Lots of celebrities have taken to "designing" clothing lines. And, while some of them make sense -- who wouldn't want to dress like Penelope Cruz? -- some are questionable, to say the least. When you're out shoe shopping, things like 'ethics' and 'moral responsibility' are probably the last thing on your mind. But, that doesn't mean that they should be -- after all, the shoe industry, while I love, love, love it, has a somewhat shady side. Sweatshop labor, factory farms, tanneries, toxic glue -- it seems that the business of pretty shoes is not exactly pretty.

Charmone shoes is a company that combines social consciousness with style.
