Stella McCartney's fur ad

Filed under: Style in the News, Style for a Cause, Green Fashion

Stella McCartney, arguably the world's most recognizable vegan designer, had a rather unpleasant surprise after lending a bra from her collection to a stylist -- the bra was worn by a model wearing a real mink coat in an ad for Hockley.

The ads have since been pulled (after Stella threatened legal action), and a source who works with the designer said, "If Stella knew [the bra] was going to be used by Hockley there is no way she would have lent it... [W]hen Stella saw the picture she was furious. She said, 'It goes against everything I stand for.'"

Tip of the day: Eat yourself beautiful

Filed under: Skin Care, Style Tip of the Day

Okay that sounded weird. What we mean is, sometimes the things you eat are reflected in your outward appearance.

Example 1. If you eat greasy pizza religiously, you face probably looks, well, like a pepperoni.

Example 2. If you eat fresh fruit like it's your job, your face probably looks juicy and fresh.

Got it? Good. Now, let's check in with Dr. Steph to see what foods will make your hair, nails, teeth, and teeth shine.

Project Runway: The Brown family loses

Filed under: Style in the News, Daily Obsession

Guess what reality show surpassed all expectations with their second episode last night? Project Runway! After the premiere episode that practically put everyone to sleep, the producers of the show came back swinging last night (complete with Natalie Portman!).

This week, the roles were reversed and the designers had to take orders from their models. And the models, well, they were sent out to go pick out eco-friendly fabrics that would be made into cocktail dresses for this green challenge. As you can imagine, madness ensued at the fabric store and back at Parson's when the designer's nearly fainted at the sight of some of the god awful stuff (throw-up brown silk) the models brought back.

In the gallery, check out the ups, downs, good, bad, and ugly of last night's episode and find out where Weslley, our Marc Jacobs boy wonder, is now in the competition.

Natalie Portman to appear on Project Runway tonight!

Filed under: Runway Trends, Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

We think everyone can unanimously agree that last week's premiere episode of the fifth season of Project Runway was a tad bit on the boring side. We're not sure if it was because of the fact that the challenge had been done before (and better) or because the contestants didn't seem that interesting, but it took everything within us not to turn the channel after the first ten minutes.

However, we've never been known to quit something we've only recently just started. So we're hoping tonight's episode of Project Runway will be exponentially greater than last week's. And we have a strange feeling (wink) it just might.

Eco-friendly cheerleader, Natalie Portman, will be guest judging tonight's episode. Cool, right? We imagine the contestants will have to incorporate Natalie's vegan shoes into their looks. Anyways, as we all wait in suspense, check out this clip of a preview of tonight's episode. Tim Gunn's "Holla at ya boy" is priceless.

Tip of the day: Start using Ojon... like right now.

Filed under: Men, Hair Care, Cosmetics, Skin Care, Celebrities with Style, Style Tip of the Day

We have never been so smitten with a product before than Ojon's Restorative Treatment. We love, love, love this product. We've tried countless hair treatments and have raided the local Sephora far too many times but this... this stuff is the real deal.

We first heard about Ojon when our silly obsession with Gisele Bunchen's long mane brought us to the word. "Gisele uses Ojon. Must learn more." Apparently a little tribe in Central America called the Miskito Indians has been harvesting the fruits of the tree that bears the Ojon oil for centuries. When the tribe was discovered one of the first things noted was their stunning hair and skin. We mean, well... hot damn, just check out that kid's hair in the picture!

Still not convinced? Here are some more reasons you should totally give this stuff a whirl.

Sustainable style must-haves

Anya Hindmarch's Men and women alike can be sustainably stylish. Here are the must-haves:

1. The reusable bag. It doesn't have to be Anya Hindmarch's bag you see at right (which we've all seen about enough of, frankly), but re-usable bags are eco-friendly and can say a lot about you. You read? Get one at a bookstore. In fact, you probably already have one. They're called tote bags. Use them when you go to the farmer's market (or the drug store) and feel good about yourself.

On the scene: Just in case you didn't believe the 90s were back...

