Fergie is the Rockefeller tree star

Fergie is full of holiday cheer! Yesterday, Fergie unveiled the 550 pound, 9.5 foot Swarovski Star adorned with over 25,000 Swarovski crystals that will sit atop the famed Rockefeller Center Holiday tree. Watch the above video to see the unveiling (wait for it).

You gotta wonder how much they pay celebrities just to say "Um...I'm famous. Photograph me by this." Maybe they didn't pay her for her humps this time, though; it was for charity.

Limited edition Swarovski trunks for those who want to be hated

Samsonite plus SwarovskiEvery once in a while, a product so outrageously extravagant and loud comes out that it boggles the mind that anyone would purchase it, braving the fiery death glares that they will surely face from strangers. A team-up between Samsonite and Swarovski have come up with such a product... Behold, the Samsonite Black Label trunk, covered in crystals and -- get this -- only 30 are in existence. Now, this thing is massive, so there's no way to subtly flash it like it's darling diamond earrings hiding under your hair until you pull it up. This thing is immediately and absolutely in-your-face and begging to be kicked over and smashed in a jealous rampage.

Dior launches luxury $5,000 mobile phone

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News

Joining the Chanel fishing rod, and the diamond-studded digital camera on the list of ridiculously overpriced luxury goods that do nothing special at all, Dior has unveiled its $5,000 MyDior cellphone. Dior's luxury phone boasts a touch screen, camera, and a Swarovski crystal face plate. Apparently, the phone is targeted specifically for the Russian and Chinese markets (where people throw away their hard-earned money?).

Dior is teaming up with French tech firm ModeLabs Group to produce the couture handset, of which they expect to sell 10,000. Wow -- that's an easy $50M. Aside from Swarovski face plate -- which we agree is a nice touch -- the My Dior phone only offers one other unique feature: a tiny micro-phone that allows you to leave the Swarovski-studded handset in your pocket. We have no idea why you'd want to leave a $5,000 designer phone in your purse/pocket. Think we'll stick with the technically superior and less expensive status symbol -- the iPhone.

Why aren't you wearing this? Cosmic Cuff

There is nothing wrong with an accessory that's subtle and delicate -- there are plenty of times when that's exactly what an outfit needs. However, we find more occasions on which we'd prefer to wear a piece that brings a little more to the table -- the type of piece that can make a stranger take a second look.

Designer of the year nominees are out!

Filed under: Style in the News

The Council of Fashion Designers of America have announced their nominees for designer of the year! For menswear designer of the year Michael Bastian, Thom Browne, and Tom Ford are nominated. Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs, and Michael Kors are all up for the accessory category. And for the biggie, the womenswear category, we have Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough for Proenza Schouler, and Marc Jacobs.

I'll admit that I was totally shocked to see Marc Jacobs on the list. Just to put it simply, nobody really liked his Spring/Summer '08 collection. Check out what I had to say about Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton here. I really felt like he lost his magic touch this year. His mojo, if you will, is gone. But apparently the CFDA disagrees, and well, we all know who has more influence in the fashion industry. Me, obviously.

And I'll tell you who I'd like to see win -- Francisco Costa. He's an Ashley Olsen fave and I love him too. This year he kept the lines and designs of his clothing really simple and the result was gorgeous. His collection was fantastic. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) Francisco just won last year, so I doubt that they'll give the big award to him again.

Also up for grabs is the Swarovski Award. This is given to a designer who shows a lot of promise. It's basically a scholarship paid out in the form of cash and Swarovski crystals. For womenswear we have Kate and Laura Mulleavy for Rodarte, Thakoon Panichgul, and Alexander Wang and in the menswear category Patrik Ervell, Tim Hamilton, and Scott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders are duking it out.

Browse through the gallery to see the designers' work and tell me who you think should win in each category!

