We've taken more than one odd detour on what was supposed to be the "<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/15/project-runway-season-7-back-to-new-york-premiere-recap/">all New York</a>" season of "<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/22/project-runway-wii-video-game-to-launch-in-march/">Project Runway</a>," but finally our hometown fashion cravings are fulfilled. <br />
<br />
The remaining eight designers are dispatched throughout Manhattan in search of inspiration. The only complication: Their urban tours involve the "buddy system." Uh-oh -- that means it's the dreaded "team challenge" week.<br />
<br />
<strong>The Challenge:</strong> Teams must tour an assigned neighborhood, using its sights, sounds, and street style as influence for day and evening looks.<br />
<br />
<strong>The Designing Duos and Their Neighborhoods:</strong> <br />
<ul>
    <li><a target="_blank" href="http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/project-runway-designers/anthony-williams">Anthony Williams</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/project-runway-designers/maya-luz">Maya Luz</a>: Chinatown</li>
    <li><a target="_blank" href="http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/project-runway-designers/emilio-sosa">Emilio Sosa</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/project-runway-designers/seth-aaron-henderson">Seth Aaron Henderson:</a> Harlem</li>
    <li><a target="_blank" href="http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/project-runway-designers/amy-sarabi">Amy Sarabi</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/project-runway-designers/jonathan-peters">Jonathan Peters:</a> Upper East Side</li>
    <li><a target="_blank" href="http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/project-runway-designers/jay-nicolas-sario">Jay Nicolas Sario </a>and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/project-runway-designers/mila-hermanovski">Mila Hermanovski</a>: East Village</li>
</ul>
<strong><br />
Can't We All Just Get Along?: </strong> Sario and Hermanovski do not like each other, and Sario is hyperventilating at the prospect of walking a single city block with her. Luz, an admitted control freak, questions Williams' taste and Sosa and Henderson have completely different design aesthetics. The only happy "couple" is Peters and Sarabi. Both are game for complicated designs that push boundaries. A match made in heaven? <br />
<br />
<strong>The Neighborhood Tours: </strong>Our fifth-grade visit to the Statue of Liberty wasn't this much fun! Southerner Williams is fascinated by ducks hanging in the Chinatown shop windows. "We don't have things like this in Georgia," he says, as Luz shrewdly steers him and his sketchbook toward some paper dragons. <br />
<br />
Sosa, who has lived in Harlem, enjoys getting Henderson to groove on the "liquor stores and fried-chicken shops." Sarabi and Peters run their hands over textured building materials and swoon over elaborate iron gates in the tony Upper East Side. Sario and Hermanovski sit on a park bench and try to sketch without stabbing each other with pens.<br />
<br />
<strong>This Week's Product Placement:</strong> <a target="_blank" href="http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway">Lifetime</a> viewers, meet <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/21/loreal-paris-hollywood-walk-of-fame-restoration/">Collier Strong</a>, the consulting makeup artist for <a target="_blank" href="http://www.lorealparisusa.com/_us/_en/default.aspx#/#/?page=top{userdata//d+d//|diagnostic|main:home|media:_blank|nav|overlay:_blank}&amp;ecid=lorus_rm_msn_brand_L'Oreal">L'Oreal's Studio Secrets</a>. We don't mind the product promotion since Strong does some pretty cool things with yellow eye shadow and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/28/the-perfect-red-lipstick-for-your-skin/" target="_blank">red lipstick</a>. Who knew it could look so good? <br />
<br />
<strong>The Guest Judges:</strong> <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/18/fashion-week-runway-review-calvin-klein/" target="_blank">Calvin Klein</a>'s Creative Director Francisco Costa fills in for designer <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/17/michael-kors-fall-2010-runway-review/" target="_blank">Michael Kors</a>, and model/actress <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/12/molly-sims-does-jewelry-for-hsn/">Molly Sims</a> rounds out the panel in a beautiful way.<br />
<br />
<strong>The Runway Show:</strong> Just like New York, the show is mostly fashionable and mostly hip. We are especially smitten with Williams' evening look and the street-smart vibe of the Sosa/Henderson collection. <br />
<br />
And we are worried about Sarabi and Peters, who somehow think the color orange represents the Upper East Side. Um, did they notice all the black clothing when they were out strolling? <br />
<br />
<strong>Who's In: </strong>The Sosa/Henderson duo wins top honors for "getting" their neighborhood and playing nice. "I have to say, I'm in love with both looks," says judge <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/10/heidi-klum-heart-truth-red-dress/">Heidi Klum</a>.<br />
<br />
<strong>Who's Out: </strong>Texan Sarabi's departure is a shocker because she's been on our short list for a coveted spot in the final four since she won the <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/05/project-runway-episode-4-recap-matters-of-heart/" target="_blank">Campbell's Soup red-dress challenge</a> way back in Episode 4. The collection Sarabi presented at New York <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/fashion-week" target="_blank">Fashion Week</a> in the show's finale taping was also a standout -- we remember several pieces, which is impressive considering that 10 contestants showed 10 looks each.<br />
<br />
Peters sobs at her exit, and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2008/11/11/tim-gunn-exclusive-interview/" target="_blank">Tim Gunn</a> is distressed, telling her she's "a real talent." Sarabi is circumspect and parts by saying, "I like to try new things and don't want to change my perspective."<br />
<br />

Forget waiting for the April showers to bring flowers -- <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/25/handm-launches-organic-skincare-line/">H&amp;M</a> is breaking them out now. <br />
<br />
Just in time for spring, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/26/handms-sustainable-clothes-topshop-does-cosmetics/" target="_blank">H&amp;M</a> is introducing its Garden Collection, which is full of <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/12/29/michelle-obama-date-night/" target="_blank">floral prints</a> -- bright, bold, and even subtle - all made in <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/29/beauty-brands-sued-for-misusing-organic-term/" target="_blank">organic</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/02/04/narwhal-company-original-recycled-necktie-accessories/" target="_blank">recycled</a> materials. <br />
<br />
"We're listening to our customer," a spokesperson tells <a target="_blank" href="http://stylelist.com">StyleList</a>. "Every year we use 50 percent more recycled product," including PET bottles (aka plastic soda bottles) and recycled textile waste. <br />
<br />
Aside from the recycled <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/04/snuggle-suit-keeps-the-snuggie-trend-alive/" target="_blank">polyester</a>, H&amp;M's 80-piece collection also includes <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/01/05/popomomo-eco-friendly-fashion/" target="_blank">eco-friendly</a> fabrics like <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/17/alabama-studio-style-author-natalie-chanin/" target="_blank">organic cotton</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/10/diy-design-recyle-vintage-table-linens/" target="_blank">linen</a>, and <a href="http://organicclothing.blogs.com/my_weblog/2005/11/tencel_sustaina.html" target="_blank">Tencel</a>, which is produced with minimal environmental impact. <br />
