Beyonce's million dollar wig collection

Filed under: Celebrities with Style, Hair Cut and Style

Beyonce pretty much always looks like a million bucks, and her engagement ring is reported to be worth about five million bucks, so we're not all that surprised to hear that B has a climate-controlled closet filled with about a million dollars' worth of high-end hair.

Some of her wigs are worth over $10,000 on their own due to the fact that most are custom made from real hair. And, you know, it's probably a good investment for Beyonce -- she changes her 'do practically daily, and it's surely a whole lot easier to take a new wig out of her closet than have to see a hairstylist and have a brand new look created.

Britney acts crazy at LA boutique, buys yellow wig (that wasn't for sale)

Filed under: Hair Care, Celebrities with Style

Oh, if only we all had the gumption to waltz into ridiculously-priced LA boutiques, make demands, and then storm out with stuff that was never for sale in the first place.

And so goes the latest story in the saga of Britney Spears. The former pop star turned mothering disaster recently decided she needed to have a copy of her favorite Dolce and Gabbana dress -- now. So she strolled into the Betsey Johnson boutique on Melrose Ave with the dress in hand, and proceeded to ask the store manager to make her a copy she'd be able to wear that evening.

The staff tried to explain to Britney that she was asking for the impossible -- but instead of coming to her senses, apologizing, and walking out like a normal person, Spears then decided that she wanted to buy a yellow wig off one of the store mannequins. It wasn't for sale -- which, again, was explained to the celebri-psycho -- but the manager finally relented and sold Britney the fake coiffure for $100 (probably just to make her go away).

Bad news: Britney Spears is still totally nuts. Good news: we'll probably get to see her in a bright yellow wig, which will be hysterical.

Kitty wigs are a haute mess

Remember how appalled I was a few months back when I saw dog wigs on the Today Show? Then you can only imagine my horror when I saw that there are wigs for the feline persuasion as well. Does the madness ever stop? Why did cats have to be dragged into this mockery?

The website KittyWigs.com is selling these wigs and warn that quantities are limited (oh no, we better hurry). You can choose between pink passion, bashful blonde, silver fox and electric blue. Each wig comes in a metal "wig case" that way your pet's precious little wig won't get dirty and matted.

If I were forced (at gun point) to choose a favorite it would have to be "bashful blonde." The only reason I feel compelled to choose this wig is that it has the most hilarious description on the website. Check it out:

" Blonde is a magical mix of bashful and brazen. Fern shows off the many moods of a natural blonde: sweet yet catty, smart yet batty -- where life is alluring and coy. Now all she needs is a bikini and a Swedish accent. Blonde sets off your kitty's eyes and makes your kitty look tan."

Yes, you read that right; it makes your kitty look tan. Now you and I have officially seen it all.

Barristers finally throw off wigs after 400 years

Filed under: Events: On the Scene, Men

If you're like me, and everything you know about the British legal system comes to you through the lens of A Fish Called Wanda then you already aware of the anachronistic lawyer tradition -- barrister tradition -- of wearing a hopelessly foppish, curly wig to argue before the court.

Believe it or not, the horse-hair wigs have been a requirement for lawyers and judges since the 17th century. However, after a recent decision by The Lord Chief Justice the good old days of the court room coiffure might well be numbered.

The Lord Chief Justice determined that lawyers in civil and family law cases would no longer be required to wear the white curly wigs (criminal cases stay the same). Wing collars and bands will also disappear from the official uniform as well as the mandatory wardrobe of colorful judge gowns.

Given that these wigs are terribly itchy (so I hear) and cost anywhere between £400-1500, I can understand why someone might want to get rid of the tradition. But not all lawyers are happy about giving up their wigs. The dissenting side says that the wigs gave them "authority" as well as "anonymity".

Uh, right. Like a man with a Cocker Spaniel on his head has any "authority" or "anonymity" to lose in the first place.
