If you visit the beaches of St. Tropez this summer expecting to find a magical place where women feel totally comfortable baring their breasts in public,
you might be disappointed. According to an article in the
UK Telegraph, the glorious tradition of
Brigitte Bardot is on the decline. Apparently, bare flesh isn't as fashionable in the south of France as has been in the last few decades -- and no one's quite sure why.
When we think of the
Riviera, of course we think of picturesque resort communities, but only after we envision beaches teeming with
topless movie stars. Take away the topless women -- and it's just another über-expensive place to get a sunburn. Some are chalking it up to cancer concerns, others blame a rising wave of prudish conservatism. We know that in the US, nudist colonies are
having trouble attracting members from the younger generations.
We say:
if there's anything that never goes out of fashion, it's topless ladies.
