Add <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/17/mary-j-blige-alicia-keys-and-serena-williams-party-with-gucci/" target="_blank">Alicia Keys</a> to the long list of <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/celeb/">celebrities</a> turned <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/22/nicole-richie-clothing-line-winter-kate/">fashion designers</a>.<br />
<br />
The songstress is launching <a href="http://www.thebarbersdaughters.com/" target="_blank">The Barber's Daughters</a>, a collaboration with jeweler Gis&egrave;le Theriault. The partnership kicks off Nov. 23 and 24 with a <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/02/ebay-store-holiday-new-york-city/">pop-up shop</a> at the <a href="http://www.colletteblanchard.com/" target="_blank">Collette Blanchard Gallery</a>, 26 Clinton Street, on NYC's hip Lower East Side.<br />
<br />
The hand-crafted jewelry line is all about the power of positive vibes, featuring precious metals inscribed with thoughts, poetry and prayers from the author of "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Hidden-Messages-Water-Masaru-Emoto/dp/1582701148" target="_blank">Hidden Messages in Water</a>," <a href="http://www.life-enthusiast.com/twilight/research_emoto.htm" target="_blank">Dr. Masaru Emoto</a>. <br />
<br />
Grammy winner Keys <a href="http://www.thebarbersdaughters.com/name.html" target="_blank">talks about</a> the idea behind the line in an interview on the collection's site:<br />
<br />
"The words, when you read them, they really do resonate with you. They kind of inspire you to want to find that place in yourself," she explained. <br />
<br />
At the time of the interview, the singer was wearing a silver oval ring that read: "May you find inspiration and meaning soaked in the wonders of the imagination cradled in compassion of the heart and hold a will to make difference." <br />
<br />
Keys isn't the only one in the music industry to get in on the fashion thing, this <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/26/mark-ronsons-gucci-sneakers-revealed-as-is-evan-rachel-woods/" target="_blank">famous DJ teamed up with Gucci on limited edition sneakers</a>.<br />

</div>
Thakoon Panichgul, the genius behind <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/14/fashion-week-backstage-beauty-at-thakoon/">Thakoon</a>, is branching out into fine jewelry. <br />
<br />
The ready-to-wear designer (and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/25/michelle-obama-style-the-first-lady-wears-thakoon-dress-for-g2/">Michelle Obama</a> favorite) has signed on to design for Japanese jewelry company <a target="_blank" href="http://www.tasaki.co.jp/english/index.html">Tasaki</a>. <br />
<br />
One of the largest jewelers in Asia, the company came looking for <a target="_blank" href="http://www.thakoon.com/">Panichgul</a>. "They scoured for me and searched me out," Panichgul told StyleList. <br />
<br />
"My PR office in Japan called and said this fine jewelry company wanted to speak to me and only me. They saw a synergy in what we do," he explained.<br />
<br />
It was a serendipitous meeting, as Panichgul loves fine jewelry. "I've always been interested in designing fine jewelry," the designer admits. "Something about the twist of hidden luxury was a fit for me." <br />
<br />
In this new role, he will design Tasaki's top tier collection and will act as creative director for the rest of the company's lines. <br />
<br />
Tasaki is known for pearl jewelry, and in fact it supplies <a target="_blank" href="http://www.mikimotoamerica.com/">Mikimoto</a> with its pearls. "I'm drawn to pearls as a material," Panichgul said, but also, raw diamonds. <br />
<br />
Adding, "I think it's so devaluing when diamonds are cut up to look like everything else. I'm non-flashy in that way." <br />
<br />
Tasaki is sold mainly in Asia, but Panichgul hopes to introduce the brand in the U.S sometime in the future. "We will take it slowly," he told us. (Not too slow, we hope.)<br />
<br />
Thakoon also serves as the creative director for <a target="_blank" href="http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=hogan+handbag">Hogan</a>.<br />

Instead, oversized and opulent make-a-statement styles-such as rhinestone-encrusted cocktail rings, turquoise cabochon chandeliers, and sequin-and-crystal-studded tulle bibs-are very, very in. But this turn toward the ostentatious doesn't mean that anything goes: As Boston-based stylist Kerry Epstein explains, "Less is still more. If you're going with a bold necklace, you need to lay off the earrings and the bracelets." Or, as <a href="http://www.jcrew.com">J. Crew</a> creative director Jenna Lyons even more simply puts it, "Pick a spot. That's the rule I tell all my friends."<br />

So much for wearing flats!<br />
<br />
While the debate on whether <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/06/high-heel-ban-in-the-workplace-if-a-uk-union-has-its-way/">sky-high stilettos pose a health and safety risk</a> rages on, women in the UK are apparently unfazed. Not only are they continuing to wear <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/08/women-will-suffer-painful-heels-in-the-name-of-high-fashion/">"killer" heels</a>, they're also willing to drop significant cash for one-of-a-kind, custom-made ones.<br />
