The master of funky, affordable footwear, Steve Madden, has teamed up with Zappos.com to give footwear fiends a chance to design their own Steve Madden shoe to be produced and sold by the online retail giant.

The "Sole Search" contest is going on now through Dec. 24. After all of the entries are compiled, three lucky finalists -- one each from the boot, heel and flat categories -- will be selected to meet with Steve Madden himself in New York (yep, that's a free trip, too), where the shoe mogul will choose the winning design, which will then be produced by his company.

"I'm looking for insouciance and originality," the designer told StyleList exclusively (along with giving Lady Gaga a "Yay" and Alexander McQueen's crazy mutant shoes a "Nay," when asked).

But at the same time, he warns contest entrants, "Try not to be different for the sake of being different."

Don't have an iota of design experience? Fear not. While competitors can create their designs from scratch, others can download Steve Madden templates and patterns to get the creative juices flowing.

Recessionistas, rejoice! Tar-jay just announced two new designer collaborations, set to launch in the spring.

Add Eugenia Kim and Cynthia Vincent to the list of uber talented designers who have collaborated with the mass retailer.

With big names like Anna Sui, Proenza Schouler, Anna Sheffield and Alexander McQueen leading the way, creating a collection for Target has become somewhat of a fashion right of passage. And we're just fine with that.

Cynthia Vincent will be doing a limited-edition footwear line, while Eugenia Kim will be doing what she does best -- hats, a first for Target.

Both collections will be available at Target stores and on Target.com starting April 18, 2010.

As we previously reported, Victoria's Secret is grooming five models -- Chanel Iman, Candice Swanepoel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Lindsay Ellingson and Emanuela de Paula -- to be the new bombshells of the brand (see them in the above gallery).

In order to find out what it takes to be recruited into the sexy VS squad, StyleList caught up with four of these fresh faces as they lounged in their sparkly VS robes before they hit the runway at the celeb-studded Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

"It's really exciting to be the new face of VS," Ellingson, a California native, said while hanging in her makeup chair. "I've always wanted to work for them and it's my dream job."

As for pre-show nerves, Ellingson says she zaps them away by conjuring happy thoughts: "I think of something funny or my dogs," she says. "Just something that makes me happy." And she gets rid of pre-show jiggle with an odd secret weapon.

"I do dance classes, but I'm really big on butt crunches," she says. "I feel like that's my fitness secret. You lay down on the floor looking up and push your pelvis up and down. It's easy to do a 100-200 of those and it's such an easy workout."

"For women, what you really want to focus on is your abs and your butt. And it does both of those, plus the backs of your thighs. You don't run out of breathe and you can do it while watching TV, although it might look a bit weird."

Other secrets the bombshells revealed included what they really wear -- or don't wear -- as undergarments.

"I don't wear bras very often," admitted pouty lip British model Huntington-Whiteley. "But I always wear hot underwear -- something sexy or cute. I have to have good panties on!"

South African Swanepoel, on the other hand, likes to keep things simple.

"It depends how I feel," she says. "But there's really nothing better than putting a pair of those cotton underwear on after a long day of shooting."

And even though she was about to hit the stage in pretty much nothing, all of the underwear talk had first time VS model Chanel Iman cringing.

"I'm actually a little bit nervous to walk without pants! It's a little embarrassing!" she said. "I'm only 18 and it's my first time, but if I have confidence, I think that embarrassment will go away."

Stomping down the runway in wings and thongs, confident would definitely be the word to describe how all of these four ladies appeared at the show.

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which will be broadcast December 1 on CBS, was taped yesterday in New York City and the lingerie giant pulled out all the stops.

An elaborate stage played host to dozens of the best bodies in the world, plus the Black Eyed Peas rocked two songs and Fergie proved she can flaunt a hard body with the best of 'em.

A live performance of "Boom Boom Pow" opened the show as model Alessandra Ambrosio showed off chiseled abs in head-to-toe neon pink latex, kicking off the Sci-Fi-themed group of lingerie, aptly titled 'Star Trooper'. Accessories included metal shoulder pads and even clear astronaut bubble helmets (think: Lady Gaga).