Jewelry isn't enough for Paris Hilton and Britney Spears -- They need bling for their cars too

As if wearing millions of dollars worth of jewelry every day weren't enough already, celebrities are now starting to put bling on their cars.

A car jewelry (yes, you heard that right, I said car jewelry) company, License2Bling, has started manufacturing designs and license plate frames with Swarovski crystals embedded. In case you're worried about someone stealing your bling, you can even get special security screws to keep everything in place.

I think you'll be surprised at just how many stars own these products!

  • The Hilton sisters
  • Britney Spears
  • Kim Kardashian
  • Mya
  • Nicole Richie
  • Eva Longoria
  • Alicia Keyes
  • Jessica Simpson
  • Hilary Duff
  • Sanda Bullock
  • Jessica Alba
  • Jessica Biel
  • Lindsay Lohan
  • Kimberly Stewart
  • Scott Storch

Paris Hilton was the obvious one on the list. I mean, when she's not out committing crimes against fashion humanity like in the picture above, she's can be found buying bling for herself, her dog, her ferret, her plane, her house, whatever. Her pets probably all own more diamonds than I do. But, is anyone else a little shocked to see Sandra Bullock on the list? She seems so down to Earth. I really would never have pegged her as a car bling kind of girl.

For you patriotic boys and girls you can get an American flag with red, white and blue crystals. My grandma would love that. There's also a pink crystal breast cancer ribbon and even a Christian fish. Anyways, check out some of the License2Bling's products and tell me what you think! Would you ever put something like this on your car?

A Valentines gift for that nerdy someone

There's a fine line between a cute novelty gift and an expensive Valentine's blunder. It's up to each clueless guy to choose an appropriate gift for his special lady friend. So, when it comes to items like Swarovski's USB jewelry, I'd say that about 99.9% of us should steer clear of weird Valentine's gifts like this. A go-to like chocolate or flowers would go over way better.

But for that geeky girlfriend who loves cute computer accessories, this might just hit the nail on the head. For $180, you can get her a 1GB flash drive 'disguised' as a heart pendant. This little bundle of polished stainless steel and silver shaded crystal will let her store her data in style.

I don't know: are there really any women out there who would want one of these things?

One gig of glitter from Philips and Swarovski

philips swarovski active crystals
It's not always easy to find things that are both functional and fashionable. Sure, there are lots of things functional things out there that try to be fashionable, but in the end, they end up looking stupid.

Not so with the USB flash drives from Active Crystals, a line of crystal products from the partnership between Swarvoski (the fashion) and Philips (the function). The USB flash drives come in four different models, two of which look like locks that can be attached to a keychain, and two of which, my favorites, are shaped like hearts and are worn around the neck on a silver cord. All of them feature 1 gig of storage and built-in password protection.

The one shown is called Heart Beat, with half the pendant in silver and the other half encrusted with Swarovski crystals. The other heart pendant is similar, except that the crystal half looks like a giant crystal rather than studded with small ones.

No such thing as a "Blood Crystal"

swarovski chic blue ringWith all of the hullaballoo over diamonds these days (did anyone else notice the veritable dull dearth of sparklicious bling at the Oscars this year?), what are we Styledashistas to do when we need to get a sparkle-fix?

Forget about those silly shiny pieces of stressed out carbon! I say go for crystal! Some may say that adding crystals to any- and every- little thing out there is over and done, and though I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that statement, I wouldn't agree completely with it. Yes, adding tiny pink crystals to your cel phone in the shape of a French kitty is a little passe, but crystals are still an amazing way to accessorize. Take for instance, the entire line of Spring and Summer jewelry from Swarovski. I am wild about almost every single piece, and since big, fat cocktail rings are quite the trend for this season and the next, I may be investing very shortly in the Chic Blue Ring, a rhodium-plated ring with blue, grey and yellow coloured crystals. If this ring were made of diamonds, it would cost thousands of dollars more, not to mention the human cost. From Swarovski, this ring is $210.