<br />
"It used to be women coming in who had foot problems," British made-to-measure shoemaker <a href="http://www.carolinegroves.co.uk/" target="_blank">Caroline Groves</a> explains to <a href="http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/fashion/news/bespoke-boom-demand-surges-for-handmade-shoes-1816857.html" target="_blank">The Independent</a>. "But now they are younger women who have had lots of designer shoes but want something longer lasting with more character."<br />
<br />
To standout in a sea of <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/12/louboutin-barbies-ankles-too-fat/" target="_blank">Louboutins</a>, be prepared to pay a high price: Groves' bespoke creations range from &pound;1,600 to &pound;2,500 ($2,654 to $4,147) a pair.<br />
<br />
Market forecasting agency <a target="_blank" href="http://www.wgsn.com/">WGSN</a> explains to the British paper that this pricey trend is part of a larger movement which has women buying fewer things but of higher quality. <br />
<br />
Designer <a href="http://www.rupertsanderson.co.uk/docs/index.php" target="_blank">Rupert Sanderson</a>, whose fans include <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristin_Scott_Thomas" target="_blank">Kristin Scott Thomas</a> and "<a target="_blank" href="http://www.foxsearchlight.com/slumdogmillionaire/">Slumdog Millionaire</a>" star <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/14/harry-winston-reports-second-quarter-loss-throws-huge-launch-p/" target="_blank">Freida Pinto</a>, is offering the made-to-order service, allowing clients to choose a shoe's style, color and fabric.<br />
<br />
Sanderson's <a target="_blank" href="http://www.rupertsanderson.co.uk/docs/shop.php?id=17:8:0:908:0">"Winona" custom colored croc heels</a> go for a whopping &pound;3,495 ($5,797).<br />
<br />
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.vogue.co.uk/">Vogue UK's</a> fashion features editor Harriet Quick told The Independent: "The threshold on what people spend on shoes has gone through the roof. They have raised the bar on what a shoe is; with height, skins and embellishment, so that is factored into the price." <br />
<br />
She's not kidding.<br />
<br />

And having been there quite often, it's become evident that New York City and the city of angels have two very distinct fashion sensibilities, and this pertains to handbags as well.<br />
<br />
New Yorkers, in general, opt for timeless shapes like structured north-south totes, well-crafted satchels and semi-structured shoulder bags with refined surface treatments. <br />

LA ladies, on the other hand, are much more casual in their handbag choices. Hobos with fringe, as well as cross-body styles rule. And classic <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/05/celebrities-bring-back-80s-fashion/">'80s</a> long strap flap-overs -- something we see in NYC, but in larger sizes -- are a Hollywood must-have. <br />
<br />
The differences in purse preferences can be connected to social and cultural differences. <br />
<br />
New York is much more of a walking city. It's not unusual for me to trot from appointment to appointment on foot, spanning many blocks and avenues throughout the day. It's also common for people to get together for after work drinks. As such, we need larger bags with the functionality of inner and outer pockets, since when we leave home at 7am we may not return until 7pm, at the earliest. <br />
<br />
Also, living in a city overrun by <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/14/vogue-cfda-fashion-fund-finalists/">fashion designers</a>, old money and socialites, there is an expectation for New Yorkers to uphold a certain chic standard unlike any other part of the country. While colored options are endless, as with apparel, black dominates bags, too. We also love our <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/19/target-carlos-falchi-bags/">timeless, exotic skins</a>.<br />
<br />
Three handbag styles you might find on the island of Manhattan (above): <a target="_blank" href="http://www.brahmin.com/handbags?category=6">Brahmin</a> Croc Tote with gathered detailing ($395), <a target="_blank" href="http://www.coach.com/online/handbags/-handbags_feature_kristin-10551-10051-38806-en?t1Id=62&amp;t2Id=38806&amp;tier=2">Coach</a> Kristin Zip Top Tote ($698) and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=282574492715885&amp;PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446238500&amp;R=7640141192740&amp;P_name=MCM&amp;sid=124C002BCF44&amp;ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395222441&amp;bmUID=1257352237402">MCM</a> Sportivo Satchel from the brand's New York Collection ($975).