<br />
Prices for these pieces start at $14.95 for recycled shoes and go up to $60 for a jacket, though most items are around $20. <br />
<br />
As you'd expect, the clothing itself is romantic and quite feminine. It's styled in a <a target="_blank" href="http://currentvintage.com/blog/?s=talitha+getty&amp;x=31&amp;y=8">'70s, Talitha Getty kind of way</a> -- relaxed, flowing floral pieces you could imagine wearing on a yacht in the Mediterranean (or at your local pool). <br />
<br />
And though the prints are all floral-inspired, they are not as precious as you'd expect -- there's a real modern edge to this collection, which hits the selling floor March 25. <br />
<br />
Meanwhile, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/10/liberty-of-london-at-target-run-dont-walk/">Liberty of London's florals are having a spring awakening at Target</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/19/handm-garden-collection-offers-organic-florals-for-an-eco-friendly-spring/">H&amp;M Garden Collection Offers Organic Florals for an Eco-Friendly Spring</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Fri, 19 Mar 2010 19:00:00 EST. They say two heads are better than one, and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/17/runway-review-ralph-lauren/" target="_blank">Polo Ralph Lauren</a> and <a href="http://www.vfc.com/" target="_blank">VF Corp.</a>'s <a href="http://www.thenorthface.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TNFLocaleSelectionForm?storeId=10003" target="_blank">The North Face</a> are putting that theory to the test.<br />
<br />
The fashion titans have teamed up to file a <a href="http://www.wwd.com/business-news/polo-north-face-fight-online-fakes-3004221?module=today" target="_blank">federal lawsuit</a> naming more than 130 China-based Websites that are allegedly using up to 6,500 domain names in a massive counterfeit case, reports WWD.<br />
<br />
Along with breaking legal records for being the largest counterfeit case in the books, the fearsome duo allege that the sites and domain names are actually a network that can be mostly traced back to one Website, B2BSharing.com.<br />
<br />
According to the complaint, this online ring sells large numbers of <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/21/burberry-wins-1-5-million-in-counterfeit-lawsuit/" target="_blank">counterfeits</a> (as much as $780,000 a month) to U.S. customers by using English-language sites such as polo4sale.com and outletnorthface.com, says WWD.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/12/01/ralph-lauren-launches-an-online-monogram-shop/" target="_blank"> Polo Ralph Lauren</a> and The North Face's legal team wrote that the counterfeit ring is "of a size and scale they have not seen before." <br />
<br />
All of which makes the counterfeit case not your usual cat-and-mouse situation.<br />
<br />
"To borrow from the well-worn analogy of comparing an <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/12/fendi-wins-injunction-against-filenes-basement-in-counterfeit-handbags-case/" target="_blank">anticounterfeiting program</a> to playing a game of Whac-a-Mole, combating this modern-day Internet-driven counterfeiting ring is akin to playing a game of Whac-a-Mole on steroids," the fashion brands' lawyers stated in the court documents.<br />
<br />
B2BSharing.com is a sophisticated operation with 24/7 online help services and allegedly lifted item images from authorized sellers. With many online outlets, the risk is low because assets are tough to trace, reports WWD.<br />
<br />
When the plaintiffs did some digging, they found that the online company was operated by Fujian Sharing Import &amp; Export Ltd., but the address in China was still unknown. <br />
<br />
When <a href="http://stylelist.com" target="_blank">StyleList</a> checked this morning, both B2BSharing.com and outletnorthface.com were still up and running (polo4sale.com had been taken down), with retail prices slashed 50 to 60%.<br />
<br />
Polo and The North Face have been able to trace some of the defendant's assets through purchases made in U.S. dollars. The plaintiffs are striking back in court by seeking $2 million for each counterfeit mark and $250,000 per infringing name. <br />
<br />
The accused counterfeiter also allegedly sells other designer brands including <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/04/marion-cotillard-sings-franz-ferdinand-in-lady-dior-film/" target="_blank">Dior</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/12/17/louis-vuitton-drops-sneaker-after-new-balance-lawsuit/" target="_blank">Louis Vuitton</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/17/jwoww-from-jersey-shore-tells-us-about-her-ed-hardy-inspired-clothing-line/" target="_blank">Ed Hardy</a>, and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/17/mary-j-blige-alicia-keys-and-serena-williams-party-with-gucci/" target="_blank">Gucci</a>, but no word yet if more companies will join the legal fray.<br />
<br />
Designer brands are hitting back hard at counterfeit dealers. Recently, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/22/burlington-coat-factory-ordered-to-pay-fendi-4-7-million-in-law/" target="_blank">Fendi scored a whopping $4.7 million win</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/19/polo-ralph-lauren-and-the-north-face-take-on-alleged-china-based-conterfeit-ring/">Polo Ralph Lauren and The North Face Take On Alleged China-Based Online Counterfeit Ring</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Fri, 19 Mar 2010 18:30:00 EST. <p>Before you shop a la Paris Hilton, consider these tips for renewing your spring wardrobe. Photo: EMMANUEL DUNAND/AFP/Getty Images</p>
</div>
</div>
It's time for that twice yearly seasonal swap-out, when summer clothes replace winter ones and your wardrobe is due some <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/tag/spring2010">spring</a> cleaning. But this year, don't splurge on a slew of new pieces. Instead, follow the Three Rs, a canny system devised by celebrity stylists <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/04/oscars-2010-blochbuster-with-style-expert-phillip-bloch-celeb-brow-wow/">Phillip Bloch</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/12/09/ugly-christmas-sweaters-and-bad-holiday-outfits/">Elle Werlin</a> to reinvigorate your wardrobe in a thrifty, budget-conscious way: recycle, repair &amp; renew. Follow this three-point plan twice yearly and your wardrobe will both cost less <em>and</em> last longer. <br />
<br />
<strong>RECYCLE </strong>
<ul>
    <li>First, assess everything in your summer wardrobe for its recycling potential including older pieces that can be revived with a few on-trend tweaks. "Take a cute little jacket and throw some bigger shoulder pads into it right now, and you'll instantly make it more 'fashion'," says Bloch.</li>
    <li>Bloch also suggests a few well-placed studs or beads on an old leather piece; again, focusing on the shoulders. "We're seeing a lot of studding and beading, so get out the bedazzler - but don't get carried away," he laughs. In the same glitzy trend, swap old buttons for glammier new ones - rhinestones are ideal - and so snazz up an old shirt; or even add a strip of rhinestones down the side of a pant (Bloch says strips like these shouldn't cost more than a couple of bucks from a craft store).</li>
    <li>Werlin's thrilled the boho trend is returning, and suggests unearthing those <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/13/sienna-miller-and-sister-savannah-inspired-by-kate-moss/">Sienna Miller</a>-inspired skirts and slashing the length for a skin-baring summer. "You want to get a little more sexy, so shorten them to mini skirts - short skirts are in this season," she says. Repurpose ripped or torn shirts and pants with patches to channel the same shabby chic.</li>
