Flatter Your Figure - Trendy Tops to Flatter Turkey-Stuffed Tummies

sweaterYou know what next Thursday is -- Turkey Day! And, you know what that means. Even if you normally have a fabulously flat tummy, you're likely to end up with a bit of a belly by the time the bird is taken off the table. And, if you have a belly to start with, well -- you know your best bet is to wear something that gives you room to breathe.

How hot is Ho Chi Minh City right now?

Who has not been in Vietnam lately? Last week, world leaders (including Germany's Angela Merkel, Australia's John Howard, Russia's Vladimir Putin and the United States' very own George Bush) showed up for an economic summit in Ho Chi Minh City.

Now it turns out that while the rest of us were eating turkey and watching football back in Peoria or Scranton (or wherever it is our parents live), Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were spending Thanksgiving in Vietnam.

So, is Ho Chi Minh City the 21st century's St. Tropez? Sure, maybe there's no Brigitte Bardot, but great clothes, great food and cool mopeds go a long way ...

Dress your man for turkey day

Filed under: Holiday Style, Clothing, Men

Dressing for Thanksgiving can be a challenge. Are you supposed to dress up or are you supposed to be casual? But how casual is too casual? And how dressed up is too dressed up? I suppose I can't answer any of these questions definitively, but if there are any men out there who are still wondering what to wear when turkey day rolls around, I can offer a couple of suggestions:

For pants, I would suggest a pair of grey or khaki trousers. Not nearly as formal as suit pants, nice trousers give the impression that you made an effort to dress up for the day. The appearance of extra effort could win you bonus points with your spouse or in-laws. (Not as many points as you would get for doing ALL of the dishes, mind you.) Khakis and trousers, after all, can be just as comfortable as jeans. Just make sure your pants aren't too tight through the waist -- we all know what happens when you eat too much pumpkin pie.

For a top, I would recommend either a light crewneck or v-neck sweater with a collared shirt. Remember that layers are always helpful in holiday situations. Should your great aunt keep her house too warm or should tensions with your family members heat up unexpectedly, you'll still have a way of cooling off. If you don't live where it is cold, a nice looking polo shirt or well-tailored tee would be an acceptable alternative to the shirt/sweater combination.

The bottom line is that no matter what you end up wearing, just try to make your Thanksgiving Day outfit not look like what you wear every other day of the year. If that seems like too much pressure, remember that this is only for one day and you can go back to the jeans and t-shirts on Friday.