<p><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/08/handbags-new-york-city-vs-los-angele-style/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Getting Purse-onal: Handbag Style - New York City vs. Los Angeles</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/08/handbags-new-york-city-vs-los-angele-style/">Getting Purse-onal: Handbag Style - New York City vs. Los Angeles</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Sun, 08 Nov 2009 15:19:00 EST. With <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/30/sonia-rykiel-for-handm-sneak-peek/" target="_blank">high-waisted briefs</a> being the revealing garment du jour -- evidenced by <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/02/kate-hudson-alex-rodriguez-weight-loss-botox-elle/" target="_blank">Kate Hudson</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/04/natalie-portman-goes-tough-chic-talks-sex-scenes-in-v-magazine/" target="_blank">Natalie Portman</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/13/rihanna-nude-photos-album-cover-shoot/" target="_blank">Rihanna</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/01/25/lady-gaga-pantless-is-the-way-of-the-future/" target="_blank">Lady Gaga</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/20/shakira-rocks-a-gaultier-bodysuit-in-her-new-she-wolf-video/?feeddeeplinkNum=0" target="_blank">Shakira</a> and more -- it's clear innerwear is the new outerwear. <br />
<br />
So, it was only natural that chronic thigh flashers <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/20/beyonce-postpones-malaysia-concert-protests-over-sexy-outfits/" target="_blank">Beyonc&eacute;</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/07/06/katy-perry-poses-for-flare-magazine-and-admits-she-doesnt-play/" target="_blank">Katy Perry</a> decided to kick it up a notch at the <a href="http://ema.mtv.tv/" target="_blank">MTV Europe Awards in Berlin</a> and accessorize their panties with garters -- a <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/12/katy-perry-lily-allen-taylor-momsen-garter-belt-tights/" target="_blank">trend that we noticed</a> picking up steam a few weeks ago.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/24/katy-perry-and-her-fruit-salad-fashion/" target="_blank">Perry</a>, the show's hostess for the second year in a row, had <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/06/katy-perry-nude-bustier-dress-mtv-europe-music-awards/" target="_blank">a dozen costume changes</a> (many in the glittery bra and underwear genre, of course). <br />
<br />
Perhaps the singer's most modest getup was a red velvet <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/03/diane-kruger-repeat-offender/">tuxedo</a> blazer thrown over a boudoir-worthy number and paired with red tights featuring painted on black garters and pin-striped thigh-highs. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/14/mischa-barton-and-beyonce-flash-more-than-just-a-smile-at-the-vm/" target="_blank">Beyonc&eacute;</a>, on the other hand, limited herself to a mere four outfits -- a metallic hourglass <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/28/versace-to-lay-off-350-employees/" target="_blank">Versace</a> mermaid dress for the red carpet, an edgy metal-adorned David Koma LBD to receive her <a href="http://ema.mtv.tv/winners" target="_blank">three awards</a> (Best Song, Best Video, Best Female Artist), a crystal-studded off-the-shoulder frock to kick it with husband <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/04/happy-birthday-beyonce-our-priceless-gift-suggestions-for-jay/" target="_blank">Jay-Z</a> at an afterparty and a feisty performance outfit that left little to the imagination. <br />
<br />
The latter, worn to sing her current hit "<a href="http://www.beyonceonline.com/us/home" target="_blank">Sweet Dreams</a>," consisted of a strapless ruched <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/15/agent-provocateur-goes-space-age-in-latest-campaign/" target="_blank">Agent Provocateur</a> bodysuit, long fingerless gloves and red garters holding up scarlet-trimmed thigh-highs. <br />
<br />
The only constant in all of <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/17/beyonces-curly-bangs-fierce-or-fugly/" target="_blank">Beyonc&eacute;</a>'s ensembles was her gigantic <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/20/lorraine-schwartz-jewelry-beyonce/" target="_blank">Lorraine Schwartz wedding ring</a> which she wore throughout the night. <br />
<br />
So, what do you think of this new super-revealing trend highlighting the thigh: is it best left for the bedroom or is it made for the stage? <br />
<br />
Leave a <strong>comment</strong> (above left)!<br />
<br />
Here's an undergarment trend that will <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/04/pointy-bras-are-back/" target="_blank">perk you right up</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/07/beyonce-and-katy-perry-garter-belts-mtv-europe-awards/">Beyoncé and Katy Perry Rock Garter Belts at MTV Europe Awards</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Sat, 07 Nov 2009 07:00:00 EST. Last night <a href="http://www.luckymag.com/">Lucky Magazine</a> hosted its sixth annual VIP kickoff event for Lucky Shops - a buying bazaar of designer goods that benefits <a href="http://www.dressforsuccess.org/">Dress for Success</a>. Held in New York at the spacious Metropolitan Pavilion, celebs such as Lake Bell and Katrina Bowden showed up with credit cards in hand, ready to scour the racks and charge away at the stations for <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/10/Fashion-week-vena-cava-spring-2010/">Vena Cava</a>, Rachel Comey, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/14/fashion-week-runway-review-tracy-reese/">Tracy Reese</a>, Pour la Victoire, and more. <br />