    <li>If you're thrifty, but far from crafty, don't worry. Werlin has a tip to finding the best sewing pros in your 'hood. Her own trick, stuck on the road for shoots and in need of savvy help in a new city, is to march into an upscale independent boutique and ask the owner for his or her recommendations. They might offer to handle the alterations on your behalf; if not, do as Werlin does, and scout a few sites in person. Tailors usually share a storefront with dry cleaners. "So always ask if they dry clean leather, and if they have a fur storage area," she explains, "Then they're more of a high-end."</li>
</ul>
<strong>REPAIR </strong><br />
<ul>
    <li>The next step is deciding what's worth repairing in your wardrobe - whether spring-summer faves or soon-to-be-stored winter staples. Bloch always makes do and mends his leather goods, from belts to shoes. Werlin, too, cherishes her sandals and suggests resoling not just each season, but before a pair is ever worn. "That's the key for keeping shoes forever. Nowadays, the soles are really thin and not equipped for city walking."</li>
    <li>Big-ticket treats are always worth darning, especially cashmere. "I have a whole bag of cashmere things ready for reweaving," Bloch confesses. He regularly salvages ripped or torn garments by sending them for invisible mending.</li>

    <p>A watercolor print dress like this Cynthia Rowley frock is a great addition to your spring wardrobe. Photo: Slaven Vlasic, Getty Images</p>
    </div>
    </div>
    <li>Add a local cobbler and a crack reweaver to the list of pros to keep on hand. The latter's a dying skill, but one still practiced by a few nimble-fingered vets across the country, like <a href="http://www.thefrenchreweavers.com/">The French Re-Weavers</a> in San Jose, Calif., or the <a href="http://nymag.com/urban/guides/bestofny/services/02/reweaving.htm">French American Reweaving</a> in New York. The latter is a favorite of every high end showroom and also accepts garments for repair by mail. The operation is so old school there's no website - call 212-765-4670 for details; prices start around $40.</li>
    <li>While you're resoling and reweaving summer clothes, prep your winter staples for storage. Neither stylist will ever stash clothes damaged or unwashed: it's the body oils in dirty fabrics that moths love to munch on (and keep those reweavers in business). Though Bloch dry cleans almost anything - jeans stay crisp and last longer that way, he guarantees - he also handwashes his knits in a gentle detergent like Woolite twice a year, at the beginning and end of each season. "I'm not a big sweater, but under the arm? Dry cleaning does not necessarily clean things that great."</li>
    <li>Store jackets, shirts, and pants on professional wooden hangers, like the <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70078934">bargain style from IKEA</a> that's $4.49 for 8. Werlin protects everything in garment bags, too. "Clothes do need to breathe, especially leather, so store that in a cloth garment bag," she suggests. For a bargain, buy them in bulk from the stylist supply store, <a href="http://www.travelautobag.com">Travel Auto Bag</a> - go in with a few friends and split an order.</li>
</ul>
<strong>RENEW </strong><br />
<ul>
    <li>The final step in wardrobe renovation, after recycling and repairing, is to add a few cheap on-trend treats: no more than three key pieces, best found in the bargain racks and sites of <a href="http://www.hm.com">H&amp;M</a>, <a href="http://www.forever21.com">Forever 21,</a> and <a href="http://www.topshop.com">Top Shop</a>. Bloch suggests an "asymmetrical something - a great one shoulder dress or top," and a statement accessory, whether it's a chunky necklace or wide belt. The last addition should be "a cashmere-mix T shirt, long-sleeved, that's great for the evening," says Bloch. "There were strapless dresses over these on the runway at BCBG. We've had a lot of global warming in fashion lately and you can't tell what season the clothes are."</li>
    <li>Werlin's trio of treats is different: something splashy and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/13/trendlette-watercolor-prints/">printed</a>, be it minidress, skirt or shirt. "And something with a military vibe, whether a button-down shirt in an army green or a pair of slouchy khaki shorts," she recommends. And for another boho touch, some lingerie-as-outerwear. "Maybe even a bra that you can see through or show with a button-down."</li>

<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2008/09/28/jeremy-scott-for-adidas-originals-by-originals/"> <br />
Adidas Originals</a> was thinking girl power -- and no, not the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/08/spice-girls-geri-halliwell/">Spice Girls</a> kind -- for its Spring 2010 campaign. <br />
<br />
So, the athletic streetwear label tapped a bevy of diverse girls -- including <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/27/agyness-deyn-reportedly-launching-online-magazine-naag-com/">model-turned-designer-turned-possible-fashion-editor-turned-actress Agyness Deyn</a> -- who filmed each other for an interactive lookbook and a video. <br />
<br />
Joining the multihyphenate Deyn on the casting call: singer <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/28/ciara-beauty-secrets-and-drugstore-favorites/">Ciara</a>, reality star <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/11/whitney-ports-zeno-deal-lady-gagas-pearl-face/">Whitney Port</a>, pro tennis player <a target="_blank" href="http://www.anaivanovic.com/">Ana Ivanovic</a>, former Cheetah Girl <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/05/29/from-disney-princess-to-mtv-host-with-14-kt-toes/">Adrienne Bailon</a>, model <a target="_blank" href="http://nymag.com/fashion/models/tmorton/tallulahmorton/">Tallulah Morton</a>, British TV host <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/07/piperlime-new-blog-lets-you-sample-some-fresh-juice/">Louise Roe</a>, and singers <a target="_blank" href="http://www.myspace.com/chanyeeching">Cheer Chen</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.hyori-lee.com/">Hyori Lee</a>.<br />
<br />
In a cool bit of technology know-how, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.adidas.com/ORIGINALS/us/">Adidas Originals</a> launched the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.adidas.com/originals/us/#/content/womenslookbook">interactive look book on its site</a> by allowing viewers to use their mouse to "grab" bits of the film reel to view different models.<br />
<br />
The outfits worn by each girl are then linked to details of the styles. <br />
<br />
As for the video (above), dancing around and getting paid must always be fun. <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/03/agyness-deyn-feathered-lashes/">Aggy</a> is ever the cool girl in a rhinestone-embellished football jersey with biker shorts, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/22/jeremy-scott-fashion-week-fall-2010-runway-review/">Jeremy Scott</a> for Adidas Originals high-tops, and her signature jet-black <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/12/the-bowl-cut-celebs-sport-retro-haircut-for-spring/">bowl cut</a>, while <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/01/ciaras-nude-lips-natural-makeup-look/">Ciara</a> shows some serious leg yet still manages to look classy in an oversized striped sweatshirt with <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/16/fashion-week-trendlette-cutouts-spring-2010/">cutouts</a> (worn as a minidress).<br />
<br />
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/12/11/whitney-port-dazzles-in-tacori-jewelry-talks-to-stylelist-about/"> Whitney Port</a>'s flowery getup, called the "Fafi All-in-One-Suit," was another matter. It might have worked on an edgier muse, but does a silk onesie on "<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/05/the-city-whitney-port-and-roxy-olin-in-red-lipstick-side-br/">The City</a>" star smack of the next <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/04/snuggle-suit-keeps-the-snuggie-trend-alive/">Snuggie incarnation</a> or is it just us? <br />
