Michelle Obama on Jay Leno in J. Crew - Get The Look!

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Get the Look

Last night Michele Obama took a break from the Presidential campaign trail and made an appearance on the Jay Leno show. She talked about her husband Barack's ailing grandmother, Toots, and her daughter's lack of awe for his upcoming 30 minute T.V. special. But the big news was her stylishly cheery yellow ensemble.

Mariska Hargitay at the Emmys - From Red Carpet to Your Closet

Filed under: Accessories, Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

All spring and summer, we've seen fashionable females hitting the streets in various shades of yellow, but we would be hard pressed to find anyone who pulled it off better than Mariska Hargitay at this year's Emmy Awards. She was truly a vision in her Carolina Herrera one shoulder gown -- we couldn't turn away!

We know that most of us won't have the opportunity to wear a dress quite like Mariska's, but, we absolutely believe that you can adapt her red carpet style for an event of your own. Click through the gallery to see how!

Dress of the day - Twiggy Stardust Dress

Filed under: Clothing, Vintage and Retro, Dresses, Must Haves

This dress is so texbook Mod style that it'll look like you raided your mother's closet before getting dressed. Considering the popularity of retro dresses this fall, that's a very good thing.

The cowl neck is very now and sophisticated, but the swingy front pleat gives it a girlish playfulness that'll keep you twirling - how many items of clothing do you own that will inspire you to do that?

$49.99 at ModCloth

Emmy Rossum at Phillip Lim store opening - From Red Carpet to Your Closet

Filed under: Style in the News, Clothing, Dresses, Celebrities with Style, Get the Look

We love Emmy Rossum. We just do. She's so darn pretty, and seems like a really sweet girl, and, best of all, is almost always well dressed. We wish we could bottle up that bright and shiny fresh-faced thing she's got going and dab it on when we're feeling dull. Or maybe sell it. But we'd keep a little for ourselves, for sure.

Anyhoo, Emmy came out for the 3.1 Phillip Lim Los Angeles store opening earlier this summer, and we just loved her look. It's youthful and fun, but not so young that it can only be worn by Hollywood's youngest. And, this shade of yellow is great going into fall -- still bright and fun, but with less of a neon aftertaste. Want this look for yourself? Click through the gallery to see how you can make it happen!

Tip of the day: Can I wear... ?

Filed under: Style Tip of the Day

We recently got a question from a reader concerning her attire:

"I have a yellow shirt (color of Tweety bird). Can I throw it on with zebra print shoes? If so, what type (wedge, pump)? I need help!!!!!" – L.A.

Dear L.A. and the rest of our readers...

Why aren't you wearing this? Patent Ballet Flat

Filed under: Accessories, Shoes, Daily Obsession, Must Haves

A bright ballet flat is the perfect shoe to take you from day to night, office to ladies' night, because it's so easy to pair with a variety of looks. It will look chic with a pair of tailored slacks for work and it'll give a pop of color to a pair of dark jeans. It'll also look fab with a cute little dress, and it gives you an excuse to add some bright, chunky jewelry to your ensemble.

I want that! Herve Leger dress

We're about as sick of The Hills girls as you are. Well no wait, maybe we're just sick of Lauren Conrad and her little diva antics... like skipping out on a charity event that helped homeless animals because it was too "embarrassing." Tsk, tsk – just thought you should know that one didn't get by us animal hater!

Some of the less annoying personalities like Whitney Port and Audrina Partridge are still in our good graces. Here Audrina looks smokin' at the Maxim's Hot 100 Party in a bright yellow Herve Leger bandage dress. Good God those dresses make everyone look amazing! Every woman on the planet should probably own one.

Oh -- and thankful goodness she left crusty Justin Bobby at home. She looks must better without him.

Tip of the day: They call me mellow yellow (and grey)

Filed under: Clothing, Style Tip of the Day

We have seen the yellow and gray combo around for some time now. The sunny hue is completely complimentary of the soft neutral and a perfect pick for those with a cool skin tone. Plus, it's a lot less harsh than its bumblebee side kick, black and yellow.

Try giving some of these mellow yellow looks a whirl.

Nail Polish Summer School: Sick of stained nails?

The last time we removed the polish from our toenails and didn't have time to repaint them, we were horribly embarrassed. Not because we're so particular about having our toenails painted -- simply because we kept them painted so often that, when we took the polish off, our toenails were discolored! Eeewww!!!

Make your own Hermes bag... or how about a DIY bikini?

Filed under: Handbags, Accessories, Clothing, Swimwear and Lingerie

Well, it beats spending time on a decades-long waiting list for an iconic Kelly, doesn't it?

New York blogger Karyn Bosnak drew our attention to a new feature on the Hermes website which shows you how to make your own Hermes bag, just like the real thing. The only downside? You have to make it out of paper... a fun craft project, perhaps, but not likely to withstand the first rainy day of summer.

If you'd like to make something a little more substantial (but only a little more substantial), why not try your hand at making a bikini?

From Red Carpet to Your Closet: Leighton Meester at the Metropolitan Opera Premiere

Filed under: Clothing, Get the Look

Leighton Meester might be in a struggle for Queen B status on Gossip Girl, but she was in her element on the red carpet at the MET premiere. We were thrilled to see her go with a bright color, and while some folks find this color slightly reminiscent of Big Bird, we've been in love with it ever since Michelle Williams wore it at the 2006 Oscars.

Several elements of this outfit work together to create this simultaneously classic and trendy look. Click through the gallery to see how you can grab this Gossip Girl's red carpet style.