<br />
Aside from the radical discounts (some up to 75% off), the retail mecca also included themed areas such as the Boudoir Bar (with fancy unmentionables), the Jeanius Bar (with sewers on hand to hem lengthy pairs), and an entire section devoted to HSN, <a href="http://www.hsn.com/lucky-shops-2009_at-4897_xa.aspx?nolnav=1">featuring exclusive pieces that were created in conjunction with the shopping bible</a>. <br />
<br />
Susannah (our Style News Editor) and I were fortunate enough to attend and let us tell you, it was heavenly. After sifting through the racks at Vera Wang, See by Chlo&eacute;, and Trina Turk, I managed to score some fab Bing Bang earrings and a Clu dress at $50 a pop! Susannah, meanwhile, honed in on a cobalt blue silk Tracy Reese top for summer. <br />
<br />
If you weren't one of the, er, <em>lucky</em> few to attend, don't fret! The sales continue tomorrow for a $20 entry fee! Check out the official <a href="http://www.luckymag.com/blogs/luckyrightnow/2009/11/lucky-shops-2009-map-your-ulti.html">Lucky Shops map</a> to chart your course! <br />

Just when we thought the "It" bag was over, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/28/forbes-top-earning-dead-celebrity-is-yves-saint-laurent/" target="_blank">Yves Saint Laurent</a> comes out with the "Roady," which has celebs like <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/28/mary-kate-and-ashley-olsen-hit-new-york-city-in-olsenboye-treat-truck/" target="_blank">Mary-Kate Olsen</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/15/rihanna-hair-style-slicked-back/" target="_blank">Rihanna</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/24/katy-perry-and-her-fruit-salad-fashion/" target="_blank">Katy Perry</a> clamoring for the hobo style.<br />
<br />
But like so many "It" items, seeing everyone and their mother carrying the same bag as you is a total fashion downer. <br />
<br />
Luckily, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/26/natalia-vodianova-new-face-of-ysl/" target="_blank">YSL</a> has the perfect solution. Shoppers in Los Angeles and New York City will be able to put their own stylish spin on the "Roady" from Nov. 19 through Dec. 1.<br />
<br />
Here's how it works: You choose from colored, patent, sting ray and black nappa versions of the bag, then artisans are on hand to customize the purse with special handles -- there are 29 options -- and a complimentary monogram inside the bag.<br />
<br />
While we're all for personalized fashion, the price of being original doesn't come cheap. <br />
<br />
The "Roady" ranges from $1,195 - $1,795, with an extra charge for the special handles -- $225 for lizard, $385 for ostrich and $515 for <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/06/10/hermes-to-breed-own-crocodiles/" target="_blank">crocodile</a>.<br />

OK, now I don't feel so bad about succumbing to those <a target="_blank" href="http://shopping.stylelist.com/browse/boots?fts=via+spiga">Via Spiga boots</a>.<br />
<br />
The <a target="_blank" href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/06/business/economy/06shoes.html?_r=1&amp;ref=business">New York Times reports</a> today that shoe sales are up despite the economy.<br />
<br />
Shoe sales rose 7.9 percent in October year-over-year and 7.8 percent for September compared with last September, according to figures the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/06/business/economy/06shoes.html?_r=1&amp;ref=business">Times</a> obtained from SpendingPulse, a MasterCard service.<br />
<br />
Retailers and experts offered up a variety of theories about the increase: Shoes have to be replaced so they are an easier purchase to justify; shoes are more fun to buy than <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/category/denim/">jeans</a> (amen!); fall fashions demand <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/19/tall-boots-street-style-from-nyc/">many styles of boots</a>.<br />
<br />
Whatever the reason, now that I know everyone is doing it, I plan to do my part to get the economy back on its well-shod feet. <br />
<br />
I'm headed out to shop this weekend, and may even be brave enough to try an over-the-knee style, now that I know <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/26/fall-boots-over-the-knee/">how to wear them</a>.<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe width="562" scrolling="no" height="254" frameborder="0" src="http://shopping.stylelist.com/widget?pid=uid4900-601570-60&amp;fts=over%20the%20knee%20boots&amp;width=4&amp;height=1" style="display: block;" name="shopstyle_search"></iframe><br />
<br />
Now read up on somewhere you may not be <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/06/high-heel-ban-in-the-workplace-if-a-uk-union-has-its-way/" target="_blank">seeing heels</a>.<br/><br/><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/06/shoe-sales-up-despite-economy/">Shoe Sales Up Despite Economy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Fri, 06 Nov 2009 13:24:00 EST. Last night's <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/24/jimmy-choos-handm-collection-rolls-out-we-hyperventilate/">Jimmy Choo for H&amp;M</a> launch party was one star-studded (and high-heeled) event.<br />