<br />
Adidas Originals isn't just for the girls. The brand tapped soccer stud <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/17/david-beckham-in-adidas-originals-star-wars-film/">David Beckham and rapper Snoop Dogg for a "Star Wars"-inspired video.</a>'<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/19/agyness-deyn-ciara-whitney-port-and-adrienne-bailon-for-adidas-originals/">Agyness Deyn, Ciara, Whitney Port, and Adrienne Bailon for Adidas Originals</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Fri, 19 Mar 2010 18:15:00 EST. New mom <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/11/baby-bumps-pregnant-celebrities-padma-lakshmi/" target="_blank">Padma Lakshmi</a> made her first post-pregnancy public appearance at the March 18 launch of <a href="http://www.pampers.com/en_US/proddetail/baby-products/new-baby-diapers-swaddlers/id/900826/sectionid/0" target="_blank">Pampers Dry Max Diapers</a> in New York City, where the "<a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/11/padma-lakshmi-jewelry-the-top-chef-star-peels-off-her-clothe/" target="_blank">Top Chef</a>" host revealed her secret to getting back into top-notch form. <br />
<br />
"Keep your <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2006/07/30/heidi-klum-will-make-maternity-jeans/" target="_blank">maternity jeans</a> on," Lakshmi, who delivered daughter <a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20346013,00.html" target="_blank">Krishna</a> just three weeks ago, told <a target="_blank" href="http://stylelist.com">StyleList</a> as she pulled up her blouse to show off the elastic waist. <br />
<br />
"They are so comfortable. I don't want to go back to wearing regular jeans." She added, "I'm into my regular [size] shoes and my regular blazers, but that's about it. But it's worth it -- having her is joyous." <br />
<br />
Lakshmi admitted to still having 20 pounds to lose, which is not so foreign to her. <br />
<br />
"Because of my job, I'm used to yo-yoing with my weight," she said, adding that after filming "<a href="http://www.bravotv.com/top-chef" target="_blank">Top Chef</a>," her scale usually reports an additional 15 pounds. With season 7 set to start filming in Washington, D.C., next month, Lakshmi does have some apprehensions. <br />
<br />
"I'm just scared because I've got 20 pounds on me," she said. "If I put on 15 more..." (Um, we don't see what else she has to lose!)<br />
<br />
Whatever her size, Padma always manages to maintain her unique style, even during her pregnancy. "I had a few dresses I bought in bigger sizes that were in jersey, so they had a little bit of stretch to them," she said. "I just wore those." <br />
<br />
She also swore off the traditional silhouette for moms-to-be, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2006/09/25/trend-radar-the-empire-waist/" target="_blank">the Empire waist</a>. "I do have a few Empire-waist minidresses I liked when I wasn't pregnant, but I didn't want to wear them when I was pregnant because they were tent-y," she admitted.<br />

With warm weather hitting the U.S. coast to coast, spring fever is in full effect.<br />
<br />
And to mark the occasion, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/21/barnes-and-noble-nook-covers-designer/">Kate Spade</a> is showing off its new <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/01/the-best-and-wildest-looks-from-spring-2010-couture/">Spring 2010</a> ad campaign, plus doling out a sweet seasonal treat for folks in New York City. <br />
<br />
"Live Colorfully" is the theme of the new ads featuring a <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/01/j-crew-spring-catalog-first-look-with-jenna-lyons/">preppy Americana</a> aesthetic -- with a splash of wit -- which has been the hallmark of the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/08/the-heart-truth-fashionable-factoids/">Kate Spade</a> brand for 17 years strong. <br />
<br />
One set of campaign images depicts a retro-tinged road trip starring a perfectly dressed, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/07/sale-rack-ralph-lauren-bath-and-body-works-and-kate-spade/">Kate Spade</a>-styled brunette (in a waist-cinching polka dot dress and strappy red heels) hanging out by (and on) a slightly less fashionable mustard-colored car parked at the beach.<br />
<br />
The other image, which is also accompanied by a whimsical video on <a target="_blank" href="http://katespade.com">KateSpade.com</a>, shows a pastel-hued scene with a model carrying a pinwheel in front of a fence decorated with hundreds of the whirling wind-catchers. <br />
<br />
If those pinwheels -- which show up in all of the Spring 2010 ads -- make you twinge with nostalgia, you'll be happy to hear that the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/23/sale-rack-kate-spade-gap-and-ann-taylor/">Kate Spade</a> crew is giving away the classic childhood toy in New York City this weekend.<br />
<br />
Each pinwheel contains a 15% off coupon, so you can stock up on full-price <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/05/liz-claiborne-loses-90-million-in-turnaround/">Kate Spade</a> classics at a discount. <br />
<br />
New Yorkers should make note of the following dates and locations if they want to get in on the springtime pinwheel action: <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2008/11/20/obessed-with-chanel-or-kate-spade-tip-of-the-day/">Kate Spade</a> SoHo (March 20 and 21, from 11am-5pm); and <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/01/sale-rack-kate-spade-bag-talbots-jacket-and-dkny-dress/">Kate Spade</a> Union Square (March 27 and 28, 11am-5pm).<br />

Today we're launching a new feature, The Weekender, aimed at equipping you with outfit inspiration for Saturday and Sunday fun time. Heading to a <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/21/net-a-porter-unveils-wedding-boutique-and-temperley-wedding-dress/">wedding</a>? Got you covered! City break with the new boyfriend? On it. <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/22/diy-design-go-flea-marketing-for-vintage-redos/">Thrifting</a> with your best bud? Check. <br />
<br />
This week we're focusing on that most esteemed mid-March tradition: <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/tag/spring2010">SPRING</a> BREAK! <br />
<br />
Right now, millions of college kids are stripping down and making bad decisions from Florida all the way down to Canc&uacute;n. Whether you're honing your beer pong skills or reminiscing about the days when Downtown Julie Brown was on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/">MTV</a>, there is something appealing about throwing caution to the wind, slipping into a <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/12/kim-kardashian-and-reggie-bush-bikini-photos/">bikini</a>, and escaping those last throes of winter.<br />
<br />
Here are some suggestions for a carefree uniform to channel that youthful beachy look. Mix up some <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/01/americas-most-stylish-blogger-trang-huyen-how-to-mix-prints-f/">patterns</a>, throw on a <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/25/liberty-of-london-for-target-sneak-peek/">romper</a>, and don't forget your flask!<br />

<p>Time for another round of "<a target="_blank" href="http://television.aol.com/show/judge-judy/51292/main">Judge Judy</a>: Fashion Edition."</p>
<p>A former store manager at <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/17/lara-stone-prada-infusion-diris/">Prada</a> Japan is <a target="_blank" href="http://www.wwd.com/business-news/former-manger-sues-prada-japan-for-discrimination-3004580?module=today&amp;browsets=340621691520">pursuing her discrimination and harassment case</a> against the Italian fashion house's Japanese subsidiary by filing a lawsuit today, WWD reports.</p>
