Victoria Bartlett, the designer behind VPL, was nice enough to explain her inspiration for the fall collection, "I referenced Picasso's women this season. It's an anatomical voyage. The clothes are quite strong, so asked the artists to keep the look simple and healthy, to bring out the girls' natural beauty."

Indeed, the girls were fresh faced thanks to a mini-oxygen facial from Eileen Harcourt who expertly cleansed and massaged their skin before they sat for makeup. Once prepped, Romy Soleimani deftly applied the thinnest wisp of foundation with her favorite beauty sponge: "I love the Beauty Blender! I use it with everything, it's pink and it makes me happy."

Then the girls were off to Neil Moodie from Bumble and bumble for blowouts that left them with long, flowy hair and middle part that zagged back on a diagonal. "I lifted the roots a bit, used a large round brush to smooth the hair and finished up with a little hair powder to add dimension," explained Neil.

VPL Fashion Week Invitation Exquisite Corpse

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Fashion Week

VPL 09
Exquisite Corpse is a type of art exercise with several contributors who know nothing of each other's work. It's like folding a paper into thirds, with three people each drawing a head, torso or legs. The result usually is some alien or oddity. We used to play during study hall.

VPL beauty

At Bumble & Bumble during New York Fashion Week S/S '09, VPL looked to Romy Soleinani and the MAC Pro Team to get the beauty look together. Soleinani told us, "We did an off color, not really based off anything, just working with the color of Vicky's collection." The main color pop was on the lip.

Of course Vicky is Victoria Barlett, founder and designer of VPL (Visible Panty Line). The take away tip here is any makeup color needs to complement the skin tone as well as the outfit. Shown below, twelve hands is better than two.

Victoria Bartlett is the designer behind VPL (Visible Panty Line), shown here at the conclusion of her S/S '09 women's wear presentation at Bumble & Bumble during New York Fashion Week.

It's a super cool collection that has won lots of awards. The concept is to take underwear inspiration into garments with an evolved and mature idea of sexiness. S/S '09 looked to aviation and parachuting in inject volume and detailing.

Judy Licht at VPL

Judy Licht of Full Frontal Fashion and Behind the Label, sat front row at Bumble & Bumble for VLP S/S '09 during New York Fashion Week. Anyone who watches her interviews over the years knows Licht's personal taste are always classy and age appropriate.

We'd love to see her in some VPL, which now has a lot more range than previous seasons. There's still lots of skin in Victoria Bartlett's under garment inspired sportswear. This season, she infused aviation and parashooting themes. But there's also volume, unqiue forms and a mature, albiet downtown, perspective.

How to wear white pants

Summertime is right around the corner. For those of us who still follow the old rules, that means White Season!

White shoes, white bags, white dresses, and most dangerously, white pants. So easy to ruin forever with blueberry pie, so hard to find a flattering fit.

Here are a few of simple rules to take the fear and anxiety out of wearing these most unforgiving garments:

1. Be skinny-skinny-skinny. Where black is slimming, white ahem creates a visual expansion. Particularly of one's posterior. If you're not super slim, you may want to back away from the idea right now.