<br />
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.jimmychoo.com/">Jimmy Choo</a>'s founder and president Tamara Mellon hosted the f&ecirc;te along with Jeffrey Katzenberg to support <a target="_blank" href="http://www.mptvfund.org/cm/Home.html">The Motion Picture &amp; Television Fund</a> at a private residence in the Hollywood Hills.<br />
<br />
While the collaboration won't hit stores until Nov. 14, lucky guests including <a target="_blank" href="http://music.aol.com/artist/hayden-panettiere/2267526">Hayden Panettiere</a>, <a target="_blank" href="http://television.aol.com/celebs/kate-walsh/1963927/main">Kate Walsh</a>, <a target="_blank" href="http://television.aol.com/celebs/olivia-wilde/2114881/main">Olivia Wilde</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/06/26/model-turned-designer-angela-lindvall-collaborates-with-edun/">Angela Lindvall</a>, <a target="_blank" href="http://music.aol.com/artist/sheryl-crow/1021774">Sheryl Crow</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://television.aol.com/celebs/maggie-grace/2083513/main">Maggie Grace</a> all got an up close and personal preview of the highly anticipated capsule collection.<br />
<br />
In addition to Mellon's famous heels and women's accessories at wallet-friendly prices, she also designed women's apparel and for the first time ever, a collection for men, which includes shoes, bags, accessories and clothing.<p><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/03/jimmy-choo-for-handm-launch-party/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Jimmy Choo for H&amp;M Launch Party Draws the Hollywood Set</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/03/jimmy-choo-for-handm-launch-party/">Jimmy Choo for H&amp;M Launch Party Draws the Hollywood Set</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Tue, 03 Nov 2009 20:58:00 EST. <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/28/mary-kate-and-ashley-olsen-hit-new-york-city-in-olsenboye-treat-truck/">Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen</a>'s Dualstar Entertainment Group has signed a deal with <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stevemadden.com/">Steve Madden Ltd.</a> to produce shoes for the twins' new <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/26/the-olsens-launching-juniors-line-olsenboye-at-jcpenney/">Olsenboye</a> collection which will be sold exclusively at <a href="http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/default.aspx">JCPenney</a>. <br />
<br />
The shoes, targeted to the junior market, range in price from $40 for the "Venice" canvas flat to $100 for the "Hailey" boot, a combat-like lace-up.<br />
<br />
Other styles include "Sofia," a platform heel with ruffle T-strap for $60, "Lara," a studded sandal for $50 and "Rio," a gladiator-type sandal for $50. <br />
<br />
The Sofia ruffle shoe and Hailey combat boots will be available on <a href="http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/default.aspx?&amp;cm_mmc=Google-_-G_JCP_Official_Site-_-G_JCP_Official_Site-_-jcpenney" target="_blank">JCPenney.com</a> and in select stores starting November 6. <br />
<br />
The rest of the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.olsenboye.com/">Olsenboye</a> styles will roll out in February. <br />
<br />
"Steve and his team are very excited about the opportunity to join forces with Ashley and Mary-Kate to create aspirational, trend-right fashions at affordable prices," Edward Rosenfeld, Steve Madden's chairman and chief executive officer, said in a release. <br />
<br />
Madden is no stranger to JCPenney. His company also manufactures shoes for the chain's Fabulosity line.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/03/mary-kate-and-ashley-olsenboye-shoes-steve-madden/">Mary-Kate and Ashley's Olsenboye Shoe Deal With Steve Madden. She's always been a fashion icon in our eyes, and now Barbie's got the award to prove it! <br />
<br />
At last night's <a href="http://www.accessoriescouncil.org/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=12&amp;Itemid=29" target="_blank">Accessories Council 13th Annual ACE Awards</a>, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbie" target="_blank">Barbara Millicent Roberts (aka Barbie)</a> was presented with the Fashion Icon of the Year award. <br />
<br />
After the awards ceremony, the busy blonde gave StyleList an exclusive interview:<br />
<br />
<strong>StyleList</strong><strong>: How does it feel to be named Fashion Icon of the Year? </strong><br />
<strong>Barbie</strong>: I am truly honored! And to think that <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/31/diane-von-furstenbergs-moscow-exhibition/" target="_blank">Diane von Furstenberg</a> presented me with my award! She is one of my style icons! <br />
<br />
<strong>SL: We love the Judith Leiber-designed ACE award, did you get to meet her?</strong><br />