<p>Rina Bovrisse, who worked as a senior retail manager, claims that <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/25/prada-spring-2010-runway-beauty/">Prada</a> Japan chief executive Davide Sesia ordered her to fire 15 managers and 15 retail staffers on the basis that they were overweight and unattractive, according to the paper.</p>
<p>Today's lawsuit filing comes after Bovrisse's complaint with the Tokyo District Court was reportedly dismissed earlier this week and her employment was subsequently terminated. <br />
<br />
Because a settlement was not agreed upon, Bovrisse reportedly says that she is free to pursue her case in court.</p>
<p>"You can't stop people suing you," a Milan-based <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/14/prada-temporary-lay-offs/">Prada</a> spokesman told WWD. "We are very serene and we'll fight back in the appropriate way."</p>
<p>(What does that mean? They'll yoga her to death?)</p>
<p>Bovrisse's original complaint charged that <a target="_blank" href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/15/prada-store-manager-claim_n_499023.html">Sesia wanted to fire employees he deemed "old, fat, ugly, disgusting or not having the Prada look,"</a> the Huffington Post previously reported.</p>
<p>She also claims that Sesia demanded that she lose weight and change her hairstyle.</p>
<p>After his visit, 13 employees were reportedly transferred while most of the rest quit. Bovrisse, meanwhile, went on involuntary leave to pursue her case (but, as noted above, has since been fired).</p>
<p>"The level of harassment is beyond human understanding," the Huffington Post quotes Bovrisse as saying. "My responsibility is to protect hard-working women and make sure their working environment is safe."</p>
<p><a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/27/milan-fashion-week-fall-2010-trends/">Prada</a> Japan isn't the only fashion fixture to face charges of discrimination based on its employees' appearance. As we previously reported, a <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/17/abercrombie-and-fitch-must-pay-for-harassing-former-employee/">former Abercrombie &amp; Fitch employee won a settlement</a> from the brand after accusing them of harassment over her prosthetic arm. <br />
<br />
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/16/beyonce-sasha%20fierce-abercrombie-and-fitch-lawsuit/">Abercrombie &amp; Fitch</a> is currently fighting a lawsuit from an ex-worker who says she was fired for not removing her <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/23/iranian-police-crack-down-on-curvy-mannequins/">Muslim headscarf</a>, Time reports.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, read about this <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/17/star-wars-fan-wins-apology-after-being-thrown-out-of-job-center-for-wearing-jedi-hood/">"Jedi" who got kicked out of a job center for wearing a hood</a>.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/19/prada-japan-sued-for-alleged-discrimination-against-old-fat-ugly-employees/">Prada Japan Sued for Alleged Discrimination Against 'Old, Fat, Ugly' Employees</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Fri, 19 Mar 2010 14:04:00 EST. <p>Panic on the streets of <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/23/jaeger-london-a-w-2010-backstage-at-london-fashion-week/" target="_blank">London</a>!</p>
<p>Britain is licking its wounds after a <a href="http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2897651/Brits-have-no-fashion-sense.html" target="_blank">new poll deemed it the worst-dressed country in Europe</a>, The Sun reports.</p>
<p>This is <em>so</em> <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2007/07/05/helena-bonham-carter-carries-furry-intestine-bag-at-harry-potter/" target="_blank">Helena Bonham Carter</a>'s fault.</p>
<p>To pour salt on the wound, the <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2007/08/29/posh-spice-says-brits-more-fasionable-than-americans/" target="_blank">Brits</a> "won" the title with a whopping 44 percent of the vote, according to the paper.</p>
<p>The poll -- which was conducted by shopping Website <a href="http://www.ciao.co.uk" target="_blank">Ciao</a> and surveyed voters in seven European countries -- reportedly named <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2008/06/25/giorgio-says-italians-are-too-scraggly/" target="_blank">Italy</a> the best-dressed nation (shocker), with only three percent saying it had bad sartorial sense.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/24/sag-awards-2010-diane-kruger-michelle-williams-mustard-yellow-dress/" target="_blank">Germans</a>, meanwhile, weren't so lucky, with 33 percent calling them out for crimes of fashion, The Sun reports.</p>
<p>But those lederhosen still managed to beat out the garb worn by <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/06/Brits-keep-old-jeans-40-years/" target="_blank">Brits</a>.</p>
<p>"The contribution that Brits have made to the fashion scene over the years includes icons like <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/08/vivienne-westwood-attacked-with-flying-cat-at-her-paris-fashion-show/" target="_blank">Vivienne Westwood</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/01/kate-moss-to-be-ballerina-in-short-film-with-mikhail-baryshnikov/" target="_blank">Kate Moss</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/17/alexander-mcqueen-41st-birthday-designers-remember/" target="_blank">Alexander McQueen</a>," Ciao director Tom Hyde told the paper.</p>
<p>"We were shocked to discover that Britain is seen as the <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/07/oscars-2010-best-dressed-worst-dressed/" target="_blank">worst-dressed</a> nation in Europe."</p>
<p>The poll reportedly suggested that the Brits' love for budget fashion could be to blame.</p>
<p>"The Primani habit has led Brits to sartorial disaster," Hyde told the paper, referring to a slang nickname for the low-priced UK chain <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2008/06/30/primark-finally-wises-up/" target="_blank">Primark</a>.</p>
<p>According to the survey, 85 percent of British shoppers spend the least amount of money on their wardrobes -- less than &pound;100 (about $160) a month.</p>
<p>By contrast, Germans spend about &pound;200 per month and the <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/05/sally-hershberger-predicts-penelope-cruz-for-best-oscars-2010-ha/" target="_blank">Spanish</a> fork out more than &pound;500, the survey found.</p>
<p>Brits were also seen to have their <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/category/accessories">accessory</a> priorities out of whack, with 29 percent calling <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/15/madonna-launching-mdg-sunglasses-with-dolce-and-gabbana/" target="_blank">sunglasses</a> their most important accessory, and just 11 percent of British women reportedly seeing their <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/12/matthew-williamson-and-bulgari-team-up-for-handbag-collection/" target="_blank">handbags</a> as a fashion statement rather than a necessity.</p>
<p>This coming from the country that gave us this season's red-hot <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/07/alexa-chung-inspires-mulberry-alexa-bag/" target="_blank">Mulberry Alexa bag</a>? For shame!</p>

Put 'em away, love! <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/09/katherine-heigl-hair-blonde-brown-dark/">Katherine Heigl</a> pulled a <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/19/whitney-houston-wardrobe-malfunction-on-x-factor/">Whitney Houston</a> at Las Vegas' ShoWest Awards as the strap of her red dress snapped (almost revealing her little Izzies) as she gave her acceptance speech. Good thing she has 26 more to choose from.<br />

