Nike and Nash talking the trash

Just because Earth Day is over doesn't mean we should go back to stomping our carbon footprints all over the carpet. The thing is that Earth Day is every day and if we're not careful Earth may be the next Pluto. Hey, it could happen!

That's why we're pleased to bring you the 'Trash Talk' shoe from Nike. Yes, Nike. Big companies can have a heart, too.

Ugly Betty likes trashy bags

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

If you follow Ugly Betty, you might have noticed Betty carrying around a funky new bag (like the one pictured here) in the "Odor in the Court" episode (also, if you don't watch the show, you really, really need to). The bag wasn't something chosen by the costume designers on set; it was actually a gift to America Ferrera (who plays Betty -- seriously, watch the show!) from Rebagz, and she liked it so much that she decided to wear it on the show.

Aside from being a cool enough bag to be featured on a show about fashion (even if it was carried by the least fashionable character), Rebagz items are all made from things like juice packs and rice sacks -- items that would typically be thrown away, but instead were reused to create a stunning and unusual item.

If the multicolor tote isn't quite your style, don't give up -- Rebagz has a number of bags in different colors and styles, so you're sure to find one that suits your personality.

Vogue TV host wears trash bag to Milan Fashion Week

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Clothing, Dresses

Dress made from trash! Is that a $3,000 designer gown, or a few trash bags held together by tape and staples?

That's the question Louise Roe, a TV presenter for Vogue, was hoping everyone would be asking at Milan Fashion Week -- after she arrived in an outfit created entirely from refuse receptacles.

It was a challenge from her editor, inspired by the recent trend of designers creating absurdly expensive pieces -- like $100,00 bags and $80,000 dresses -- as they attempt to distance themselves from the cheaply-made, disposable fashion you find at discount retailers like H&M and Target.

And apparently it worked. After stapling herself into the "surprisingly comfortable" BLD (bin liner dress), Roe showed up at the first fashion show of the day, and was immediately pounced on by paparazzi, who all wanted to shoot her new look. When journalists started asking where she'd bought the dress, Roe knew her experiment had been a success.

Paris Hilton's trash fetches big money on eBay

At first you might think it makes sense -- of course people would want to buy Paris Hilton's used stuff. Tacky and mind-numbingly stupid though she may be, the woman can dress. But we're not talking about shirts, shoes, or fancy hats -- we're talking about trash.

Actual garbage.

In a recent eBay auction, the seller HollywoodStarTrash.com sold an empty can of gourmet dog food (presumably fed to that ratty pooch Hilton carts around like a fashion accessory), a used toothbrush, and two envelopes sent to the famous-for-nothing media icon while she was "finding herself" in the slammer. The food can went for $305, as did the toothbrush, while the envelopes sold for a whopping $510.

Even her used Coke cans are worth $51.

What I find most surprising is that people buy this stuff without having any way of knowing it belonged to Paris in the first place. I could tell you this can of Sprite I'm holding right now was once touched by Paris Hilton, and someone would pay me $50 for it. How could anyone possibly be so gullible Any takers?
