Lancôme is bringing back its genius Pout-à-Porter series for spring 2010!

The collection -- for which the makeup giant brilliantly teams up with fashion designers to create limited edition lipsticks -- first debuts on the runway, then promptly sells out at cosmetic counters.

Past collaborations include Thakoon, Peter Som, Benhaz Sarafpour and Proenza Schouler. (You may remember a tube of "Proenza Pink" selling on eBay for $122.50!).

Will Michelle Obama Attend the CFDA Awards? And if so, Who Will She Wear?

Michelle Obama has a pretty good track record when it comes to choosing up-and-coming fashion designers. In fact, by the looks of this year's CFDA nominees, we're thinking Mrs. O is a designer's lucky charm.

And since the CFDA awards ceremony -- where rising stars in fashion are recognized -- is fast approaching (Monday, June 15), here's the big question in fashion circles: Will Mrs. Obama drop in on one of the fashion industry's biggest nights? The bigger question: If so, who will she wear?

She's worn Thakoon looks to support her husband at the Democratic National Convention (above left) and to travel to Europe. Thakoon is up for the Swarovski Award for womenswear.

She's worn Narciso Rodriguez designs for election night (above middle), to the We Are One Concert, and to meet with Carla Bruni in France. Rodriguez is up for the CFDA womenswear designer of the year.

She's worn Jason Wu creations to meet the Queen of England, to travel to London and to the Inaugural Ball (above right). Wu is also up for the Swarovski Award for womenswear.

Maria Cornejo Goes to Washington

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Style in the News, Interviews

On Wednesday morning, Michelle Obama's dream team of go-to designers including Maria Cornejo, Thakoon Panichgul, Narciso Rodriguez, and Jason Wu headed down to Washington D.C. to lobby for anti-piracy laws to be implemented for the fashion industry. Following the day-long excursion, Cornejo, whose own label, Zero Maria Cornejo, has been a steady favorite of the First Lady's, got in touch to tell us how it went. Below, in her own words.

We went down on Wednesday morning at 7:30 am. It was like a school field trip! No Air Force One for us, we flew American and Delta. We were there with Steven Kolb, President of the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), and walked for miles in the halls, going from office to office talking to representatives on Capitol Hill. We probably saw about six or seven senators and afterward they had a cocktail party for us where we met the new generation of senators.

We explained the effect piracy was having on our business. When people start copying your designs, you are handing them the keys to your brain. It's bad for business, and for the industry as a whole. The only place where copying isn't illegal is in China and the United States. If someone copies my garment in France, I can sue them, but it's not discouraged here. If you are making a blatant copy, why not just give us the job? Give us the budget and we'll design something for you. I'm all for affordable fashion. My daughter shops at Target -- she bought a Thakoon skirt there and I'm into H&M. Both stores do great collaborations.

After the jump, Maria on Michelle Obama, the chicness of the women on Capitol Hill, and a photo of the boys...

Breaking: Thakoon for Target!

Just two weeks after Target dropped Richard Chai's Go International line in its stores, rumors began circulating on the net that the next high fashion darling to whip up cheap frocks for the mass retailer would be Alexander McQueen.

We screamed, but just before we began to take the idea seriously another designer has announced his new found friendship with Target.

Glamour reports that Thakoon has been tapped to bring his nerdy-cool aesthetic to Target shoppers this fall. Details surrounding the collection are unknown, but we're not really sure if we're excited about this yet, so whatever. While we've always been a fan of his pieces, we've always felt that they appealed to a more mature client.

Although we really, really love our moms, we're not trying look like them.
