When you think of tweed, your mind probably automatically goes to jackets and skirts -- at least, that's how we work. But there are other ways to incorporate this fall trend into your wardrobe without wearing anything remotely suit-like; for instance, how about with a brilliant bag?

Those of us who live in warm regions face the same challenge every fall -- so many hot new trends come out, but for the most part, it's just too hot to wear them! Sure, there might be a day or two in December or January during which we can wear a wool coat without sweating to death, but most of us aren't going to blow our budget buying items we'll only wear once or twice a season. But still, we want to step into fall fashion -- what to do, what to do?

We have several suggestions that will keep you looking hot but feeling comfortably cool. Those of you who live in colder climates might be able to use these suggestions early in the season, but for some of you, these will be ways to look seasonal until spring!

Tweed is so very, well, autumn/winter, yes, and I don't know where you are, but the weather here in LA has been teasing us in and out of Spring for the last few weeks. However, with a tiny little peep-toe and flower detail at the front, the Zinc Missy pump is the perfect shoe for the transition into Spring! It's the perfect shoe to go with all that menswear-inspired garb on which you stocked up in the last few months and need to wear to get your money's worth before it gets too warm. The chunky heel stands at a modest 3¾", but eases up with a 1" platform in the front.

Believe me, it hurts me to think about spending over $200 on a pair of shoes, though I know it's necessary. Getting up to $500, I can do it about once a year, if we're talking about Christian, Jimmy, or Manolo. But get past $1,000 for a single pair of shoes?

These multi-colored tweed pattern pumps from Chanel are $1,116! Perhaps it's the lizard on the ankle strap, or perhaps it simply that they're from Chanel, but at a price of over a grand, I'd want to wear these to the grave.

So you weren't quite ready to jump forward into 2008, were you? Take more than a few steps back in time with the Sabrina Dress from ModCloth. The vintage-style dress is made of a thickly woven tweed with a metallic sheen in a palette of shades of gray. The scoop neck is lined with contrasting black grosgrain, and has flattering darts just above the bust. WIth a swing-y coat and a pair of black rubber rain boots, the Sabrina works well for January, and can take you straight into Spring when you switch your shoes to black patent heels with a sweet rounded-toe.

If you fell in love with Mandy Moore's ultra feminine look on the cover of Lucky magazine's October 2007 issue, well, you can get most of it with a single piece. What looks like a ruffle-front camisole over a high-waisted gray tweed skirt is actually a dress by Black Halo. The bodice is 100% ivory silk, attached to the skirt that also includes a thin belt. Mandy's got a little cardigan over the dress, making it work for the office, but you can take that dress right to cocktail hour without a cover-up.

The dress is tweed made from 50% silk, 25% polyester, 25% acetate, and though we don't think it actually looks all that gold, the fabric has a shimmer, making it perfect to start out at an early cocktail hour downtown. The wide neckline has a folded collar, the raglan sleeves are three-quarter length, and pleats at the waist are pintucked. Naturally, the best thing about the dress, other than it's ridiculously good-looking shape, is the fact that there are pockets. You'll need a place to keep your hands warm since you can't afford a coat after buying this dress.

Though it's not a dress, per se, a suit certainly fits into the category because there's no need to think about matching a top and bottom (except whatever you wear inside). A suit, which has the potential to be boring and very unimaginative, but the Textured Tweed Suit from Ellen Tracy in hazelnut tweed has all kinds of style. Apart from the fact that tweed is trendier for for this season moreso than it usually is for fall, the suit jacket has a spread collar and sassy turned-back cuffs.
