Beth Ditto's Plus-Size Clothing Line for Evans Makes a Fashion Spalsh

Filed under: Style in the News

Kate Moss' slinky line for Topshop, Beth Ditto's plus-size line for Evans – what's the difference among fashion friends?

Not much gauging from the love-fest going on at the party for Ditto's collection, which drops this Thursday (July 9) at Evans, Topshop's plus-size sister store (which, delivers to the US, so yay!).

Moss, Ditto, their boss Sir Philip Greene and a host of skinny-mini fashion types were seen generating more excitement about double-digit sizes than I can remember in recent history. And I'm being literal here: Evans' definition of plus-size starts at size 14, which is actually a US 10, not exactly plus-size in my book.

But I'm not here to split hairs. It was actually just nice to see plus-size clothing not pitted in the center of some controversy, but rather cause for a party.

On a beauty note, check out Ditto's makeup: WOW! Does anyone else smell potential for a MAC contract? I know the company sends her makeup artist stuff for tours and appearances, but I've got a sixth sense about these things.

Topshop gets in the spirit for Fourth of July! Photo: Topshop.com

Topshop may be a UK-based company, but since the trendy retailer landed stateside, we've seen the addition of Patriotic pieces to counter the usual Union Jack motif.

So, in case you haven't had a chance to add stars and stripes to your Fourth of July wardrobe, throw on this red and white striped origami dress ($70) and/or carry an American flag heart, cross-body bag ($50).

With prices well below $100, you'll have extra cash to blow on a coordinating Rocket Pop!

Topshop onstage! Florence Welch performs at the Glastonbury Festival in a custom Topshop one-piece. Photo: Hayley Madden/Redferns

Runway designers collaborating with music stars isn't new. Britney was dressed by DSquared for her "Circus" tour and sadly, Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy was busy working on costumes for Michael Jackson's upcoming world tour before the king of pop's untimely death. Now Topshop?

This is one of the few times we have heard of a large retailer designing for music performers, but if anybody could break into the business of dressing bands, it'd be Topshop with its pulse on "fast fashion."

For Florence Welch of Florence and The Machine's Glastonbury Festival performance last weekend (June 27), Topshop outfitted the indie pop darling in a black one-piece with a fitted bodice and long fringe flowing from the arms that was anchored at the sleeve by a row of roses. The look had plenty of thigh exposure with the bottom cut more like a bathing suit, but it is the stage after all. If you've got it, flaunt it!

Simon Cowell and Topshop Owner to Team Up

Two of the most successful men in Britain have decided to join forces to create an entertainment company to rival the media and marketing giant that is Disney, reports Daily Mail.

Simon Cowell, known for his role on "American Idol" and a predilection for extra-tight shirts, and Sir Philip Green, who owns a number of the U.K.'s largest retailers (including Topshop), have been buddies for close to a decade but only now decided to become business partners. The plan, according to WWD, is to market shows across the U.S. and Europe, then do heavy merchandising to capitalize on the hit shows.

Green, who has never worked in showbusiness before, will keep his retail business separate from the joint venture (good thing -- the last thing we need in the dressing room is to think of Simon Cowell and his scathing remarks!). The billionaire will focus on finances, while Cowell, whose contracts are up at Sony and American Idol, will use his experience in the entertainment industry to oversee production.

Kate Moss Hams it up for Virgin Atlantic's 25th Anniversary

Talk about a model airplane! Kate Moss gets uncharacteristically animated with Virgin Atlantic founder Sir Richard Branson. Photo: Getty Images

Ummm, do y'all remember when Kate Moss was a publicity-shy, notoriously aloof model who rarely showed up at promotional events, let alone put herself at the center of them, in costume with an ear-to-ear grin to match?

Well, look how times have changed. To mark Virgin Atlantic's 25th birthday, Moss rocked up to the wing of a Virgin jumbo jet, dressed in a red romper and Yves Saint Laurent Tribute heels -- a successful imitation of the pin-up girls who grace VA's aircrafts -- and leaped into Sir Richard Branson's arms before an adoring crowd. (Thank goodness he caught her. Those are some serious heels.)

But wait! The cheese continued, as Branson (in his captain-for-a-day outfit) posed with Moss and his kids, the four smiling for the cameras, Branson waving his captain hat in the air.

Summertime means BBQs, sunny weather (hopefully!) and in Topshop's case, taking to the streets on a cool bike in an equally cool cycling ensemble.

Starting June 20th, and lasting for one week, the Soho, New York store will host the Bicycle Club.

The fast-fashion destination will have a stable of 30 bikes that it will lend out for free! Riders will be equipped with a biking map of fun spots around the city including some across the bridge in hipster central: Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

As with any sight-seeing excursion, remember to bring your camera! Riders are encouraged to take snap shots and upload them to Chictopia where they will be entered into a competition to win -- you guessed it -- a free bike.

Kate Moss to Launch Vintage Fragrance

"Vintage" by Kate Moss. With retro bottle to match. Photo courtesy of Coty

Kate Moss has made a fortune re-imagining her own vintage-chic style for the Kate Moss Topshop collection, so it's no surprise that she'd take the same no-fail approach for her line of fragrances for Coty. The name of her latest, and third scent, says it all: "Vintage."

"I am fascinated by vintage pieces because they not only have a remarkable beauty but also an innate sense of history," says Moss. "I love the fact that each object has its own story to tell. And yet vintage items can be reinvented with a modern twist to make them very fresh and relevant today. That's why vintage looks have inspired my personal style, my work as a fashion designer and, now, my fragrance."

Kate Moss Topshop Summer Collection Available Now! Plus, Her Sexy Campaign

Kate Moss smolders in her new Topshop campaign. Photo by Mert and Marcus for Topshop

It's here! The Summer 09 Topshop collection by fashion icon, bar none Kate Moss, hits stores and online today (May 21st) and trust us, it doesn't disappoint. Not that you'd expect anything less than superior style from the always cutting-edge supermodel/designer.

This season, the collection is all about versatile pieces that transition effortlessly from day to night or beach to bar. (So you can thank Kate when you only have to pack one suitcase.) With numerous dress options -- 70s-inspired boho maxis (that double as bikini cover-ups) to flirtier, skin-baring minis -- you're set, no matter what your style.

And with design names like "Ibiza" and "Kaftan," it's no surprise that KM drew inspiration from her own summer globe-trotting ways. This is especially evident in the exotic prints, world-traveler embellishments and free-spirited summer scarves, in addition to Kate's choice to pair the clothes with oversized (way beyond shoulder-dusting) feather motif earrings, statement-making chunky gold necklaces (shown right) and assorted stackable bangles intended to be piled onto both arms (all by Freedom Jewellery for Topshop).

And who better to model the wears than the designer herself? (Especially, when the designer is Kate Moss!). Check out these provocative pics from the summer campaign, shot by Mert and Marcus for Topshop. Aside form the über sexy images, it's a very useful "hot to wear my line" styling guide.
