Wal-Mart Worker Killed by Black Friday Shoppers

Filed under: Style in the News

ShoppersToday at Green Acres mall in Nassau County, New York, tragedy struck when a 34 year old Wal-Mart worker was killed by shoppers who physically broke down the doors and rushed the store.

Is it the financial crunch that makes people so excited to shop at Wal-Mart? This is insanity. The man who died was a part-time, temporary worker, just doing his job. Can you believe that shoppers were this voracious?

Bugaboo limited edition stroller by Marc JacobsJust when you'd resigned yourself to the fugly but cute baby decor that you thought you were going to have to live with for the next few years. You find that -- for only 10 times the cost -- you can have a stroller that makes you kinda jealous that you can't ride in it too. According to the guys over at FABRIC magazine, Bugaboo's ridiculously cool convertible strollers are the bees knees when it comes to stylish parenting -- but the new Marc Jacobs edition puts you in a league of your own.

Annie Leibowitz gives us a live, nude Daniel Radcliffe

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

Annie Leibowitz, unbowed by the continuing controversy over the nude (but really, so chaste) Miley Cyrus Vanity Fair photo, is back with more teenage skin shots!

Her latest subject is the exhibitionist Daniel Radcliffe. There are no modesty sheets for Harry Potter, he's ready for full frontal, thanks very much. With a horse. And his Uncle Vernon!

Ramiele Malubay, please let American Idol stylist Miles Siggins help

This Sunday, like the rest of America, we enjoyed the infectious humor and gentle insights of Walter Scott's Personality Parade in Parade Magazine. And we learned something very interesting. One poor man, Miles Siggins, aka Mr. Miles, is responsible for styling all those kids on American Idol.

Wal-Mart's feet-burning flip-flops

Filed under: Stores We Love, Accessories, Shoes

Bad Flip-FlopsDarlings, anyone with the most basic fashion sensibility knows that the only things more stylish than Wal-Mart shoes are... chemical burns!

Well, now you can have the best of both worlds, apparently. Check out this woman's account of her horrifying experience with some very normal-looking flip-flops that she bought from Wal-Mart. I didn't want to post any of the pictures of the serious burns left on her feet because some of you may find them quite unsettling.

Despite informing Wal-Mart of this major problem and hearing from someone else who experienced the same issue with identical flip-flops, not much progress has been made in the situation. The problem still has yet to be resolved and it looks like the woman's website will be updated as news comes in.

The scariest thing is that Wal-Mart is still selling the shoes. Sign of good customer care, right there.

Seven Days of Style: Blogs gone shopping

Filed under: Holiday Style, Stores We Love, Accessories, Style in the News, Clothing, Shoes, Jeans, Dresses

blogs gone shoppingIt's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, or whatever Holiday that gets you into a shopping mode, and the fashion blogsophere hits up everything from Target to TopShop. Take a peek at what bloggers were shopping for last week:

Sunday 10/29
- Good grief, it's finally feeling like winter around these parts, and WantNeedHave dons a sweater to go shopping, and hits up Anthropologie for a quick-change, Banana Republic, and Kiehl's.

Monday 10/30 - FabSugar does some FabFinding with black and white and shiny on the brain for chic winter looks: black velvet empire dress and glittery eyeliner at Neiman's, Arden B jacket, Peter Som top from eLuxury, and more. My favorite find is the silver peep toe heels with strap by Guess.

Tuesday 10/31 - The Catwalk Queen lets us know that British TopShop has launched an on online store. Unfortunately, shipping is only to UK addresses for now, but over here, we'll keep our fingers crossed.

Wednesday 11/1 - Wendy O over at Couture in the City browses through the Behnaz Sarafpour collection at Target, calling Sarafpour "the perfect mixture of contemporary trendy and classical chic."

Thursday 11/2 - Montreal-based Parasuco, notable for denim, launches a new, more feminine line called Mademoiselle Parasuco at their first store in San Francisco. Coquette was on hand to check it out, and calls it "so silky and beautiful, you'll be floating in a dream."

Friday 11/3 - Bglam goes shopping for the cooler weather, pointing to scarves and hats from the likes of Burberry, Juicy Couture, and Lacoste. Good tip: "mix high street clothes with designer accessories and everyone will think everything you're wearing cost a whole lot more than it did."

Saturday 11/4 - The Budget Fashionista heads over to Wal-Mart, which "still has a lot of catching up to do in order to compete, in the budget fashion arena, with the Targets and H&Ms of the world" but still picks out some fabulous pieces perfect for the Holidays, and under $20!

Dress of the Day: Metro 7 Babydoll

Filed under: Stores We Love, Must Haves

walmart's metro 7 babydoll dressMost of us are quite familiar with Isaac Mizrahi and the International "Go" lines that Target offers for trendier fashions. However, many of us may not know that Wal-Mart, too, has a "high end" apparel line. Metro 7, which debuted last fall, doesn't have any named designed attached to it, but the clothes are aimed at "hip urban fashionistas" who previously would come in for things like cereal and toilet paper, but would turn their noses up at " cheap, dowdy clothes now spilling off hangers."

This dress is from Wal-Mart's Metro 7 line -- a simple, sleeveless jersey babydoll dress with a deep V that overlaps in a little bit of modesty. The neckline and arms have a tiny ruffle. The waist is comfrtably elasticized and like the neckline, has an organza ribbon detail and sparkles. The dress comes in both black and grey with black detail, but the best part of the dress is that it probably costs less than that bulk toilet paper. It's only $16.94! The dress can be purchased online or in stores.

Think Pink: Socks at Wal-mart

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Style for a Cause

pick stuff socks for breast cancerI'm not a big Wal-mart shopper. In fact, I'm not a Wal-mart shopper at all, but if you are lucky enough to have one of the supermega discount stores in your neighborhood, you can pick up a pack of five pairs of these socks.

The thick cotton socks, by Pink Stuff garments, come in various pink and white designs: one heart and ribbon design, one pink ribbon and stripe design, one "find a cure" and "breast cancer" message design, one "fight, happiness, family, pink, joy, find a cure." Pink Stuff will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these items to cancer research and patient care.

The pack of five is $11.95, and also comes in an ankle-sock style.