"<a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/29/americas-next-top-model-winner-nicole-fox-will-not-be-in-alexander-mcqueen-ad-campaign/" target="_blank">America's Next Top Model</a>" got a boost from fashion's elite quarters as <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/25/vogue-launches-free-iphone-app-vogue-stylist/">Vogue</a> editor-at-large <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/01/10/anna-wintour-and-andre-leon-talley-ringtones-vogue-tones/">Andr&eacute; Leon Talley</a> made his debut as a permanent judge for cycle 14 of <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/26/tyra-banks-announces-plus-size-teen-model-search/">Tyra Banks</a>' long-running <a target="_blank" href="http://www.cwtv.com/shows/americas-next-top-model14/cast/">CW network modeling competition</a>.<br />
<br />
<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/18/the-september-issue-director-r-j-cutler-talks-dvd-bonus-scenes-anna-wintour-grace-coddington-andre-leon-talley/">Talley</a> added his commanding presence to the judge's platform, taking over the seat formerly occupied by runway coach <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/14/americas-next-top-model-j-alexander-season-13/" target="_blank">Miss J Alexander</a>. <br />
<br />
Full of fashionable flourishes, the industry icon seemed to have his fellow judges -- including <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/12/28/tyra-banks-quits-her-talk-show-big-screen-awaits/">Banks</a> -- under his enigmatic spell.<br />
<br />
The newly svelte Banks introduced <a target="_blank" href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/01/andre-leon-talley-and-who_n_480581.html">Talley</a> to the contestants, telling them he's a fashion legend whose influence extends "from here to <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/27/milan-fashion-week-fall-2010-trends/" target="_blank">Milan</a> to <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/tag/Tokyo+Nail+Expo+2009/" target="_blank">Tokyo</a> to <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/22/london-fashion-week-fall-2010-rundown/" target="_blank">London</a> and beyond." In other words: He's <em>the</em> man, make a top-model impression.<br />
<br />
And <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/26/breaking-news-andre-leon-talley-loves-the-golden-girls-topsh/">Talley</a> -- who claimed he has never watched "<a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/18/tyra-banks-apologizes-over-bi-racial-episode-of-antm/">ANTM</a>" before -- made it clear his influence would be potent. <br />
<br />
Wearing a dark robe and a horn on a chain around his neck, he spared 18-year-old foul-mouthed <a target="_blank" href="http://www.cwtv.com/shows/americas-next-top-model14/cast/alasia">Alasia</a> from a trip to the chopping block by declaring he would buy her first backside-exposing portfolio photo "in a gallery and hang it in my salon." <br />
<br />
"Salon" was said with great effect, and Talley explained that it was a room where he might engage in great social discourse. <br />
<br />
"Because he wants to hang it in his salon," <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/04/tyra-banks-loses-30-pounds-diet-weight-loss/">Banks</a> told the model, "you are not going home." <br />
<br />
And we thought Talley's boss, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/23/carey-mulligan-rejects-anna-wintour-oscars-dress-advice/">Anna Wintour</a>, had power and influence!<br />
<br />
Talley critiqued another aspiring model's premiere pose by telling her, "You remind me of a 19th-century courtesan used to big rings and big men." <br />
<br />
And when a model innocently exposed, um, way too much, he said, "You almost gave us a telescopic look into your nether regions, but you did it like a lady." <br />
<br />
And to a model draped only in a bright scarf he declared, "My dear, if that were a <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/07/dior-ad-campaign-stars-17-year-old-karlie-kloss/" target="_blank">Dior</a> foulard, I would go out and buy it." <br />
<br />
By the end of his first night, Talley already had his fellow judges repeating his catchphrase "dreckitude" to describe contestants whose poses were, in his words, "a mess, a wreck." <br />
<br />
And the audience learned that getting the "dreckitude" moniker was killer news, indeed. <br />
<br />
So it was for <a target="_blank" href="http://www.cwtv.com/shows/americas-next-top-model14/cast/naduah">Naduah</a>, a full-time mother with a <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/11/bald-women-trend-would-you-ever/" target="_blank">shaved head</a> and great cheekbones, who is no longer in the running to be "America's Next Top Model." <br />
<br />
Talley was not the only fashion powerhouse to check in for the second episode. (The show premiered last week, but judging didn't take place until this week.)<br />
<br />
Designer <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/27/jessica-stam-designing-capsule-collection-with-rachel-roy-for-macys/">Rachel Roy</a> contributed her fashions to a runway show and her expertise as a guest judge, as did celebrity hairstylist <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/05/sally-hershberger-to-launch-salon-styling-line-on-hsn/">Sally Hershberger</a>.<br />
<br />
Did Talley's boss and confidante tune in for his big debut? Unlikely, he told "<a target="_blank" href="http://nymag.com/daily/fashion/2010/03/this_interview_will_make_up_fo.html">The Cut</a>." As far as he knows, Wintour doesn't own a television; he's never seen her watch one.<br />
<br />

<p>The <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/24/vogue-italia-launches-vogue-curvy-currently-starring-plus-size-models/" target="_blank">red-hot curvy-girl revolution</a> is taking a major wallop thanks to a new study claiming that <a href="http://asunews.asu.edu/20100316_business_admodelsize" target="_blank">ads featuring plus-size models make women suffer from lower self-esteem</a>, ASU News reports.</p>
<p>Since when did <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/20/kate-moss-apologizes-for-skinny-comment-sort-of/" target="_blank">Kate Moss</a> get her PhD?</p>
<p>The study, conducted by <a href="http://www.asu.edu" target="_blank">Arizona State University</a>, Germany's <a href="http://www.uni-koeln.de" target="_blank">University of Cologne</a>, and <a href="http://www.eur.nl/english/" target="_blank">Erasmus University</a> in the Netherlands, measured the effect that <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/08/karl-lagerfeld-changes-tune-and-shoots-plus-size-performer-for-v/" target="_blank">larger models</a> have on female consumers of various sizes and found that <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/12/do-you-have-the-perfect-hourglass-figure/" target="_blank">curvy bodies</a> make women with normal and high body-mass indexes (BMIs) depressed, according to the paper.<br />
<br />
And that news has plus-size model <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/22/crystal-renn-talks-mark-fast-show-gemma-ward-weight-and-whether-plus-size-models-are-a-trend/" target="_blank">Crystal Renn</a> (aka <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/10/crystal-renn-to-star-alongside-alessandra-ambrosio-and-brooklyn-decker-glamour-magazine-cover/" target="_blank">Glamour's upcoming cover girl</a>) fighting mad. "I think one-standard beauty is going to make women have lower self-esteem," she tells <a href="http://www.stylelist.com" target="_blank">StyleList</a> in an exclusive interview.</p>
<p>Picking up from previous studies showing that <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2006/09/14/models-turned-away-from-catwalks-as-too-skinny/" target="_blank">underweight models</a> have a negative impact on women's self-esteem, the research team reportedly factored in the size of the consumer as well.</p>
<p>"We show it is not just the size of the models in the ads, but also the relative distance between the consumer's size and the model's size that affects self-esteem," Naomi Mandel, marketing associate professor at ASU's W.P. Carey School of Business, told the paper.</p>
