Last night in New York City, Swarovski -- with the help of Leighton Meester and "The City's" Olivia Palmero -- celebrated "Gossip Girl" costume designer Eric Daman's new fashion-focused book "You Know You Want It: Style -- Inspiration -- Confidence," out December 15.

StyleList caught up with the author -- who was once an assistant stylist on "Sex and the City" -- for a quick 'Gossip'-fueled chat.

StyleList: How do you get inspired to start building the wardrobes for your characters?
Eric Daman: I'm inspired by everything that's around: a homeless lady in a fake Chanel jogging suit going through the trash, an Upper East Side woman in an amazing fox skirt, downtown kids. I really think that when women dress themselves, they should be inspired by the stuff they see everyday.

SL: How are you able to channel the teenage fashion experience shown in "Gossip Girl" so well?
ED: Well, they brought me on for a reason. I worked on "Sex and the City" but people also say I have a 16-year-old girl trapped inside of me.

I love all of the mean girl moves. I grew up around "Heathers" and that was one of my favorite movies. The producers of "Gossip Girl" knew they wanted to do something with fashion, but we didn't know how far it was going to go when we were working on the pilot.

SL: Now the characters you created -- Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen -- are icons in their own right. What's the process of styling them like?
ED: I start with a mood board and cut out anything that goes with the character. So, for Serena, she's very sexy and the sort of inspiration is Kate Moss. It's about being tousled, putting anything on and looking fabulous. But, in the end, it actually takes a lot of effort to look that way.

And Blair, she's been studying her look since she was 8-years-old, trying on lipsticks and headbands in front of a mirror. I think of Serena [Blake Lively] and Blair [Leighton Meester] like French Vogue and American Vogue [respectively]. Blair's look is old Hollywood glamour mixed with Anna Wintour's meticulousness about fashion, whereas Serena is more about having fun. She'll find a scarf in a flea market in Paris and some great jean shorts in Belize. Blair's character is more like "Oh, I saw Audrey Hepburn wear this!"

SL: Are you surprised at Blake, Leighton and the rest of the cast becoming such fashion plates?
ED: I've been with them from day one and I think I've helped them learn about fashion. They were all younger and from the West Coast and they weren't tuned into this world. I'm so proud of how they've grown up and to see Blake on the cover of W and Leighton doing a music video -- it's really amazing that they've come into their own.

SL: OK, we know you can't tell us who the mass-texting troublemaker "Gossip Girl" is, but maybe you can tell us what she might be wearing.
ED: I think of her style like an undercover Russian spy in a film noir movie -- like oversized sunglasses and a big trench coat and headscarf. But she's also a little Carrie Bradshaw sitting at home with her computer in a tank top and Calvin Klein boy shorts. It's a mix of those two worlds.

She's always been a fashion icon in our eyes, and now Barbie's got the award to prove it!

At last night's Accessories Council 13th Annual ACE Awards, Barbara Millicent Roberts (aka Barbie) was presented with the Fashion Icon of the Year award.

After the awards ceremony, the busy blonde gave StyleList an exclusive interview:

StyleList: How does it feel to be named Fashion Icon of the Year?
Barbie: I am truly honored! And to think that Diane von Furstenberg presented me with my award! She is one of my style icons!

SL: We love the Judith Leiber-designed ACE award, did you get to meet her?
Barbie: Judith and I partnered back in 2005 when we did a fabulous doll together. It was fantastic to work with her again and of course I wore my Judith Leiber purse to the Awards on the red carpet. A Judith Leiber bag is a must-have for every fashionista!

SL: What was it like having custom Louboutins made for you?
Barbie: In 50 years, I have acquired over 1 billion pairs of shoes, however, my Louboutins are by far my favorite! Christian is a fantastic designer and I loved all the time I spent with him. My custom Louboutins make me feel like the luckiest doll in the world!

SL: And what was all that talk about you having less than perfect ankles?
Barbie: I'm a doll! My ankles are only 22mm in circumference! It was all just a big misunderstanding! Christian loves my ankles -- it was my arch he wanted to give a little more "lift" so I could rock those high heels. It's all in good fashion fun!

SL: So, big news with the feature film being made about you. Who do you think should play Barbie?
Barbie: Um, me... among my many careers, I'm also an actress, of course!

As stylist for NBC's reality hit "The Biggest Loser," Liza Whitcraft has the skinny on looking good at any size. And like the show's dreaded weigh-in, her job has its highs and lows.

