Prince Harry's girl cleans up her act to meet the Queen

Chelsy Davy, the Zimbabwe-born blonde beauty with a passion for partying and a penchant for short skirts, has been dating the third in line to the British throne, 23-year old twinkly-eyed, PR disaster-prone Prince Harry, for four years now.

So we were a bit surprised to find that she still hasn't met his grandmother, aka: the Queen.

Budget brides can buy gowns online

Something we've noticed lately is the sudden prevalence of relatively inexpensive wedding dresses on the Internet. It started with Lane Bryant's now-dwindling Bridal collection of dresses and separates, all priced at around $150 initially and now on sale for about fifty bucks a pop. Then we noticed that David's Bridal has an online gown collection with dresses for all sizes priced under $250. Now Torrid has a few new wedding options for the curvy bride, all priced under $250.

Sounds great, right?

Wedding ring coffins, 'cause you'll probably get divorced

Marriage on the rocks? On the brink of a break-up with the man or woman you thought was the one and only? If so, you need the Wedding Ring Coffin.

Seriously, what else were you going to do with that fancy-schmancy rock? Unless you're some kind of saint, you're probably not giving it back, and hawking it down at the pawn shop would be far too depressing for someone who's relationship just blew up in their face.

You need healing. You need closure. You need to bury your wedding band in a cute little box shaped like a coffin!

Each coffin comes with a plaque inside that's engraved with a message like "Gone and Forgotten," and, for the truly mature, "I Do...NOT." If you're spiteful and creative, there's also the option of writing your own message -- so long as it's less than "3 lines of text with a maximum of 20 characters per line, including spaces."

At only $29.95, I'm sure this little treasure will cost significantly less than your divorce, and might make you feel better.

Two new blogs with style: Aisledash and GreenDaily

Filed under: Style in the News, Style for a Cause

aisledahs and greendaily
Weblogs is one big bloggy family, and we're getting bigger! If you haven't already noticed the announcement at the top of the page, we've just launched two new blogs, Aisledash and GreenDaily.

We here at Styledash are pretty excited about Aisledash, partly because it's name rhymes with ours, and partly because weddings, whether you love them or hate them, are still always a great excuse to get dressed up. Of course, if you're planning on getting married, Aisledash is a great resource for all things wedding.

Sure, Styledash blogs about eco-friendly fashion, but GreenDaily is our family's first blog dedicated entirely to green living, whether it's grocery shopping, driving, and of course, our favorite, fashion.

Toilet paper wedding dresses

That dress is made from toilet paper and tape -- amazing!Looking for a way to keep your wedding cheap but still totally original? You might be able to save yourself a major expense by making your own dress...from toilet paper.

I know -- it sounds awful -- but check out these photos. The women featured in them created wedding dresses made completely of toilet paper, tape and glue. All of the dresses are surprisingly beautiful -- complete with origami roses, pleats and weaves.

If this is something you'd like to try, be sure to enter your design in the annual contest held by cheap-chic-weddings.com. The winner gets a $500 prize, and there's smaller prizes for runner-ups. Not too shabby for something you made for less than $20 in TP and masking tape.

Bride attacks groom with stiletto

I'm sure getting married is really stressful. All the planning, the family tensions, the commitment (it's no wonder my girlfriend and I are still waiting to tie the knot). But you'd hope that on their wedding night -- of all nights -- couples would be able to look past their differences and love one another.

Not attack each other with pointy shoes.

Sadly, that's the story of Teresa Brown and Mark Allerton, a Scottish couple that got into a fight on their big day -- which ended when Brown attacked her groom with a stiletto, he stumbled, head bleeding, down to the front desk, and had his bride arrested. She spent the rest of the weekend in jail, and he spent the rest of the weekend wondering just what in the hell he'd got himself into.

Now she's out, and the couple are still together (barely) -- so maybe they'll get over this little speed bump and live happily ever after (though I doubt it).

Unfortunately police chose not to disclose who designed the assailant's weapon of choice, but we'll keep you posted.

Trash the dress wedding photos

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Dresses

Amid the posy photos and puffed-up bios that comprise the wedding announcement section of Sunday Times Style Section, there was a fascinating article on the rising trend of so-called Trash the Dress wedding photography.

Trash the Dress, you say?

It's exactly what it sounds like -- following the blessed event, the bride straps on that gorgeous dress once again for a final farewell photo to the gown she spent a fortune to wear for one day only. Only instead of posing in some predictably idyllic setting, the picture is shot in a scroungy back alley or a mossy lake.

These so-called Trash the Dress photos have become all the rage with brides who want to add something unconventional to their wedding albums. And unconventional they are -- particularly the photo at right in which a bride has set her wedding gown aflame, a la Joan of Arc. This shot was taken by a photographer named John Michael Cooper, who coined the phrase Trash the Dress. If you want to see more of his edgy, arty wedding photography, check out his website, which chronicles his collection of Trash the Dress wedding photos.

Pretty cool, huh?

StyleFoul: Über-ugly bridesmaids dresses

A couple close friends of mine are getting married, and -- while, thankfully, they're shooting for something fairly low-key -- this has allowed me insight into the weird, weird world of wedding culture.

Apparently, bridesmaids dresses are always ugly. I presume this is so everyone looks worse than the bride on her special day, but it must suck for all those women who worked their asses off to help their friend/sister throw a huge event, only to be forced to wear something hideous.

Now there's payback. UglyDress.com has cataloged the worst-ever bridesmaids dresses for all of us to laugh at. Hurrah! You can search by category: Bad Patterns, Bad Color, Bad Shape, etc -- or just cut to the chase, and check out the worst of the worst, like "Flat Chest Dress," "The Pregnant Prom Dress," or, my personal favorite, "Married in a Whorehouse."

Hell. Yes.

What to wear to a November wedding?

Filed under: Holiday Style, Handbags, Accessories, Clothing

winter white tuxedo style trouser bcbgAnywhere else, a November wedding would be painful, but here in southern California, the weather in November can be as balmy as the Spring. However, why someone would want to get married during Thanksgiving weekend when there are at least three other weekends available is beyond me, but a girlfriend of mine is having her wedding this afternoon. Summer weddings are easy - the supply of pretty, elegant summer cocktail dresses is endless. However, something for fall is a little tricky, particularly for a wedding. It's not necessarily cold, but it is autumn, it gets dark early, and many of the evening dresses becoming available are geared to Holiday parties. That means they are just a little too shiny. They're not too shiny for me, but they're a little too shiny for a wedding.

My mother used to tell me that I should never wear anything remotely white to a wedding except for pearls and my underwear because white is the bride's color. I am ignoring her because 1) who wears white after Labor Day? and 2) the tuxedo-style trousers I am wearing are actually winter white (similar to these trousers by BCBG). On top, I'll be wearing a slightly long black satin strapless top (similar to this top) with heavy ruching -- come on girls, Thanksgiving was two days ago, so see what I mean about a wedding during Thanksgivign weekend? -- skyscraper stilletto pumps with a viciously pointed toe that just peeps out beyond the edge of my trousers. For other accessories, I'm wearing a strand of pearls, pearl earrings, and I've got a vintage beaded black tiny clutch from my Mom to carry. Not too bad?