There were four other themes including: 'All Aboard,' which featured classy travel style (complete with dancing bellhops); 'Romantic Journey,' which featured glamorous lingerie (complete with a choir); 'Pink Planet,' which featured the young and colorful Pink collection (complete with a giant inflatable version of its polka dot dog mascot) and an ethereal 'Enchanted Forest' set led by Heidi Klum.

The supermodel surprised audiences by walking the runway -- it was previously reported that Klum would serve as host only -- in an artfully disheveled corset dress. And while it was more coverage than we're used to seeing her in, she revealed an amazing post-baby body.

Other fan favorites included VS vets Marissa Miller (in "the" Damiani Fantasy diamond-studded bra), Doutzen Kroes, Selita Ebanks and Miranda Kerr, along with the new bombshells of the brand who we reported on last week: Chanel Iman in her VS catwalk debut, Candice Swanepoel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Lindsay Ellingson (Emanuela de Paula didn't walk).

Front-row celebs included a tuxedo-clad Jay-Z, Zac Posen, Michelle Trachtenberg and Christian Siriano.

Instead of aiming to be a comprehensive shopping destination, the site -- like the magazine itself -- is built around its editors' constantly updated choices of what's best when it comes to all things fashionable and fabulous.

"We really wanted to do this e-commerce site to bring readers our edit of what was out there in online shopping," Kim France, Lucky's editor in chief, who presented the new site to a handful of influential web editors last night at Lucky's New York offices. "This was an opportunity to link in all of the great sites we shop with and get them under one tent for our editors to go out there and do a big edit of what we really like."

The site includes more than 40 retailers and over 450 labels, which amounts to a well-curated selection of over 86,000 items from the realms of clothing, accessories, and beauty. When you type in a search, the results will begin with Lucky's editors' top picks in that category. In addition, hot deals and new arrivals are spotlighted daily.

"You can not only buy things but really hear the editors' voices and see what our favorite picks are," says Mary Gail Pezzimenti, Luckymag.com's online director. "We really do all the hard work of finding the best sales, deals, and picks."

Although the initial list of retailers and brands (which includes the likes of Marc Jacobs, Phillip Lim, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and many more) is vast, more names will gradually be added to the site's selection. Plans are also in the works to integrate shopping.luckymag.com into Lucky's (admittedly addictive) i-phone application.

"I feel confident that if you're a Lucky fan, you'll be a fan of this," France says.

Attention footwear fiends!

The best in the shoe business for 2009 -- from designers to executives to industry analysts -- were just announced by Footwear News, WWD's 60-year-old sister publication covering the footwear industry, and we've got the winners.

Hall of Fame Inductees are Matt Serra of Foot Locker, George Malkemus of Manolo Blahnik and the late John Shanley, a footwear industry analyst.

"This year's winners proved that the right business strategy and great design can triumph over a bad economy," Michael Atmore, the editorial director of Footwear News, said in a statement. "They have set the standard for the rest of the industry."

The 12 winners will receive their awards in a ceremony on December 1, joining the ranks of designers Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin and Tom Ford, who have won past awards.

Those are some big shoes to fill for 2010 hopefuls!

The challenge is simple, so I encourage you to try it with me. Here's the plan:

At last night's Cinema Society and Calvin Klein screening of "Broken Embraces" Fergie walked the red carpet carrying a Doo.ri for Be & D Portfolio Clutch.

The grey bag, crafted from washed goatskin and accented with oxidized brass chains, is straight from the Doo.ri Spring/Summer 2010 runway and is the fashion designer's second collaboration with accessories brand Be & D.

For the Doo.ri for Be & D collection, designers Be Inthavong ("Be") and Steve Dumain ("D") played off Doo.ri's Spring 2010 color palette of grey, nude, black and blush.

Other handbag styles available for spring include a soft brownish-grey hobo with a crystal-accented handle and a grey lace draped purse on a long chain strap.

The Doo.ri for Be & D Portfolio Clutch will be available at beandd.com for $1,590 in January.

Michelle Trachtenberg, of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Gossip Girl" fame, is trying her hand at jewelry design for a special collaboration with Coach Poppy.

According to Coach, the collection, set to debut Spring 2010, will feature Swarovski crystals hand-set in amethyst, black diamond and clear gem colors Coach.

The line will also feature pearls, bold, mismatched hardware and a few key pieces include a heart-shaped crest and antique key charms.