<p>While consumers were still negatively influenced by <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/19/miranda-kerr-blames-shockingly-thin-photos-on-poses-in-grazia/" target="_blank">stick-thin models</a>, participants also reportedly experienced low self-esteem when shown ads depicting <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/26/bravissimo-casts-curvy-customers-in-sexy-lingerie-ad-campaign/" target="_blank">fuller-figured models</a>.</p>
<p>Curvier women with high BMIs experienced a dip in self-esteem while looking at both thin and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/21/australias-next-top-model-judge-disses-plus-size-models/" target="_blank">plus-size models</a>, because they saw themselves as different from the thin, "perfect" types and similar to the overweight ones, the paper reports.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, those with normal BMIs reportedly reacted strongly to the ads, feeling good when looking at a thin model they related to, then getting down when looking at a <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/14/naked-plus-size-model-jennie-runk-glamour-photo-shoot/" target="_blank">larger model</a> because they worried about being similar and being overweight.</p>
<p>By contrast, thin, low-BMI women had no negative impact, because they identified with the slim models and saw themselves as different from the plus-size models, according to the study.</p>
<p>The conclusion? Ad campaigns with <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/17/christina-hendricks-talks-body-image-and-being-self-conscious/" target="_blank">voluptuous models</a> are a big bust because, presumably, no one will want to buy something advertised by an average-sized woman who has you staring at the bottom of a pint of Ben &amp; Jerry's while listening to <a href="http://music.aol.com/artist/joy-division " target="_blank">Joy Division</a>.</p>
<p>"We believe it is unlikely that many brands will gain market share by using heavy models in their ads," Mandel told the paper.</p>
<p>"We found that overweight consumers demonstrated lower self-esteem -- and therefore probably less enthusiasm about buying products -- after exposure to any-size models in ads [versus ads with no models].</p>
<p>"Also, normal-weight consumers experienced lower self-esteem after exposure to moderately heavy models, such as those in <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2008/05/08/doves-campaign-for-real-beauty-was-photoshopped/" target="_blank">Dove soap's Real Women campaign</a>, than after exposure to moderately thin models."</p>
<p>The kicker? The study, which will be published in April's <a href="http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/toc/jcr/current?cookieSet=1" target="_blank">Journal of Consumer Research</a>, reportedly claims that <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/12/14/v-magazine-to-feature-plus-size-models-photographed-by-karl-lage/" target="_blank">plus-size models</a> could be effective if used in ads for -- wait for it -- gyms or diet pills. Because, you know, then normal-size gals will be so horrified and worried about getting fat that they'll hightail it to the nearest <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/15/weight-watchers-floor-collapses-during-weigh-in/" target="_blank">Weight Watchers</a>.</p>
<p>Well, screw that.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/12/22/plus-size-model-crystal-renn-rocks-v-magazines-size-issue/" target="_blank">Renn</a>, whose <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/02/glamour-naked-plus-sized-models-scarlett-johansson/" target="_blank">"nude" Glamour shoot with other plus-size models</a> garnered <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/01/victoria-beckham-plays-sweet-and-sexy-housewife-in-glamour/" target="_blank">the publication</a>'s most positive feedback ever, says fashion magazines and advertisers should represent <em>all</em> body types that everyone can relate to, and sees the recent trend in size diversity as a step in the right direction. <br />
<br />
"Women are hungry for this," she tells <a target="_blank" href="http://stylelist.com">StyleList</a>. "They are empowered by this."</p>
<p>Call us crazy, but we love seeing curvy figures on the runway and on billboards. They don't make us feel bad about ourselves -- they make us feel bad about the other fashion brands and advertisers that think that <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/15/plus-size-mannequins-hit-the-floor-of-australias-myer-department-store/" target="_blank">curvy women</a> can't be sexy.</p>
<p>And judging by the success of size-friendly brands like <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/07/mark-fast-designs-faster-a-lower-priced-line-not-for-lady-gaga/" target="_blank">Mark Fast</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/28/evans-new-ad-campaign-stars-plus-size-models-in-vogue-inspired-photo-shoot/" target="_blank">Evans</a>, we're not the only ones who feel that way.</p>
<p>Exhibit A: British department store <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/26/debenhams-featuring-wheelchair-bound-model-in-new-fashion-ad-campaign/" target="_blank">Debenhams</a> tells <a target="_blank" href="http://stylelist.com">StyleList</a> they've received initial positive feedback to the <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/19/debenhams-debuts-size-16-plus-size-mannequins-to-reflect-average-woman/" target="_blank">curvier mannequins</a> they're currently road-testing in the Oxford Street store.<br />
<br />
Exhibit B: A separate study we previously reported on that says <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/25/curvy-female-bodies-get-men-high-sorry-kate-moss/" target="_blank">curvy female bodies give men a high</a>. So, men get a high but woman want to jump off a cliff? Hmm...</p>
<p>And should we bother pointing out that high-BMI women reacted negatively to ultra-thin models? Should we ban them, too? Fair is fair, right?</p>
<p>Meanwhile, check out the <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/04/giles-runway-ruled-by-voluptuous-victorias-secret-models/" target="_blank">voluptuous models that ruled the Giles runway</a>.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/18/plus-size-models-in-ads-cause-low-self-esteem-study-claims/">Plus-Size Models in Ads Cause Low Self-Esteem, Study Claims</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.stylelist.com">StyleList</a> on Thu, 18 Mar 2010 19:03:00 EST. It looks like former first lady <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/29/hillary-clinton-loses-her-shoe-saved-by-french-president-nicolas-sarkozy/" target="_blank">Hillary Rodham Clinton</a> might be taking a page from <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/05/michelle-obama-donating-jason-wu-inaugural-gown-to-smithsonian/" target="_blank">Michelle Obama</a>'s style book.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.state.gov/secretary/" target="_blank">U.S. secretary of state</a> appears to have finally ditched her signature <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/18/hillary-clintons-headband-a-return-to-her-nineties-hair-acces/" target="_blank">headbands</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/12/07/hillary-clinton-prom-dress-flashback/" target="_blank">prom-worthy</a> dresses in favor of a more sophisticated look. <br />
<br />
Sporting a <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/08/05/hillary-clintons-new-hairstyle/" target="_blank">poufier new 'do</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/08/hillary-clinton-says-she-and-chelsea-still-looking-for-wedding-dresses/" target="_blank">Hillary</a> has been playing with whimsical patterns and textures, taking fashion risks (need we remind you of the <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/18/hillary-clinton-channels-her-inner-flower-child-in-a-questionabl/" target="_blank">embroidered flowery coat</a> she wore in Afghanistan?), and jazzing up her <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/14/women-in-the-world-summit-brings-together-diane-von-furstenberg-hillary-clinton-the-daily-beast-tina-brown-queen-rania/" target="_blank">classic skirt suit</a> with a flash of gold jewelry at the March 14 Women in the World Summit.<br />