<strong>Barbie</strong>: Judith and I partnered back in 2005 when we did a fabulous doll together. It was fantastic to work with her again and of course I wore my <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/26/judith-leiber-a-lifetime-of-handbags/" target="_blank">Judith Leiber</a> purse to the Awards on the red carpet. A Judith Leiber bag is a must-have for every fashionista!<br />
<br />
<strong>SL: What was it like having </strong><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/12/louboutin-barbies-ankles-too-fat/"><strong>custom Louboutins made for you</strong></a><strong>?</strong><br />
<strong>Barbie</strong>: In 50 years, I have acquired over 1 billion pairs of shoes, however, my <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/02/christian-louboutin-visits-washington-d-c-for-the-first-time/">Louboutins</a> are by far my favorite! Christian is a fantastic designer and I loved all the time I spent with him. My custom Louboutins make me feel like the luckiest doll in the world!<br />
<br />
<strong>SL: And what was all that talk about </strong><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/12/louboutin-barbies-ankles-too-fat/" target="_blank"><strong>you having less than perfect ankles</strong></a><strong>?</strong><br />
<strong>Barbie</strong>: I'm a doll! My ankles are only 22mm in circumference! It was all just a big misunderstanding! Christian loves my ankles -- it was my arch he wanted to give a little more "lift" so I could rock those high heels. It's all in good fashion fun!<br />
<strong><br />
SL: So, big news with the feature film being made about you. Who do you think should play Barbie?</strong><br />
<strong>Barbie</strong>: Um, me... among my many careers, I'm also an actress, of course!<strong><br />
<br />
<br />

Stiletto maestro <a target="_blank" href="http://www.christianlouboutin.com/">Christian Louboutin</a> recently visited Washington, D.C. to sign his famous red soles at <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/27/neiman-marcus-holiday-window-display-stylelist-gets-a-sneak-pe/">Neiman Marcus</a> in <a target="_blank" href="http://www.tysonsgalleria.com/">Tysons Galleria</a> shopping center. <br />
<br />
Aptly, the shoe designer talked politics when it came to his first visit to the nation's capital:<br />
<br />
"For eight years I was invited, but I never wanted to come before. <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/29/AR2009102905241.html?hpid=sec-artsliving" target="_blank">I never wanted to come with Bush</a>. I'm looking forward to coming back -- at least for four years," as reported in the Washington Post.<em><br />
</em><br />
Not one to be press-shy, the outspoken Frenchman didn't stop there, "I would hate for someone to look at my shoe and say, 'Oh my God! That looks so comfortable!' That's not what I want to project. But I'm not a sadist," <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/18/christian-louboutin-movie-LA-store-shoes/">Louboutin</a> told the newspaper. <em>(Quelle horreur</em>!)<br />
<br />
Adding, "I don't believe suffering makes you beautiful. But comfort is not part of my creative process." <br />
<br />
Job well done! When we see his heels, we think costly not comfy. (But we'd still skip a month's rent to buy a pair.)<br />
<br />
And here's <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/12/louboutin-barbies-ankles-too-fat/" target="_blank">one client</a> who has no problem trading practical for platform.<br />

<br />
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/06/11/david-beckhams-new-emporio-armani-underwear-campaign/">David Beckham in an Armani underwear ad.</a> <br />
<br />
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/24/jimmy-choos-handm-collection-rolls-out-we-hyperventilate/">Designer gear that we can actually afford</a>. <br />
<br />
And, if all else fails, a motor-powered metal spike that beans us in the skull until we flash those pearly whites. Ouch!<br />
<br />
That's just what inventor <a target="_blank" href="http://lauren-mccarthy.com/happinesshat/">Lauren McCarthy's Happiness Hat</a> does. <br />
<br />
At first glance, the hat looks like any other white wooly winter topper. But according to <a target="_blank" href="http://lauren-mccarthy.com/happinesshat/">McCarthy's site</a>, the hat features a headpiece-like bend sensor that hangs by the cheek and measures the size of your smile -- or lack thereof, as it were. <br />
<br />
If the little guy decides that you're not meeting your perky potential, it sends a signal to a servo motor which will then direct a metal spike to strike you on the head, inversely proportional to the degree of smile, McCarthy says. <br />
<br />
McCarthy explains that over time your brain will be conditioned into smiling continuously. <br />
<br />
No kidding -- we'd be grinning from ear-to-ear if it meant avoiding a jab to the noggin. <br />
<br />

<p><a href="http://vimeo.com/7283341">happiness hat</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/lmccart">Lauren McCarthy</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
McCarthy describes smiling to StyleList as "a simple action that has the power to make you and everyone around you feel better."<br />