StyleList caught up with the always fashionable Trachtenberg to get the scoop on her jewelry, find out the design inspiration and see if clothes are up next.

StyleList: How did the partnership with Coach come about?
Michelle Trachtenberg: I'm a big fan of Coach and have worn their handbags and accessories for years now. The idea to collaborate on a collection of jewelry was very organic, as was the design process.

SL: Do you consider yourself a girlie-girl or more edgy?
MT: I'm definitely a mix of both and my spring collection will really speak to that. I like to play with fashion and mixing a romantic dress with a tough leather jacket or studded platforms is totally my style.

SL: What was your inspiration for the designs?
MT: For spring I was really inspired by that romantic, antique-y feel and decided to punch things up with mixed metals and gems. It has a very "Marie Antoinette meets Blondie" vibe. My inspiration for holiday was twofold as well; I love bees and what they evoke and adored the idea of doing something not typically seasonal, which is where the cobalt blues and olive greens came from.

SL: Have you always wanted to design jewelry? What about other categories? Clothes?
MT: I am a big fan of jewelry and design, so the fusion of both was a natural one for me. I've dabbled in other areas of fashion and can definitely see myself designing in the future, though I'd like to focus on accessories. They really do make the outfit.

We're not surprised. The starlet has already collaborated with Monica Botkier to create the aptly named "Michelle" bag.

It used to be that the quilting aisle of your local fabric shop was stocked with flower prints that were far from fashionable.

But now a whole new generation of quilters has arrived, and with them, gorgeous, patterned fabrics.

The queen of this new quilting world is Amy Butler, who's created a lovely psychedelic universe of patterns, stitching supplies and books. Her quilting fabrics, including "Love" and "Midwest Modern," have people taking note, and even novice sewers are rushing to snap up her project kits.

Butler's book "In Stitches" offers a ton of easy projects; you can also check them out on her site for free.

Anna Maria Horner is another quilt pioneer with a mouth-watering selection of ethnic-inspired cotton fabrics -- the perfect match to her patterns and kits. Horner also has a new book out, reaffirming the current quilting-sewing crossover trend: "Seams to Me: 24 Reasons to Love Sewing."

For sheer inspiration Denyse Schmidt is a great resource -- her simple fabrics and modern designs will get the creative juices of any sewer flowing.

One of the greatest quilting shops around is Cool Cottons, located in an Arts and Crafts bungalow in Portland, Ore. Each room of the house is filled to the brim with contemporary fabrics. Learn more here.

Free Spirit is also another great resource for nouveau-chic quilting fabrics.

If you have the urge to throw some actual quilting into your sewing mix, try making this sleek quilted bag with some of the great new cotton fabric that's out there. Or stitch together a simple quilt with your favorite textiles.

Those are just a few sources to get you exploring the crossover world of quilting and sewing.

"Keeping up with the Kardashians" now requires designing jewelry.

The style conscious sisters are teaming up with accessories brand Virgins, Saints & Angels to launch The Kardashian Collection. Set to debut next spring, the initial offering of 15 to 20 pieces will include rings, necklaces and earrings; all of which will retail for between $60 and $500 at better boutiques.

"Being Armenian has always been a huge part of our life growing up and I can't wait to share our culture and heritage with everyone," Kim Kardashian says in a release.

Adding, "Armenia is a culture rich in tradition, and with the help of Virgins, Saints & Angels we were able to captivate its very essence by designing a unique line of jewelry reflecting and honoring our Armenian roots."

Kourtney Kardashian admits that growing up, she always dreamed of being a fashion designer.

"I am so blessed that I'm starting to work on that dream with my amazing sisters," she says in the release. "I can't wait to be able to wear our own jewelry representative of our culture!"

Owner, designer and CFDA inductee Cheryl Finnegan founded Virgins, Saints & Angels, a line that showcases necklaces, rings, cuffs, key chains, money clips and belt buckles featuring classic gods, goddesses, gypsies, angels, hamsas, hearts and its signature design -- the San Benito.

The collection is a combination of relics and new designs, all handcrafted in Mexico and plated in sterling silver or 18K gold. Celeb fans include Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, David Beckham and Jessica Alba.

"We're all really into fashion so it was cool having the opportunity to gain experience on the creative end of this project," Khloe Kardashian wrote on her blog. "Each store will be able to custom design each piece for their store so the line will be unique each time!"