<br />
When the Yale Law grad deplaned in Moscow this morning -- where she will push for arms talks -- HRC looked every bit the chic jet-setter in a pair of rectangular <a href="http://www.robertmarc.com/" target="_blank">Robert Marc</a> sunglasses (style 602, in Stone with brown lenses, in case you were wondering) that flattered her rounder face shape.<br />
<br />
Marc's subdued, elegant eyewear -- no flashy hardware and logos here -- has attracted a loyal celebrity fan base, including <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/03/reese-witherspoon-renee-zellweger-vera-wang-store-opening/" target="_blank">Reese Witherspoon</a>, <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/16/max-tucci-fashion-week-fall-2010-pamella-roland-vlog/" target="_blank">Nicole Kidman</a>, and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/02/kate-hudson-alex-rodriguez-weight-loss-botox-elle/" target="_blank">Kate Hudson</a>.<br />
<br />
Even if Hillary's labels don't include the big-name fashion designers that Mrs. O favors,  such as <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/09/jason-wu-woos-bergdorf-goodman/" target="_blank">Jason Wu</a>, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/25/michelle-obama-style-the-first-lady-wears-thakoon-dress-for-g2/">Thakoon</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/17/michelle-obama-adds-lwren-scott-to-wardrobe/" target="_blank">L'Wren Scott</a>, we think she makes a pretty persuasive case for understated power dressing. <br />
<br />
What do you think of Hillary's more fashion-forward style?<br />
<br />
When not tackling political issues, <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/08/hillary-clinton-says-she-and-chelsea-still-looking-for-wedding-dresses/">Hillary is busy planning daughter Chelsea's wedding</a>.<br />

It is no surprise then, that these gods of rock - and the fans who love them - are some of the best-dressed people on Sixth Street. After scouring the scene, we found the reoccurring trends were <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/22/diy-design-go-flea-marketing-for-vintage-redos/" target="_blank">vintage</a> pieces, heightened hemlines, lots of cowboy boots, and some plenty <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/12/celebrity-sunglasses-spring-2010-sunglass-styles/">cool shades</a>.

</div>
It seems the latest, sure-to-be cult-collected, allover-print jean collaboration between <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/18/proenza-schouler-collaborating-with-j-brand-on-jeans-line/" target="_blank">Proenza Schouler and J Brand</a> will be the of-the-moment denim company's last -- at least for a few seasons. <br />
<br />
<a target="_blank" href="http://stylelist.com">StyleList</a> recently caught up with <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/09/jeans-true-religion-j-brand-7-for-all-mankind/" target="_blank">J Brand</a> co-founder Jeff Rudes, and in between discussing his involvement in <a target="_blank" href="http://www.sundancechannel.com/fullfrontalfashion/video/?video=64571004001">Full Frontal Fashion</a>'s <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/03/13/dirty-denim-documentary-premium-jeans-designers-including-j-brand-chip-and-pepper-come-clean/" target="_blank">"Dirty Denim" documentary</a>, he explained <a href="http://www.jbrandjeans.com" target="_blank">J Brand</a>'s direction post-<a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/18/proenza-schouler-fashion-week-fall-2010-runway-review/" target="_blank">Proenza Schouler</a>. <br />
<br />
"We're going to drop our collaborations for a few seasons, because we want to focus on supporting young emerging designers. We are going back to Europe, and we're doing something for <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/24/house-of-holland-shows-twitter-inspired-looks-at-london-fashion-week/" target="_blank">London Fashion Week</a> that has never been done," Rudes tells <a target="_blank" href="http://stylelist.com">StyleList</a>.<br />
<br />
"I can't disclose it, but it's with multiple designers, and it's going to launch during <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/19/london-fashion-week-spring-2010-hair/" target="_blank">London Fashion Week</a>. It contributes back to London's emerging designers and the <a href="http://www.britishfashioncouncil.com" target="_blank">British Fashion Council</a>. It's going to be world news for the fashion industry.<br />
<br />
"Next on our horizon is being philanthropic, first to these young emerging designers and then tying all of these collaborations that are part of [our] revenue to philanthropic venues."<br />
<br />
Hmmm. Although Rudes was staying pretty mum on the subject, our best guess is that J Brand might be involved with an <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/13/fabiola-beracasa-with-the-ecco-domani-young-designer-winners/" target="_blank">Ecco Domani</a> or <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/11/17/sophie-theallet-wins-the-cfda-vogue-fashion-fund/" target="_blank">CFDA/Vogue Fund</a>-style competition with a denim focus. But we'll have to wait until mid-April, when the project is formally announced, to see if we're right. <br />
<br />
Still, one question remains: Why <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/09/21/london-fashion-week-spring-2010-normal-sized-models/" target="_blank">London Fashion Week</a> and not <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/22/calvin-kleins-new-york-fashion-week-after-party/" target="_blank">New York Fashion Week</a>? <br />
<br />
"We're planning to bring this back to <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/24/bloggers-now-voting-in-the-cfda/" target="_blank">CFDA</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/02/08/new-york-fashion-week-preview-fall-2010/" target="_blank">New York</a> if it works," Rudes explains. "The reason we chose London is because the best young, emerging designers today are coming out of [there] -- the <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/12/10/british-fashion-awards-honor-burberry-christopher-bailey-kate-moss/" target="_blank">Christopher Kanes</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/05/21/marios-schwab-takes-the-reins-at-halston/" target="_blank">Marios Schwabs</a>. They're being picked up by design houses, and they get a huge amount of support. We have some iconic industry friends who also agreed that London would be a good start. And the timing was right." <br />
<br />
As for the design direction of the main J Brand line, Rudes says the jeans will remain "clean and classic" in the next few seasons, and there are no plans to launch any other apparel. <br />
<br />
"A lot of jean companies have struggled entering licensing and sportswear for different reasons," he says. "But the platform and formula hasn't been wisely used. We know the model that does work, but we want to wait for the right time. We don't want to expand into other product lines too soon. We want to be very focused and be the best in <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2010/01/25/how-to-look-thin-in-skinny-jeans/" target="_blank">jeans</a>."<br />
<br />
It appears as if that mission-accomplished is accomplished -- as of right now, at least. <br />
<br />

<p>The <a target="_blank" href="http://www.esquire.com/features/tina-fey-pictures-031710">accompanying article and James White-shot photo spread</a> feature more mayhem as the "world's funniest woman," clad in her LBD and killer <a target="_blank" href="http://www.stylelist.com/2009/10/12/louboutin-barbies-ankles-too-fat/">Louboutins</a>, smears her red lipstick, ruins a dinner party, flings her cocktail in a bartender's face, holds her puking pal's hair and crashes in a laundry cart and bathtub, respectively.</p>
