I want that! Lindsay Lohan in YSL

Filed under: Shoes, Get the Look

Lindsay Lohan has been seen around town paying "Tribute" to the late Yves Saint Laurent. We thinks Lindsay Lohan has the YSL Tribute's in every style and color matey! She was just spotted in a gold strappy pair and here she is again in a black peep toe version.

We're liking it. In combination with that random hat, just liking. Don't get too crazy now.

Black lip gloss: from the runway to real life

Fall is a great time to try out darker shades of nail polish, eyeshadow, and lip color. But how dark is too dark? Yves Saint Laurent sent black-as-night lips down the runway during its fall fashion show, and the company will offer the signature shade for sale next month. (You can pre-order a tube of "Pur Black" here for $28.)

But though it may come as a surprise, you don't have to be an avant-garde fashionista to work this look. Even mainstream cosmetic companies, like Lancome, are in on the trend. Lancome's ink-black "Piha" gloss will go on sale, as part of a set, in November. Unlike the YSL version, Lancome's is glittery, and meant to be layered over the red lipstick that it is sold with.

So while matte, black lipstick is still a fashion miss, these high-shine black glosses don't have to be. Aaron May, Lancôme's new artistic director, even suggests using "Piha" as a vampy liquid eyeshadow, which seems like a winning way to make this trend more glam than goth.

Naomi takes it off for the cover of i-D

This is a big summer for Naomi Campbell. The supermodel is featured on the cover of Vogue's much-hyped all-black edition, and she's also appearing sans clothing on the cover of International Design.

The August issue also features Stefano Pilati of Yves St Laurent, who is using Naomi as the star of his fall ad campaigns. Presumably in the campaign Naomi will be wearing some of Stefano's designs -- and not just her birthday suit.

That said, a naked, winking Naomi Campbell can sell just about anything -- which, come to think of it, is probably exactly what i-D magazine was thinking.

Is Naomi Campbell pregnant?

In the epic story that is the life of Naomi Campbell, it seems as though our protagonist has finally met her match:

The legal system.

Last week, the supermodel was charged with six offenses for her little verbal and bodily fluid assault at an officer on a British Airways flight last month, which land her with a $10,000 fine, and even worse, a stint in jail for six months!

A dark day for fashion: Yves Saint Laurent has died

Filed under: Style in the News

One of the most influential fashion designers of our time has passed away. Yves Saint Laurent died today in Paris at the age of 71. No cause of death has yet been released.

Saint Laurent is probably the main force behind women wearing pants on a daily basis. When he suggested pants for women, it was considered highly controversial, but he said that his job was "to make clothes that reflect our times. I'm convinced women want to wear pants." Obviously, he was right.

Ike Turner lives at Yves Saint Laurent

Filed under: Runway Trends, Hair Care

Ike Turner may have taken his last breath in December, but the permed chili bowl hair cut that he rocked in the 60s -- when he could still call Tina "Annie Mae Bullock" -- is still very alive and well.

British rocker Rhys 'Spider' Webb of The Horrors was the first to don the "righteous" do followed by Saleisha from America's Next Top Model, Jennifer Hudson, and most recently, the models at Stefano Pilati's Fall/Winter show for Yves Saint Laurent.

The black-bowl wigs, black sunglasses, and black lips the models wore complimented the austerity of the YSL collection nicely. In fact, the models looked like robots while marching down the catwalk in Stefano's immaculately tailored tweed coats and MC Hammer pants.

Oh, yes. Ike would have been so proud.

Kate Moss for Yves Saint Laurent

Filed under: Style in the News

I have to say that all these French designers and their perfume/clothing/makeup ads are starting to look alike -- shot in black and white, high class, expensive and artistic looking, flashes of camera lights and a really famous, gorgeous model.

We get it already. If we use whatever product it is that whatever celebrity is hawking, we too can be glamorous and everyone will want to take our picture. Hip, hip hooray, I'm bored by that idea! We've seen it a thousand times.

Here is Kate Moss' take on the concept for the Yves Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2008 Manifesto.

I much prefer their ad for their Men's Fall/Winter 2008-2009 collection. It features a few naked hot guys, and one really creepy man who just stares into the camera and shakes his head. Although hot guy and creepy staring man might be one and the same, I couldn't tell. Continue reading to see what I'm talking about.

Karl takes it to court

Filed under: Style in the News, Celebrities with Style

As far as designers go, no one is more spirited than Karl Lagerfeld. He has voiced his opposition to model bans; he has ranted about the state of France; he has complained about complicated names. But compared to his most recent cause celeb, these Lagerfeld beefs seem like child's play.

Earlier this month, Lagerfeld took legal action against Paris-based fashion journalist Alicia Drake, author of the new book The Beautiful Fall. Drake's book examines the world of high Paris fashion during the 1970s, specifically the infamous rivalry between Yves Saint Laurent and old Karl. As part of his case against Drake, Lagerfeld claims to have found at least 100 mistakes, including false accusations about his age and his family. Lagerfeld has requested compensation for damages due to the invasion of his personal life.

A judgment is expected by January 15, so we'll be sure to keep you updated as the case unfolds.

Yves Saint Laurent's Perfect Touch

Foundation application can be tricky. Do you use a sponge? Do you use your fingers? Or is it that you are supposed to use a brush?

I'm sorry to say that I can't answer that question conclusively. But I can say that by and large, most makeup artists I know suggest using a brush. But sometimes figuring out exactly how to use the brush can be tricky. That's why Yves Saint Laurent Beaute developed the Perfect Touch Foundation. The first of its kind, the Perfect Touch is an all-in-one foundation bottle with a built in brush. Simply turn the brush to the 'on' position and the foundation flows out from the bottle. Turn it to the 'off' position and you can gently sweep your foundation on. It's practically fool proof! Of course picking out the right shade of foundation is a problem for another day.

Want longer legs? Get nude pumps

After disappearing for about a decade, the nude pump seems to have returned. The somewhat controversial heel was seen on the Yves Saint Laurent runway for the spring 2007 collection. For many people, nude pumps have been the exclusive domain of the bridge-playing, old biddie set, but the newer versions have a much younger, hipper feel. With stacked heels and rounded toes, these shoes are clearly marketed toward a younger, more fashionable crowd. I don't know about the rest of you people, but I'm really looking forward to buying a pair of nude pumps when they hit the stores in a couple of months. It's a well-known fact that nothing -- not even a great pair of Manolos -- makes your legs look longer than a pair of nude pumps.

Saint Laurent down in Paris

Filed under: Clothing, Celebrities with Style

Fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent reportedly collapsed while walking along a street in Paris yesterday. Rumors started to fly that Saint Laurent had suffered a heart attack, but a spokesman for his foundation insisted that Yves was in stable health. Instead, she attributed his collapse not to a heart attack but to run-of-the-mill clumsiness. While trying to get into his car, she claimed, Saint Laurent missed the curb and slumped into his automobile where he remained motionless for a few minutes. The Parisian Emergency services have refused to comment, but Saint Laurent's spokesperson insists that the reclusive designer is just fine. I'm pleased to hear that Yves is okay, but I'm sure that Karl Lagerfeld feels a tinge of disappointment.