<br />
Adding, "I am interested in the way we interact, how the individual fits into society, the patterns and expectations of everyday social behavior, how these can be questioned and rethought, and the underlying psychology/neuroscience of it all."<br />
<br />
"Though not entirely practical, this piece is a call for all of us to take time to think about these things, see the systems and frameworks we act within, and explore alternatives," McCarthy told us.<br />
<br />
And if nothing else, it would make one killer Christmas present for that pouty <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/23/victoria-beckham-travels-in-a-cape/">Victoria Beckham</a>. <br />
<br />
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/15/weird-hats/">These wacky hats</a> also make us smile... <em>sans</em> the pain.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/01/happiness-hat-uses-metal-spikes-to-make-you-smile/">Happiness Hat Uses Metal Spikes to Make You Smile</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Sun, 01 Nov 2009 16:00:00 EST. Downtown cool meets uptown chic at <a target="_blank" href="http://www.devikroell.com/">Devi Kroell</a>'s new flagship store, which just opened in a landmark building on New York City's prestigious <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/02/the-intern-report-stalking-the-sex-and-the-city-2-set-on-nyc/">Madison Avenue</a>.<br />
<br />
StyleList got an exclusive walk through the sleek space that boasts cathedral-ceilings and looks more like a Chelsea art gallery than an <a target="_blank" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_East_Side">Upper East Side</a> boutique, but that's exactly the way Kroell wants it. <br />
<br />
"I wanted to create an airy, secluded space where shoppers could have a serene experience and take in the pieces at their own pace," the designer says. <br />
<br />
We can see why! <br />
<br />
In addition to a rainbow array of her <a target="_blank" href="http://www.devikroell.com/catalog/product/261">signature python hobo bags</a> (some colors are exclusive to the store), there are knee-high boots, platform booties, jeweled evening bags and to-die-for ballet flats, all done in exotic skins and buttery leather, plus a whole second floor devoted to Devi Kroell's ready to wear. <br />
<br />
If you're in New York, check out the store at 717 Madison Avenue. But don't be surprised if you start justifying a <a target="_blank" href="http://www.devikroell.com/catalog/product/155">$3,990 accordion bag in stingray and python.<br />

Yes, we know. You didn't blow your rent money on an amazing pair of <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/18/christian-louboutin-movie-LA-store-shoes/">Louboutin</a> pumps just so you could stare at them while you walk around barefoot. <br />
<br />
But according to a new study, taking off your shoes when inside is <a target="_blank" href="http://dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/137008/Why-it-pays-to-take-off-your-shoes">healthier than leaving them on</a>, as reported by The Daily Express. <br />
<br />
Researchers from the <a href="http://www.arizona.edu/" target="_blank">University of Arizona</a>, who have reported their findings in the <a href="http://pubs.acs.org/journal/esthag" target="_blank">Environmental Science and Technology</a> journal, determined that 60 percent of dust comes from outside and is most commonly brought inside via the soles of our shoes, according to the paper.<br />
<br />
(Yes, even those divine red <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/12/louboutin-barbies-ankles-too-fat/">Louboutin</a> bottoms.) <br />
<br />
And while dust may sound like something you can live with, the study reportedly found that shoes can track in dangerous poisons and pollutants such as arsenic and lead, posing a significant risk to children and pets. <br />
<br />
So maybe it's time to turn your entryway into a makeshift shoe closet. After all, there's a lot we'd do for our <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/24/jimmy-choos-handm-collection-rolls-out-we-hyperventilate/">Jimmy Choo</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/05/30/manolo-blahnik-drawings-shoes-that-are-better-than-sex/">Manolo Blahnik</a> heels, but making our kiddies or kitties sick just isn't one of them. <br />
<br />

New Year's resolutions aren't really our thing, but that doesn't mean we intend to kick off 2010 on the wrong foot.<br />
<br />
Which is why we're mopping up puddles of drool after getting a sneak peek at the hot new footwear designed by none other than <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/03/25/nicole-richie-goes-gaga/">Nicole Richie</a>. <br />
<br />
The fashionable starlet, whose highly anticipated ready-to-wear collection <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/22/nicole-richie-clothing-line-winter-kate/">Winter Kate</a> makes its debut early next year, has added footwear to her popular <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/03/24/nicole-richies-jewelry-line-sells-out/">House of Harlow 1960</a> accessories line, according to a press release from <a target="_blank" href="http://www.my-wardrobe.com">My-Wardrobe.com</a>, which will exclusively sell the shoe line online in the UK come January. <br />
