Loiter(ing) allowed - Shirts that stand out

We haven't discussed t-shirts in some time, and that's not because we're over them, but rather we thought we had covered them all. We stand corrected. In fact you might say we "loiter" corrected, especially if you like puns and society doesn't generally find you very funny.

Naked models + amazing body paint = Bullets 4 Peace

Models roaring down the runway, real live furry animals, genitalia everywhere -- ok, so maybe we're exaggerating just a tad, but the Bullet 4 Peace show truly was unconventionally awesome!

Obama or McCain - Support your candidate with Hidalgo name rings

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Style for a Cause

We've always been intrigued by Hidalgo stackable rings, even if they are a trifle ornate to wear with our daily blogging attire of sweats and bunny slippers. But their latest design might be the final blow to our stubborn resistance: Obama and McCain name rings.

And the debate winner is...the genius who made "That One" t-shirts

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Style for a Cause

Many people watching the debate last night were surprised to see John McCain jerk at thumb at Obama and refer to his democratic rival as "That One". Post-debate the analysts are still trying to figure out if McCain meant it as a pejorative, if he forgot Obama's name and awkwardly tried to cover a senior moment, or if it was simply another of the (many) wince-worthy jokes that McCain scattered through his performance.

Skin of the City tees keep the city near your heart

Skin of the CityWe're always on the look-out for shirts that shake things up and make this casual wear something more than just sloppy. These Skin of the City t-shirts remind us of the beauty of a simple all-over design. Our favorites are these prints of ghostly, bare trees. Reminiscent of Northern winters or the circulatory system, this shirt adds interesting detail to an otherwise plain shirt.

We can see it now: This shirt, plus a pair of dark wash jeans or black trousers and a well-structured, neutral-colored jacket on top, preferably military-inspired cutting. The other shirt designs, flattened images of buildings and brick walls stretched across your torso, are pretty cool, but the stunning impact of so many strong little lines do the trick for us.

This isn't the first time we've ooh'd and ahh'd over shirts. Check out these previous StyleList posts about everyone's favorite go-to item: Threadless shirts, geek tees, opinionated tops.

T-Shirts for Nerds and the people that IM them

Ah, nerds. We They've come a long way since Revenge of the Nerds- the first one (not parts 2-14 where each consecutive sequel brought greater gains in the fight for nerd rights, but also a never-ending supply of stereotypes and frontal nudity). One need look no further than TV's own "Big Bang Theory" to see how nerds have been acclimated into society. Sociology, people.

NerdyShirts is an online shirt designer and retailer that was made by nerds for nerds, but that won't stop them selling stuff to the rest of you. After all, they are capitalists.

ChoiceShirts: Wear what you think

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Men, Kids and Babies

Whit Honea is a slacker, a borderline degenerate, and a daydream believer. He's also our resident expert on casual chic. If it's comfortable, and not heinous, he's all over it. He's quite charming, really.

ChoiceShirts is about two things: choice and shirts. We deduced that tidbit before we ever clicked on their website. Yes, we're that good.

Browsing through the many shirts in their online store we created a small selection of the tees that jumped out at us. They aren't necessarily something we'd wear, but we'd definitely gift them:

Barking Irons: History on t-shirts

Barking Irons apparel label is just plain cool. They make t-shirts with an appreciation of history and art that is seldom found in the world of fashion. They are smart, literate and enjoy a good beer. Where we come from that's called a sweet trifecta.

From the website: The designers at Barking Irons have taken their inspirations from writers such as Walt Whitman and Stephen Crane, Civil War era military uniforms, old American baseball outfits, old New York firemen, and turn-of-the-century fashions. The line has also paid homage to classic American tales such as the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Moby Dick.

Cream T-shirts: sweet and fresh

A couple of years ago, Jessica Simpson had a reality show on MTV and had successfully managed to win the hearts of several impressionable young adults, which led the Texas singer to create a edible beauty line, you know, to capitalize.

Unfortunately, though, the products didn't taste as good as was advertised and caused us to have a really bad stomach ache after our trip from Sephora.

Cream of the Crop
, New York's new cool tee label, promises its scented shirts will have you looking adorable and smelling sweet these last few days of summer, and unlike Jessica and her bath sprinkles, they're actually telling the truth.

The saccharine t-shirts come emblazoned with a series of adorable graphics and will freshen up the air in scents like vanilla, strawberry, raspberry, just to name a few. So, if you're into smelling like fresh fruit or sweet treats, and who isn't, Cream of the Crop is a treat you can't say no to.

Junk Food Clothing makes t-shirts for everyone, man, woman and child, but they aren't for everyone. They are for the true connoisseur of t-shirt art. Their shirts are soft and weathered, creating a comfortable feel with a retro aesthetic. They combine eras of pop culture and original design with a result that is equal parts geek-chick and contemporary hipness.

Today, in the spirit of school (hey, school spirit!) we're looking at the prints for kids:

Not much is bigger in the way of popular culture right now than superheroes, which makes geeks chic and true-believers the toast of the party (which we're finally invited to). It's time for us to blow the dust off our stash of comic books, take a deep breath and shout to the world, "I told you so!" After that it's best to drop it.

As goes popular culture, so to the world of t-shirts. While the superhero has been something of a mainstay over the years, the demand for cool shirts featuring the stars of comic and screen is now amazing (also: mighty, incredible, fantastic, spectacular, and uncanny).

Science geeks like clothing too

Science!Do you know what else science geeks like? Babe machines.

Amorphia Apparel is a t-shirt line by designer Jeremy Kalgreen. They may not be as adorable as items from Threadless, but what these lack in cuteness, they make up with geeky hilarity. Consider what kind of person would buy funny clothing about Nietzsche and Dr. Henry Kissinger. There we go.
