In the Thick of it – Sweater Weather
Here's a cute one from AT Loft that has just enough shaping through the bust to give you the nice appearance of a waist (even if yours has expanded for winter), yet is roomy enough to add a another layer beneath for warmth (silk long johns are a great option for less encumbered sweater dressing if you get really cold).

Because wool and cashmere are always going to be warmer than acrylic, look for blends to avoid the big price tag (and the itch). This is a great deep v-necked cropped option from J Crew that will work with a bigger bust, and either a short or long waist.

Now is the perfect time to stock up on more expensive cashmere items, as retailers are eager to get rid of winter stock. Check out these great crew necked 'tee' sweaters that, if you're still cold, are thin enough that they can be layered -- even with other sweaters!

Like this cute sweater from J Crew, for instance.

Or this adorable option -- also from J Crew.

Layering sweaters of different weights is a great way to add warmth without necessarily bulking up. A sweater jacket or wrap will work well when paired with something more form-fitting -- both make your torso look narrower underneath its roomier cut. Check out this cute striped option from the Gap.

Try and stick to layers that don't cling in the wrong places. Remember that, for the best layering effect, your look should skirt your silhouette, not hug it -- like this option from the Gap.

But who says sweaters should only be used as block colored layering piece? Here's a great little piece from Anthropologie that functions as a jacket. Pair it with a v-neck fine gauge sweater (especially of contrasting color) for extra warmth, lots of style and sculpting.

And, while I normally discourage turtlenecks, I do make exceptions for those with shape or some design detail -- like this one from Anthropologie.

Nothing like some good ribbing to smooth out a midsection, and check out the cool sleeve detail! Macy's has this in black or teal.

So don't just default to your shapeless ski sweater or turtleneck collection in these cold times – you can be warm and still look like you have a shape!

"Oh my god, that girl must be freezing."
In some parts of the country, it's turning pleasantly cool, while in other areas, it's just flat out freezing. And while the cold weather might not bode well for those killer peep toe stilettos (unless you're very, very brave and have an uncanny knack for balancing on icy sidewalks), there is a warm, fuzzy lining -- you get to wear sweaters!

I am torn about the Runway Cashmere Tunic Dress by Michael Kors. The cable-knit sweater dress looks absolutely wonderfully warm and cozy, and yet because it's such a thick knit cashmere with a heavy, loose turtleneck, I am afraid that I won't get much wear out of it before I start buying up Spring clothes and (as usual) trying to wear them too early.

Nothing is more luxurious than a cashmere sweater, but it might surprise you to know that
Henri Bendel's private-label sweater collection has been a fashionable staple for New York women over the past 25 years. Classic twin sets, crewnecks and sleeveless shells in cashmere and wool, Henri Bendel's label offered dependable, well-constructed sweaters for mature women.
Yay! It's finally sweater weather! OK, actually, in Los Angeles, it's sweater weather after the sun goes down, but still! I've been waiting for the mercury to drop so that I wouldn't look like a fool wearing this season's big, thick, chunky, funky sweaters. This fall, sweaters, whether they are turtlenecks, V-necks or tunics, are all going big. The weave is big, the shape is voluminous, and the lengths are long. Today, we're going for seven cardigans, which won't mess up your hair when you take them on and off; because really now, I still can't put one on until after6 PM or so.
Monday -- Victoria's Secret might be known for the sexy lingerie, but it does have apparel, including this
Tuesday -- You can't go through sweater season without a chunky cable-knit sweater, and this
Wednesday -- You might not want all that volume around the body, but this
Thursday -- Perfect for showing off that wide belt you bought, this 40 percent cashmere, 30 percent alpaca, 30 percent wool
Friday -- It's your Friday play-date, and yes, a big roomy cardigan sweater can still be dressed up. I love the draped, yet fine look of this
Saturday -- It's college game day, perfect for preppie rugby-ish stripes, right? Big loud stripes alternating red and white (Ohio State!) are always fun, but if they're a little bit too much, this