We wonder if Khloe used that ginormous rock from Lamar Odom as inspiration.

Many women are willing to pay top penny for the perfect pair of heels. So when it was announced that famed stiletto-meister Jimmy Choo was planning to collaborate with H&M, you could practically hear a collective cheer coming from the female population.

For the official launch on Saturday morning, we popped over to the retailer's blockbsuster Fifth Avenue location to find out about the devoted shoppers waiting on line to score the "Jimmy Choo for H&M" loot. (Some of them had been there for 12 hours in the rain!)

Lindsay Lohan may have to eat some serious crow.

After a disastrous debut as artistic advisor at Emanuel Ungaro, the actress turned "designer" shocked critics by claiming she was working on a jewelry collaboration with legendary jeweler Pascal Mouawad for mega retailer bebe.

At first, the story wasn't that far-fetched since Mouawad has previously partnered with celebs including Nicole Richie and Heidi Klum on their respective jewelry lines.

A spokesperson for bebe told StyleList, "Lindsay is not doing a line with us. We had talked to her months ago but never went forward with anything."

And, Mouawad himself, decided to put the fashion rumor to rest as well.

In an email to WWD, Mouawad said that while there were discussions for a LiLo for bebe collaboration, the outcome was far from decided upon. He stated outright: "This is not happening."

Lohan may not be doing on a line for bebe, but design ambitions seem to run in the family. Lindsay's mom, Dina, is launching a line of footwear.

It's safe to say that most of us would kill to have Brad Pitt wrapped around our finger or -- admit it -- Angelina Jolie on our arm.

And while that doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime this millennium, you can always have the exceptionally hot couple on your wrist...

Jolie and Pitt have collaborated with luxury jewelers Asprey to create the serpentine-inspired Protector Collection, with all proceeds benefiting the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, according to Asprey.

The silver, jewel-encrusted pieces pay homage to the snake, which Jolie reportedly views as a symbol of fertility and protection.

According to the jeweler, the actress was given a snake ring during her first pregnancy and has since felt a bond with its symbolism.

And judging by the collection, the ssssexy duo know what they're doing. Along with a sterling silver snake-adorned spoon, egg cup and tooth box (for kiddos, not a "Fight Club" sequel, we're thinking), the limited edition, handcrafted pieces include jeweled snakes that encircle the wrist and ring finger, plus luxurious pendants and earrings that boast more than 100 gemstones each.

The pendants, rings and earrings also come in both children's and adult sizes, which means we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for baby bling on Knox and Vivienne...and Shiloh...and Pax...and Zahara...and -- phew -- Maddox.

"This deal came about because of a relationship [Asprey CEO] Robert Procop has with the couple," a former Asprey executive told StyleList.

The former exec, however, expressed skepticism over the designs, saying, "I don't know whether the Asprey client really cares about Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt."

The collection goes on sale starting tomorrow, with prices available upon request (read: out of our price range!).

Greetings, StyleListers!

Marissa Gold, Celebrity Style Editor here, reporting live from the Jimmy Choo for H&M VIP launch in NYC.

The Fifth Avenue store was closed to the public tonight so that a select group of editors (and friends of editors) could be the first to shop the new collection.

The action was tense, but civilized, as fashionistas sat on any flat surface they could find to try on the Choos.

Most of the heels were $99 and up, but accessories like belts and wallets weighed in a little cheaper.

Michelle Tractenberg of "Gossip Girl" shopped the selection while wearing the pair shown here in black.

While the first floor was crowded with Choo fans juggling shoe boxes with glasses of wine and hors d'ouevres (which were delicious, by the way), the rest of the store was nearly empty.

And it's a shame, because everything else was secretly on sale for 25% off, an employee told us.

We came expecting to buy one thing, and ended up spending a grand total of $379.35. (That translates to two pairs of shoes and two shirts in Choo land).

As for the quality, the shoes are relatively lightweight and the footbeds aren't padded, but this isn't the designer's full-priced line, which is the point, after all.

If you're a Choo fan looking for an affordable piece of the rock, you've found your sole mate. If you're a shoe purist who won't settle for less, you may want to save up for the real deal.

Expect a zoo Saturday (Nov. 14) when the store opens up to the public (read: get in line early and be ready to grab your goods.)
