The Top 5 Most Ridiculous Things on Craftastrophe.net

Maxi pad slippers. With snowmen.
Our very own Cat Lincoln introduced us to the wonder of craftastrophe.net, a website where you can send pictures of horrible crafts you've seen (or personally created) for review and perhaps publication. We have been checking said website obsessively ever since. Above, you can see why. We are delighted and horrified. We are delorified.

Website finds your missing gloves

You know what sucks? Losing one glove. It's never that an entire pair disappears -- but, like with socks, somehow one always manages to get away. So you're stuck wandering around the frozen streets -- either suffering the indignity of mismatched hands, or constantly switching your solitary glove from one hand to the other, desperately trying to keep five digits warm while the others succumb to frostbite. Oh, the humanity!

Finally, there's a website dedicated to ending this injustice. The sole purpose of OneColdHand is to reunite solitary lost gloves with their former companions. You can either mail in gloves that you find, or drop off strays at various locations listed on the website. Then, when one of yours goes missing, just browse the website to see if anyone turned it in.

Unfortunately the service currently only exists in Pittsburgh, so the rest of us are stuck with freezing fingers until OneColdHand expands to other parts of the country.

What would you look like with Hillary Clinton's hair?

Are you the kind of person who brings photos of celebrities' hot new haircuts to your stylist? As you've probably experienced, the problem with this method of crafting your coiffure is that you never know how that hair style will look on you. Wouldn't it be nice if you could test drive your new look before committing to it for the next couple months?

Thanks to the wonderful Interwebs, now you can. Introducing HairMixer.com -- a site that allows you to upload photos of yourself, and then mix then with photos of famous people to see what their hair would like on your head. Amazing, right?

And then you can mix together different celebrity images -- just to see how Will Smith might look with Hillary Clinton's hair (for instance).

The photo at right is what I would look like with Will Smith's hair. Probably not the best choice for me.

Get a job through Fashion Quarters

Filed under: Style in the News

Fashion websites are a dime a dozen these days. You've got style.com, glam.com, thisnext.com, iqons.com, but for the most part, these sites are largely interchangeable. If you want social communities, thisnext.com and iqons.com are where you go. If you want trends and articles, you should hit up style.com or glam.com.

The newest chick on the style block, Fashion Quarters, actually has something that none of the other sites have, namely, job postings. Like Media Bistro or Journalismjobs.com (job postings for media people), Fashion Quarters is a clearing house for up-to-date employment opportunities in the fashion industry. So if you're a recent college grad or if you are looking to make the jump into one of the world's most glamorous and frankly, impossible to crack industries, you should take a look at what Fashion Quarters has to offer.

Japanese street fashion continues to put US hipsters to shame

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Clothing, Whatever Style

Street FashionI recently stumbled across another website about Japanese street fashion and, out of my outrageously long list of bookmarks with the same topic, I must say this is my favorite so far. It's well organized, frequently updated, and there is a refreshingly low number of Gothic lolita outfits.

Although a lot of these ensembles require an absurd amount of boldness and confidence to carry, anyone can take a note or two and learn about experimental layering. Check out the guy in the upper-right photo. He's wearing a smart black jacket over a thin cardigan over an apron -- that's right, an industrial apron -- over a thin t-shirt. It shouldn't work, but somehow, it does. A lot of the pictures also come with some close-ups of accessories, which range from bizarre wristwatches to home-made bags to creative ear piercings. Seeing sites like this always inspire me to ransack my own wardrobe, mixing and matching in new, exciting ways. It makes me feel like I've spent a load of money buying new clothes when, really, all I've done is take what I already own and put it to a different use.

The whole website is in Japanese, but it's fairly easy to navigate. There are updates every week, so this site will never lose its cool.

glam.com lifestyle sectionYou're absolutely deliciously dressed everywhere you go, but we all know that style is more than just the clothes you wear. That's why we call if "lifestyle." Super style site glam.com has just added a section called "Lifestyle," where they dish on all the other things in your life that help keep you looking great from the inside. They've got recipes and recent articles on health issues like trans-fats, lack of sleep, and other fun stuff like how to "dress up" a cocktail. And you know how much we love food!