This season she's had the satisfying challenge of dressing Alison Sweeney after the host had her second child in May. "Every week, I had to put her in a smaller pair of jeans," says Whitcraft. "She's a size 4 now. She looks amazing."

She's also had the experience of putting contestants who were recently morbidly obese into size 6 dresses. "I have to admit, that's a fun day at the office."

Are the newly svelte shy about wearing something form-fitting after years of wearing baggy clothes to hide their girth?

"Hell no," says Whitcraft. "We usually pick big personalities for "The Biggest Loser" and they just want to go out there and show off. If anything, I have to keep them out of things that are skin tight."

Still, the stylist is charged with making all the show's contestants look trim for the season finale -- even if they're not down to their ideal weight. For that task, there is a lot of hidden help involved. Think : Spanx, elaborate bra fittings and compression T-shirts.

Here, Liza Whitcraft shares some of her behind-the-scenes slimming tricks with StyleLIst.

For curvy petites such as host Alison Sweeney:

  • Dark, boot cut jeans are your best bet. "Avoid boyfriend styles, anything tight or skinny," says Whitcraft. "Right now, for Alison, I am loving Joe's Jeans in the Petite Provocateur style. The leg break is perfect on a petite women. It adds so much height."
  • Heels rule. If you can wear a two-inch heel and be comfy, "Do it."
  • Wrap dresses are key. "I put Alison in a lot of Diane von Furstenberg. They are terribly flattering on her, but the truth is she's beautiful. She looks good in just about everything and can wear almost any color."
  • Great fitting T-shirts are key to a casual look, especially ones that don't cover too much, making you look heavier on top. "Avoid crew necks. Wear a V-neck whenever you can." She favors tees by Vince and James Perse for Sweeney.

This past weekend at Moscow's Manezh Exhibition Hall, designer Diane von Furstenberg was feted for her colorful life and career.

"Journey of Dress," an exhibition that was curated by her good friend André Leon Talley, spans 35 years and touches on everything from her first famed garment to disco days at Studio 54 to her current CFDA presidency.

In honor of the occasion, we caught up with the designer to talk art, fashion and her emotional connection to Russia.

StyleList: How did this exhibition come about?
Diane von Furstenberg: I have had two stores in Moscow for awhile and I actually haven't been over there to do PR and things like that. I knew this was going to happen in the fall. Over the summer I was with Natalia Vodianova and I said, 'Will you be there for me and come to Russia?'

She said, 'Of course, but what are you going to do?' I said, 'I'm going to do a fashion show and speak at the school of journalism.' You know, the usual things that I do. And she told me, 'But you know in Russia, people would love to know your history, your Warhols and Studio 54 and all of that.' So this is how it all happened.

SL: What can people expect?
DVF: It's going to be held in a huge state museum in Red Square with all of the original art. It's 6,000 square feet. Fashion divided by art. The dresses range from 1976 to 2007. Everything will be broken into four vignettes: Luxe, Studio 54, American Dream, and Empowerment (or Working Girl). So there will be all the fashion then artwork by Francesco Clemente, Andy Warhol...

SL: Where do keep your famous wrap dresses?
DVF: I have a huge archive in my house in Connecticut.

SL: Do you ever wear the original ones?
DVF: I personally, well you know, I'm 30 years older so...

SL: Will this become a traveling exhibition?
DVF: I think it will be. There has been interest in it from people in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Washington D.C. It all happened quite naturally, but I've never presented it in this way. My father was born in Russia back in 1929, so I'm doing this 80 years later. It's very emotional.

When Randy Fenoli, breakout star of TLC's reality hit "Say Yes to the Dress," told StyleList he didn't believe in Bridezillas we had to stop him.

Since we personally know at least three brides who grew claws and fangs while planning their nuptials, it was important to tell him we had seen the monster. She is real.

Yet by the end of a chat with Fenoli, we had almost forgiven those brides who tortured us planning their nuptials. Even the one who stuffed a certain bridesmaid into an ill-fitting Smurf blue dress.

Fenoli understands the beastie bride better than most. He began making wedding gowns after he swept a bridal design competition while an underclassman at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology.

Here, he tells us about his role as fashion director at Kleinfeld in New York -- "the" bridal emporium where "Say Yes" is filmed -- and as dress-fitting psychologist, explainging, "When a bride is getting really worked up during a fitting, I can talk her off the ledge."

