ID Peace For The World

Filed under: Stores We Love, Product Reviews, Daily Obsession, Green Fashion, Must Haves

T shirtID Peace's designs are meant to stimulate your eyes, sure. But they're also meant to bring your attention to deeper issues like world peace and the environment. They're geared toward young adults, which is fitting since, after all, the younger American generation just recently represented the greatest voting turnout since Vietnam (learn it people!). And if we could make "change" happen once, why couldn't we take our other favorite causes to that level too?

I want that! H & M printed scarf

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

As to not steal attention from the stars of the show, Diane Kruger laid low at the L.A. premiere of The X-Files: I Want to Believe on July 23 at the Grauman Chinese Theatre. Her casual attire consisted of an easy American Apparel tee and Acne jeans pairing which she lightly accessorized with an adorable printed scarf, cool white watch, and studded bag. The perfect low key look for a night at the movies.

Dr. House turns model

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

Sexy curmudgeon Hugh Laurie is best known to American audiences as Dr. House, the feisty doctor with the bad bedside manner and the unerring eye. Now fans of house can get a special gray T-shirt with the House-ism "Everybody Lies." The shirt sells for $19.95 and comes in men's and women's sizes. All proceeds go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The House cast including Hugh Laurie, Lisa Edelstein, Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps took part in the launch party on April 23 at the 20th Century Fox lot where Hugh Laurie took a turn as model, showing off the shirt.

Social responsibility all the way from Me to We

Filed under: Clothing, Style for a Cause

me to we lena zip hoodieMe to We: [Responsible Style] is a new brand dedicated to making clothes in a socially responsible way. That means co-founder Oliver Madison along with advisors Craig and Marc Kielburger have put together a clothing line that is domestically produced, sweatshop-free and made using certified organic cotton. It doesn't end with production, though. Fifty percent of the profit goes to Free The Children, an charitable organization that supports development projects in rural and impoverished areas around the world.

The line is like a limited collection of American Apparel products, with t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, and the like. The fact that Me to We's pieces are so basic make it that much easier to be a socially responsible consumer. Everyone needs t-shirts, right? With all those options out there, why not buy the one that has a positive impact on the world?

Self-love, high-fashion

Is self-love a new fashion trend? We've got Paris Hilton trotting around town in an "I'm Paris Hilton and I can do whatever I want" shirt and now a Dolce and Gabbana "I Love Myself" shirt (which sells for $95) has me wondering if proclaiming one's love of self is a new fashion look.

It's not exactly a new idea. One Christmas back when I was a teen, my father bought me a sweatshirt that said "all this and brains too." I was mortified and never wore it except to rake leaves in the back yard. I'm just not the kind of person who is comfortable with shouting self-congratulatory statements across my chest. But maybe I missed out. These days I see plenty of girls with "princess" or "diva" or "I'm worth it" spelled out in crystals on T-shirts. Still, "I love me" shirts seem to be taking it to a whole new level. But maybe a little healthy self-esteem is good for the soul. If your self-love has a budget, you can always go Cafe Press and buy an I heart myself shirt for under $20.

Kindred makes cool tee-shirts for men

kindred medusa t-shirtI love all the tee-shirts that are out there for men that feature intricate, sometimes tattoo-like artwork, and interesting, off-center placement. However, tee-shirt designers must have gotten smart because a lot of them are now charging upwards of $200 for a single tee-shirt! I mean, I certainly don't mind spending that much on a sweater, or even a button-down shirt, but a tee-shirt? Come on.

Kindred is a tee-shirt company that features designs that are just as cool, but thankfully, don't feel the need to empty your wallet. Their tee-shirts range in price from $16 for a fairly simple design to a whopping (!) $26.95 for something like the Medusa Oblongata, pictured. And thankfully, this design is scheduled to print in January 2007!
