of the masses, I thought it would be fun to take a look at the life and style of Cary Grant. I'm quite fond of the actor, and I really think that men nowadays could learn something from the unstoppable Mr. Grant.

Here's handsome Cary starring with Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief. As you can, see, he is rocking a very jaunty ascot. I'm not recommending the ascot for every guy out there, but I do think, in certain situations -- of which riding in a hot convertible with Grace Kelly is one of them -- an ascot is absolutely called for. In which case, I'd recommend the dashing green plaid Forzieri ascot.

Now I know that Hollywood men nowadays feel great deal of pressure to play around with the traditional tuxedo, and that's fine, especially if you are say, Andre 3000 or Johnny Depp. But there is a lot to be said for leaving good enough alone, and I think that Cary Grant certainly proves that point. Even if you don't think you would have an occassion to wear it more than once or twice a year, a tuxedo is a great investment. And believe it or not, you can get one for less than $200.

Here's Cary sporting a very fetching striped tie matched with a white shirt and a tweed suit. Even though the suit and the top seem a little ho-hum, the bold graphic pattern on the tie immediately suggests that the wearer is confident and smart, but most importantly doesn't take himself too seriously. Here's a more modern version of this classic tie.

Cary Grant was always a man that other men respected and women adored, and I dare say that had something to do with his impeccable style. (The dashing million dollar grin probably didn't hurt either...)

Are you an Audrey or a Kate?

A friend and I were talking about style and old movies this weekend. While bonding over our mutual annoyance regarding the Audrey Hepburn Gap commercials, we discussed the theory that most people are either an Audrey Hepburn or a Kate Hepburn. Both actresses were screen legends who were also famous for inspiring women to adopt their iconic styles. Stylewise, Katharine Hepburn is associated with bringing menswear to women, being one of the first in Hollywood to make trousers trendy. Audrey Hepburn launched a thousand little black dresses with her signature look in "Breakfast at Tiffany's."

My friend and I are both more Kate, preferring simple classic tailored looks over the trendy and pretty. In my view an Audrey is someone who always looks feminine, who goes for dainty over bold, sweet over striking. A Kate wears a shirt, an Audrey, a blouse. It's not so much about the clothes as it is the overall style, a Kate projects an air of brash confidence, an Audrey reflects a more fragile beauty. Let me know in the comments which one resonates with you.

80 years of queenly fashion

When thinking of fashion icons the current Queen Elizabeth doesn't immediately spring to mind. The original Elizabeth at least had a distinctive look with the red wigs and the pale complexion. But you can't rule a country without having a few good outfits. Hello magazine reports on the 80 gowns marking each year of the Queen's life on display at Buckingham Palace. The Queen definitely has had some fancy frocks. This is the largest exhibition to date of her evening gowns and judging by the pictures it looks like a must-see exhibit for those who love really ornate fashion. The dresses, all by royal designers such as Norman Hartnell and Hardie Amies, are heavy with details like pearls, sequins, beads, crystals and mink. As Hello not so kindly points out, they also show off the " monarch's once tiny waistline." Behold the danger of keeping your old clothes around as you age.
