Rock your body with fashion slang

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Dresses

rock your body
Fashion queen Patricia Field has taken fashion slang to a whole new level. Now the sidewalk can be your runway with this tube dress that is splattered with all of your favorite pieces of slang, like "work it" and "fierce".

Patricia Field is best known for her styling work on Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada (which is playing on my DVD player right now) but if you go to her site you will find all sorts of affordable goodies. This rocking tube dress is only $54 and is made in the U.S.A.

Patricia Field actually started her career back in 1966 when she opened her boutique in Greenwich Village. The store was designed specifically to target fashionistas and people in the "scene". Forty years later her brand still holds to those standards. I mean, not any girl can rock this runway dress. Other standouts from Patricia Field's collection are finger tip gloves, and her House of Field plastic clutch.

If Patricia's designs aren't your cup of tea, she also sells a variety of other fabulous designers.

Jessica Simpson looks like a carrot

Jessica Simpson has used her magical powers of bad tanning and poor fashion choices to disguise herself as a carrot (if she had on a green hat I would be completely stumped). She has made this mistake before so I am not surprised that she has done it again, although I hoped she would have learned from her mistakes.

Fake tans are great and all -- they sure beat the side effects of harmful UV rays (wrinkles and even worse, skin cancer) but please don't dress in head-to-toe orange to show off how fake you really are. Even if Jessica wasn't the color of a carrot she still shouldn't be wearing orange. Orange is a very hard color to pull off and it's not even in style this season.

Luckily, this dress (Nui tube dress) comes in colors other than icky orange: ballerina pink, black, chocolate brown, heather gray, mustard yellow, navy blue, red, taupe, and white. Yeah, I am out of breath too-- that's a lot of colors. This dress is one of those one size deals but claims to fit sizes 0-14. Ladies please rock the OSFA (one size fits all) with caution. Just because you can get it on doesn't mean it fits.

Other celebs who love this dress include: Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Richie and Salma Hayek. These dresses are made to order so they will take at least one week to ship.

Jungle fever -- the leaf-print trend

Filed under: Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

A new trend for the season doesn't involve animal skin patterns, but leaves. iVillage.com writes about leaf-print products - shoes, dresses, and bathing suits.

I've never been too fond of animal print (leopard, cheetah -- whatever wild animal it may be). However, this twist on a "nature" theme pattern is quite refreshing to the male perspective. No longer must I see the gold and black patterns that should forever be banned, I'm happy to say that pleasing shades of green are in.

It's quite obvious that I can't say Wow, I would LOVE to wear this. I can, however, honestly say that a few of these items I would love to see on a significant other.

This keyhole leafprint dress (which functions as a halter-style or tube-dress look) is perfect for the dog-days of summer, maybe a shoeless sunset stroll on the beach.

One of my biggest turnoffs -- a leopard-print bathing suit. Luckily, Gap is with the program this season and has this palm-style print bathing suit, just the thing to avoid those gold and black polka dots.
