Best and worst back-to-school bags

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Whatever Style, Kids and Babies

With Fall just around the corner, it's time for the kids and the university students to get ready to go back to school. I remember when I was in middle school, buying a new backpack was always an ordeal because I desperately needed something cool and unique but didn't want to step so way out of bounds that I got teased excessively.

TokiDoki for LeSportsac: I had a TokiDoki bag for a while, until I realized that it was too cute for me. The loud, bright, cartoony patterns didn't fit in with the rest of my surly wardrobe, so I had to chuck it. However, I understand that the Kidrobot/designer toys look is still very popular these days and this TokiDoki stuff is still in high demand. The line offers some backpacks, which are naturally suitable for back-to-school time, but the messenger bags may also work. These bags are a little more expensive than the normal high-schoolers' gear, costing about six times that amount, but it's another symbol of status, isn't it? If you -- or your kid -- are into that sort of thing, go for TokiDoki.

Tokidoki necklaces make my inner 8-year-old squeal

tokidoki necklaceWe already know how much of a sucker I am for small, cute, girlish things that often come from the minds of the Japanese, and many of which involve a pink and white kitty with no mouth. However, I am beginning to fall harder in love with Tokidoki -- a similarly "cute" Japanese look, but from an Italian designer. While I have yet to convince myself that LeSportsac is cool enough now with Tokidoki printed all over it (I mean really, it's still LeSportsac), no persuasion has to be done for the new charm necklaces. My favorite is the Momobella (shown), but I even wouldn't mind the grim reaper. Yes, it is the grim reaper, but cute!

Necklaces are all $36.

If you are a fan of Hello Kitty and of shimmery pink makeup you are going to love the new Tokidoki line from Smashbox. Can you handle the cute? This stuff is absolutely precious, from the star-emblazoned makeup mirror to the shiny pink lipglosses and super sparkly pastel eyeshadows. It gives me a bit of a sweetness toothache just looking at it. You can buy the whole collection for $178 or individual components start at $18.

Totally adorable Tokidoki Le Sportsacs

tokidoki for le sportsacI'm definitely shy about my utter fascination with Hello Kitty, but I think I might have found something to replace my animated (but silent) feline friend: tokidoki.

If you're not familiar with tokidoki, it might sound like some cute Japanese animated character, especially since I'm talking about it in the context of Sanrio's Hello Kitty, but tokidoki is actually the creation of Italian designer Simon Legno. tokidoki is not a single figure, but is in fact, an entire world of adorable round-eyed characters.

Le Sportsac recently partnered with tokidoki and is offering a collection of bags and accessories for Fall 2006. The new line has prints and colors created exclusively for LeSportsac. My sister just bought a baby bag which is adorable because well, it's a baby bag, but I think I might get the same bag to carry my laptop!