Filed under: Style in the News

-As proof the 90s have returned, check out this video by Tilly and the Wall -- the Nebraska-spawned indie-pop outfit adored by hipster types everywhere. [via fashionindie]

-Alicia Douval, some British "model" famous for getting it on with celebrities and then telling the tabloids, is really proud of her 12-year-old daughter. Not because the tween made her junior high soccer team, scored an A in algebra, or got a bunch of Girl Scout brownie points -- but because she wants a "boob job" (so she can be famous like Britney Spears!). While she admires her daughter's enthusiasm, Alicia thinks it's best to wait until she's older. You know, like 16. [Sun]

Natalie Portman at the launch of Te Casan

Filed under: Accessories, Style in the News, Shoes, Celebrities with Style

When we first heard that Natalie Portman was coming out with her own line of vegan shoes back in January, there were some doubts as to who would actually spend so much money on such pricey shoes -- even if they are animal cruelty free. The general consensus was that you can find pleather shoes at Target for about $200 dollars less and still not hurt any animals.

But, Natalie's line has officially launched and if you check on the official Té Casan (meaning "a woman's path," in the Gaelic language), website you'll see that almost every pair is sold out. Granted, the site specifies that they only have 100 shoes in each size for the pre-order, so that might have something to do with it. Those vegans are a passionate group of people and it looks like if they see a cause they like, they'll support it whole heartedly. Besides, compared to Stella McCartney's vegan shoe line, where a pair will set you back $800, Natalie makes being vegan look cheap!

I'm normally hesitant to endorse any celebrity clothing lines because in general, I feel like starlettes these days will put their name on anything just to make a quick dollar. But that doesn't seem to be the case with Natalie. She has been a known animal activist for quite some time now. Vegan and organic products are becoming more and more popular so it makes sense that she would want to back something like this. Would you buy her expensive vegan shoes just to make a statement?

Browse through the gallery above to see Natalie at the Te Casan vegan footwear collection launch party alongside designer Rogan Gregory. There are a few close ups of the shoes themselves. While they're all cute enough...honestly, $185 for a basic ballet flat made by an actress who's not technically a designer, and really not even that into fashion? Let's just say that I might be willing to sell my first born for a pair of Louboutins...but probably not for a pair of Portman's.

Natalie Portman's vegan shoes are almost here

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Celebrities with Style, Style for a Cause

Natalie PortmanSome of you may have already heard that Natalie Portman's new line of shoes is going to come out on January 15th. All her designs are animal-friendly, meaning they are cruelty-free and are produced in humane conditions. Even though I'm not quite as tenacious as Ms. Portman, I greatly admire the fact that she's put forth the effort to make this difference.

Elle.com has new pictures of the shoes and details on where to purchase. Each pair will set you back about $200. No one said it was cheap to be cruelty-free, unfortunately. Style-wise, I sort of feel like all of the shoes look a bit dated. I mean, they don't look necessarily out-of-fashion, but the preview pictures remind me of something I could have seen at a Nine West in 1998. I do rather like the shiny Mary Jane heels, though.

Psst... Honestly, I think most of the drive to buy is caused by the Natalie Portman name.

Skinny Bitch: It's called a diet

Skinny Bitch
Ever wonder how all those bitches get so darn skinny? Well, there is always the obvious scenario that people always assume of thin women -- they don't eat.

But what if they do eat ...

Skinny Bitch is the new book by authors Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin, that everyone is talking about. It is a no-nonsense, tough-love (and I mean tough) guide for all of the ladies out there who are ready to put down the ho-ho's and pick up a carrot (and make it organic). Rory and Kim has successfully counseled models, actors, athletes, and now every day women using the Skinny Bitch method.

What does one eat or rather not eat on this "method"? Skinny bitches don't drink diet soda or as they call it "Liquid Satan', they never touch fast food, and they don't fad diets (isn't this a ... oh never mind). And meat, or as they call it "Dead, Rotting, Decomposing Flesh", yeah um ... skinny bicthes don't eat that.

They do eat organic foods, whole grains, legumes, veggies, fruit, and water. So dig in and get skinny.