StyleList: How can you say there is no such thing as a Bridezilla? You've worked with plenty on the show.
Randy Fenoli: Because I don't see a Bridezilla. I see a bride who is nervous, scared, anxious and who wants to look beautiful on her wedding day. I believe a lot of that Bridezilla behavior is caused by stress. I really do. You have women who are wearing dresses that are as close to couture as they may ever get.

They are going to be immortalized in this dress and photographed 1,000 times. It is going to influence how they are perceived. It's overwhelming and it can make you a basket case.You may see a Bridezilla. I see a women who wants to look beautiful.

SL: You are very sweet, but I still say some of your brides have been wicked.
RF: I'll give you this; if the behavior continues at the wedding they are a Bridezilla. There's no excuse for treating people badly on your wedding day. On that day you should be happy and nice to everyone. Especially the groom.

Stella McCartney was clearly in her element at the launch of her Stella McCartney for GapKids and BabyGap collections.

Last night's Halloween carnival-themed party at the Little Red School House in New York City's Greenwich Village was packed with children sporting her new collection.

And the designer seemed both relaxed and excited at the scene, which included a bouncy house, games and face painting.

"You're a little tricker," she said to a towheaded boy, as she tickled him and he erupted into laughter.

"The military jacket is sort of the star of the show," she told StyleList, surveying the several boys in the room wearing it.

"If you take it up to the larger sizes, I think we can squeeze into it. I know I'm going to," the designer admitted to us.

Shoe expert and author of "The Perfect Fit: What Your Shoes Say About You," Meghan Cleary will debut a new footwear line in collaboration with ShopNBC today (Oct. 29) as part of the channel's Beauty and Style Week.

The Miss Meghan Shoe Collection is launching with a suede 2.5-inch heel ankle bootie, available in plum, black and brown for $45.

Cleary, aka Miss Meghan, shared the magic of the bootie with StyleList.

StyleList: Why did go with the bootie for your first style?
Miss Meghan: Booties are so hot right now and I wanted to do a version that was on-trend, fun and wearable.

SL: What makes this bootie unique?
MM: A lot of ankle booties can be unflattering because of the cut of the silhouette. Mine were specifically designed to slim any size ankle or calf and give the appearance of a long line.

SL: What's next from the Miss Meghan Shoe Collection?
MM: I'll be launching a micro collection in December, which will feature ballet flats, platform pumps and shoe clips. Spring 2010 has a ton of nude in snake, croc and patent, as well as some pops of color.

Is there anything the Olsens can't do?

Mary-Kate and Ashley design The Row, consult on Elizabeth & James and are now launching Olsenboye, a new juniors collection sold exclusively at JCPenney.

They have a full-time job trying to dodge the paparazzi, and they even hand out cupcakes from the Olsenboye Treat Truck, seen here in New York City's Union Square.

At the Manhattan preview for Olsenboye, one staffer admitted, "They're the first in the office in the morning and they're the last out the door at night."

That must be why Olsenboye is so spot-on when it comes to teen trends -- these girls know their stuff.

We caught up with the stylish duo to get the DL on the new line.

"The capsule collection shows off our branding on the Olsenboye basics," Mary-Kate told StyleList.

Adding, "We have denim, flannel [and] the studded sweatshirt is a favorite. It has a street vibe."

For accessories designer Nancy Gonzalez, most trips to New York City are filled with meetings and mingling, but this month's visit to the Big Apple was particularly meaningful.

After the designer left Saks Fifth Avenue, where she debuted an exclusive new crocodile top-handle bag (available in three sizes and multiple color options), Gonzalez went to her 57th Street showroom to host an intimate cocktail reception for committee members of Casita Maria, an organization founded in 1934 that seeks to engage and empower youth by creating a culture of learning through social, cultural and educational opportunities.

Gonzalez -- who has been involved with the organization throughout the year and was honored for her commitment at the annual Casita Maria Fiesta Gala -- was on hand in the Bronx for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education.

The opening reception for the new David Yurman shop-in-shop at the Bloomingdale's 59th Street flagship in NYC included a fête which upheld the brand's philosophy of accessible luxury.

The space, inspired by modern American architecture of the mid-1900s, complemented the signature twisted silver, gemstone, and pavé diamond-adorned designs with marble flooring, striped walls and, of course, the Yurmans themselves: David, Sybil and Evan.

StyleList had the opportunity to get some face time with David Yurman, where he explained more about the new store concept, the Fall 2010 collection and his take on diffusion lines.