<br />
And judging by the these photos, it's going to be one very happy New Year. <br />
<br />
Strong embellishments and tribal details -- reminiscent of House of Harlow 1960 jewelry -- guarantee covetable statement shoes in the form of heels, flat sandals and moccasin boots.<p><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/29/nicole-richie-house-of-harlow-1960-shoes/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nicole Richie's New House of Harlow 1960 Footwear Collection</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/29/nicole-richie-house-of-harlow-1960-shoes/">Nicole Richie's New House of Harlow 1960 Footwear Collection</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Thu, 29 Oct 2009 19:45:00 EST. Fall's new legwear has taken the conservative looks of seasons past and splashed them with stripes, dots, checks, and color blocks for gaze-at-me gams. <br />
<br />
From the runway (think everyone from <a href="http://www.balenciaga.com/us/en/eShopLanding.aspx">Balenciaga</a> to <a href="http://www.betseyjohnson.com/">Betsey Johnson</a>) to retail, open weaves, jewel tone hues and embellished sheer styles have legs making serious statements as the temps turn cool. <br />
<br />
"Patterned and textured legwear was all over the runways this year," says Maggie Adams, trend expert and spokesperson for <a href="http://www.spanx.com/home/index.jsp">Spanx</a>. "I think women love it because it's a fun, easy and affordable way to update existing outfits in your closet." <br />
<br />
"Nothing screams fall like tights and sweater dresses for women's fashion," says Jana O'Leary, spokesperson for <a href="http://www.target.com/">Target</a>. "Textured and patterned tights can instantly change a look, adding a personal touch to any fall ensemble." <br />

<!--END HERE-->Shoe expert and author of "<a target="_blank" href="http://www.missmeghan.com/book/">The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You</a>," Meghan Cleary will debut a new footwear line in collaboration with <a target="_blank" href="http://www.shopnbc.co">ShopNBC</a> today (Oct. 29) as part of the channel's Beauty and Style Week. <br />
<br />
The <a target="_blank" href="http://www.shopnbc.com/SearchM/Default.aspx?page=LIST&amp;prop=Miss%20Meghan%20Shoes%20Sneak%20Peek|2011&amp;BreadCrumb=prop&amp;catprop=2011">Miss Meghan Shoe Collection</a> is launching with a suede 2.5-inch heel <a target="_blank" href="http://www.shopnbc.com/Miss_Meghan_Bow_Detail_Suede_Ankle_Boot/S51015.aspx?storeid=1&amp;cm_re=SearchList-_-N-_-N&amp;page=LIST&amp;prop=Miss Meghan Shoes Sneak Peek|2011&amp;catprop=2011">ankle bootie</a>, available in plum, black and brown for $45. <br />
<br />
Cleary, aka <a target="_blank" href="http://www.missmeghan.com/">Miss Meghan</a>, shared the magic of the bootie with StyleList.<br />
<strong><br />
StyleList: Why did go with the bootie for your first style?</strong><br />
<strong>Miss Meghan:</strong> Booties are so hot right now and I wanted to do a version that was on-trend, fun and wearable.<br />
<br />
<strong>SL: What makes this bootie unique? </strong><br />
<strong>MM: </strong>A lot of ankle booties can be unflattering because of the cut of the silhouette. Mine were specifically designed to slim any size ankle or calf and give the appearance of a long line. <br />
<br />
<strong>SL: What's next from the Miss Meghan Shoe Collection? </strong><br />
<strong>MM:</strong> I'll be launching a micro collection in December, which will feature ballet flats, platform pumps and shoe clips. Spring 2010 has a ton of nude in snake, croc and patent, as well as some pops of color.<br />
<br />
Miss Meghan will be <a target="_blank" href="http://twitter.com/MeghanCleary">Twittering</a> live from the ShopNBC studios. Michelle Trachtenberg, aka the villainous Georgina Sparks on "<a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/05/gossip-girl-designer-guest-stars/" target="_blank">Gossip Girl</a>," has teamed up with bag designer extraordinaire<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span><a href="http://www.botkier.com" target="_blank">Monica Botkier</a> to create this chic bag (shown right, and featured on the Oct. 12 episode of the hit series).<br />
<br />
"Working with Michelle has been a blast! She is quite talented and very dedicated to making this a success." says Botkier, whose bags and shoes are also loved by celebs including <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/06/24/megan-fox-pulls-another-angelina-jolie/">Angelina Jolie</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/06/rihanna-paris-fashion-week-spring-2010/">Rihanna</a>.<br />
<br />
The blue leather "Michelle" satchel will retail for $545 and is available for pre-order now at <a href="http://www.botkier.com/" target="_blank">botkier.com</a>. It will also be sold on <a href="http://www.shopbop.com" target="_blank">ShopBop</a> in the next couple of weeks. <br />
<br />
A portion of the proceeds from the bag's sales is going to <a href="http://www.oxfam.org">Oxfam.org</a>, a charity that helps fight worldwide poverty. <br />
