Owen Wilson - moving to solar powered community in Hawaii

Filed under: Haute Home, Celebrities with Style

Owen Wilson is joining his buddy Woody Harrelson in Hawaii. And they're not just going to sip Mai Tai and surf. Oh no! They're going to conserve while they sip Mai Tais and surf!

After visiting Woody at his completely solar powered, sustainable community featuring organic farming on Maui, Owen has decided to score his own place in the development.

Following his, shall we say rocky year, Owen is definitely in need of some serenity and we hope he finds it. Really, how bad can it be? Sand, surf, coconut-scented air? Plus the smug satisfaction that only 100% green living can give you. Sounds like paradise to us!

We're looking forward to seeing the green incarnation of Owen's style. Will he go full-hemp like Woody? Or take a more activist approach like Leonardo?

Top 5 ways to green up your wardrobe

Filed under: Style for a Cause, Green Fashion

By this point we've all heard how important it is to buy eco-friendly products, and that includes fashion. But is it all just hype? Just another marketing gimmick employed by corporate America to try and get us to spend more dollars but feel less guilty about doing it? Many companies have been accused of greenwashing, and it's certainly true that buy buy buy is not the way to help our environment.

No matter what though, people will always want to dress in a way that makes them feel good about the way they look. We shouldn't have to compromise style in our quest to save the planet. Sure, we need to adjust our habits, but that doesn't mean that we'll all end up looking like a bunch of dirty hippies. Here's our list of the top 5 ways to really green up your wardrobe.

Earth Day 2008

This year, on April 22, over one hundred million people around the world will take time out for the planet. As the green movement becomes increasingly popular, and we all start to realize how important it is to reduce our environmental impact, it's no surprise the fashion industry has followed suit. "Eco-friendly" used to be synonymous with "fashion disaster," but now that designers -- from the internationally acclaimed to the up-and-coming independents -- are turning their efforts toward more sustainable attire, it's no wonder that going green is eco-chic.

What's the key to sustainable style? Is it a cute new reusable shopping tote? Vegan shoes? Both? Check out our picks for eco-chic "must-haves."

For the more laid-back fashionista, our resident expert on casual-chic shows you how to look good and stay comfortable while you go eco-friendly.

Del Forte Denim jeans are "green"

Filed under: Clothing, Style for a Cause

del forte jeans - juniper trousersSay "fashion" in the same breath as "eco-awareness" and "green" and immediately we think of tie-dye and Birkenstocks. Eco-aware and clothing just don't go together, right?

Not so. Tierra Del Forte has years of experience in denim design, but has started her own company, Del Forte Jeans because she wanted to fulfill her dream of having her "own premium denim line while protecting the environment and the farmers." Her Del Forte Denim is made from 100% organically grown cotton, which means the cotton is grown without chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Del Forte also likes recycling, so once you are "so over" your jeans, send them back to Del Forte, and they will add them Project ReJEANeration. You also get 10% off the purchase of your next pair of Del Forte jeans.

All of the jean silhouettes are totally cute. My favorite is the Juniper trouser (shown), which has a low rise and thankfully, a 20" leg opening. The jeans are available in selected stores.
