I Wanna Be a Flapper When I Grow Up - Tip of the Day!

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Supermodel Shalom HarlowIf we lived in the 20's, our guess is that we'd totally be a party and fashion addicted flapper – playing nice with the boys but being one heck of sexy girl.

Fall boots for every fashionista

It's that time of year again -- you want to wear pants every day, and your peep toes and sling backs are both a little chilly. You may be tempted to sport a pair of knee socks -- but this is only advisable if no one can see them. So, if you must wear those pseudo long johns, hide them by pairing a skirt and a great pair of boots!

Caveat: Let me just say, however, that those little ankle boots that are all the rage this season can't really be worn with skirts if you're not a model -- so the tall boot is always more practical for putting together an outfit. Also, some of those 80's reincarnations are just hideous, so don't worry if you've been "missing out" on this trend.

Here are a few timeless wardrobe staples, plus my favorite options for this season:

Size zero is out - curves are back in

Here at Stylelist we try to make sure we do a good job of covering fashion for all sizes. We can't say that we were ever big fans of the super size zero trend because of the insane amount of pressure it puts on normal non-celeb women to be unhealthy in their quest for thinness. So, we're relieved to hear cries from the rooftops that size zero is back out and curves are back in!

Fug is the new sexy

Fashion may have "gone ugly," according to the headlines over at Fashion Indie. But, we have to admit we kind of like it. Gone are the days when women dressed solely to impress men. We're now dressing to impress each other and man, that's a tough audience.

(Charlize Theron playing Hollywood Domino)

Poker is so last year. The new "it" game among the A-list in Hollywood is...wait for it: Dominos! Sounds pretty tame for the glitterati, but so very fun (and affordable!) for the rest of us.

Flatter Your Figure - Avoiding aging fashion flubs

Filed under: Clothing, Flatter Your Figure

As our mother often says, getting older stinks in a bunch of ways, but one of the biggest bummers comes in the form of fashionable clothing (or, rather, the lack thereof). When you're 35, 45, or even checking that 60+ box, you don't want to wear the same types of styles as a high schooler, but you probably don't want to dress like your mother or grandmother.

So what trends will work at any age, and what items will simply age you? We've given this a lot of thought, and have a few suggestions for looking fierce while remaining age appropriate. Click through the gallery to see how!

Tip of the day: Trend alert! Bobs are back.

TomKat's adorable twin bobs.
Okay so first Katie, then Gwyneth, then Liz, next Hayden and now Eva. Obviously bobs are back in business.

If you want to get gully and go for it, make sure that you know some secrets to ensure your bob is bangin, not bland.

Tip of the day: Liberty prints

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

Liberty prints are everywhere. We've seen them on Kate Moss. We've seen them on Keira Knightly. Even on British socialite Peaches Gelfdoff. And if you haven't guessed Captain Obvious, these prints are as English garden as they come.

Designers are tapping in and bringing these charming prints across the pond via floaty, bohemian tops, simple sundresses, summer scarves, chunky shoes and of course, sweet English style tea dresses. Mixing Americana with English rose has never looked so good!

Tip of the day: Don't be so transparent

Filed under: Style in the News, Style Tip of the Day

It is often difficult for people to find anything that you can bring into your own life when it comes to haute couture except for the entertainment factor. That's what we're here for – to pull the haute trends from the runway and deliver them to you in wearable form.

After visiting the house of designer's like Jean Paul Gaultier and Valentino via YouTube, we've uncovered the biggest trend that was shown on nearly every haute couture runway.

Drum roll please...

Tip of the day: They call me mellow yellow (and grey)

Filed under: Clothing, Style Tip of the Day

We have seen the yellow and gray combo around for some time now. The sunny hue is completely complimentary of the soft neutral and a perfect pick for those with a cool skin tone. Plus, it's a lot less harsh than its bumblebee side kick, black and yellow.

Try giving some of these mellow yellow looks a whirl.

Stars and Stripes, summer's new trend

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro

It can be said that last spring what Karl Lagerfeld did for stars and stripes is exactly what his fellow Frenchman Nicolas Ghesquiere did for florals: he made the patriotic motif very, very popular -- sending fast-fashion mills alike into overtime trying to produce budget-friendly pieces that represented the same red, white, and blue theme which was present in every look Karl sent down Chanel's runway.

Topshop immediately added tops, leggings, dresses, and accessories to its online store covered in star constellations and horizontal lines. Our favorite piece by the UK retailer was this navy jumper at right. It's trendy and probably one of the chicest Wonder Woman costumes we've ever seen.

Tip of the day: Be artsy fartsy

Filed under: Style in the News, Style Tip of the Day

We've all seen the art inspired abstract prints that are a key trend this summer. What we bet you didn't know was that the look is also an easy DIY project. Instead of shelling out a cool thousand for a D & G dress, why not do one just as fabulous yourself?

Here's what to arm yourself with:

Man, would you wear this? Men's fashion gets gangsta at London's Graduate Fashion Week!

Filed under: Runway Trends, Events: On the Scene, Men

If fashion is war, then consider Zandile Blay your embedded reporter. From fashion shows to stylish parties, she's there to cover it all -- from London to New York and everywhere in between. Read all about it from your favorite fashionista.

Boy oh boy was Monday all about the boys. As you know, I am your girl on the ground at London's Graduate Fashion Week, which is going on right now and gives British design students a chance to show off their skills. As usual, the bulk of collections that floated down the runway were for women. But somehow between all the floating chiffon dresses, ultra neon tights and cropped leather jackets, the menswear collections emerged triumphant.

Fringe benefits at London's Graduate Fashion Week

See, I sorta wish that was just a witty play on words. But fringes - and lots of them - were the detail of the day at the opening of Graduate Fashion Week. Leather fringes, straw fringes, cotton fringes, multi-colored fringes and beyond paraded down the runway on the first day of the event, which started on Sunday and ends to today. I am your girl in London for the week, as I check out the good, the bad and the fugly at what has become the largest event to promote student fashion designers across Europe.