StyleList: How does the Bloomingdale's David Yurman in-store shop compare with your soon-to-open flagship on Madison Avenue?
David Yurman: There's no comparison, really, I should say that there are some stylistic and architectural comparisons, but when you talk about Bloomingdale's, this is a store-within-a-store. When you talk about the flagship, we have a townhouse, there's a different feeling to it.

We couldn't have come in here this quickly, it took about four months [to set up]. we had the working drawings done, and for us it was just an honest, absolute perfect position, not just in New York -- in the world!

Shoemaker to the stars Giuseppe Zanotti recently visited Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City to meet his customers face-to-face, take pictures with them and autograph the soles of their Zanotti heels.

Before one of his biggest fans Blake Lively arrived (and clusters of hyperventilating teens started gathering in the 8th Floor shoe department), StyleList got a chance to sit down with the Italian footwear designer -- who was wearing red,white and blue Nikes -- for an exclusive chat.

StyleList: You began designing shoes 25 years ago and you do hundreds of designs every season. How do you stay inspired?
Giuseppe Zanotti: When I start to design shoes, I think in terms of concepts. I write things down and I take pictures on my BlackBerry -- maybe of the leg of a chair that I like -- and send the shots to my assistants.

I don't believe in seasons and I don't design shoes like "Harry Potter" -- Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3. It's just the same woman who needs some new energy for herself.

At tonight's Denise Rich-hosted Angel Ball in New York City, celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz will be announcing the creation of the Shulamit Banjamini Sandberg Medical Research Grant, a $225,000 gift in honor of her late mother which will support cancer research by one deserving doctor over three years.

Along with the night's performances by Jennifer Hudson, Estelle and Robin Thicke, Schwartz is auctioning off a piece from her amazing collection in order to raise funds for Rich's Gabrielle Angel Foundation For Cancer Research, named after Rich's daughter who died of leukemia at the age of 27 and inspired the annual Angel Ball benefit.

On the eve of one of the city's best events, StyleList caught up with Lorraine Schwartz for an exclusive chat.

StyleList: Tell us about the medical research grant you founded with your brother and sister.
Lorraine Schwartz: My mother passed away from cancer 15 years ago at the age of 55. So, cancer is something that's in our family and it's horrible. I always feel that there are two kinds of people: those who went through having cancer or loosing someone from cancer and those who haven't.

I've known Denise Rich for several years and I've supported her Angel Ball, but this year I wanted to be an actual part of it and do this grant. We're donating the money ourselves and I'm just thrilled to be able to support doctors who are doing this really important research. I think if people knew more about cancer, they'd realize it's much easier to be a donor than it seems.

SL: After the night's over, what do you want people to walk away with?
LS: First, I just want people to have a great night. But most importantly, I want people to realize that if we each give a little bit, we can help eradicate cancer from the world. Hopefully when people see who else is involved and how much we can raise, they'll want to become a part of it. If I get just one more person involved with the cause -- not just financially, but emotionally -- that's great.

This season of "America's Next Top Model" made us short girls want to stand on our stiletto-clad tippy toes and cheer.

Creator Tyra Banks and company tossed the rule book that stated contestants on The CW network's reality show had to be at least 5 feet, 7 inches tall to compete. This season that is the maximum height for competitors.

By modeling standards the ladies still in the running to be, "America's Next Top Model," are dwarfs. Although, by fashion standards, most would look down on the average American women, who is a tad shy of 5 feet, 4 inches tall, according to the National Center for Health Statistics.

Certainly, it was time to give the vertically challenged their due. But StyleList wondered, would these aspiring models careers' have long legs once their reality experience wraps in November?

We turned to Top Model's flamboyant runway coach, judge and former model, Miss J. Alexander, to catwalk us through the short season. He spoke with us from Paris, where he lives and is promoting his new book, "Follow the Model."

StyleList: We've seen "Top Model" embrace plus-size girls. Why was it important to devote an entire season to women of shorter stature?
J. Alexander: Because you have so many girls who are not 6 feet tall and on the runway, but are beautiful and can sell beauty products and face cream and mascara just as well. And you don't need to be a glamazon to sell beauty.

SL: What did you learn from the cast about the possibilities for shorter models? Will they be able to rise to the demands and expectations the fashion world may ultimately impose on them?
JA: Dealing with Tyra and (fashion photographer and judge) Nigel Barker and myself what do you think? They learned many valuable lessons on how they could make their size work to their advantage. Some did rise to the challenge and some did not live up to "Top Model" standards which require change, determination and hard work.

What does "sex" smell like to designer Henry Holland? Mimosa, suntan lotion and pine trees, with a dash of musk.

That's what Holland's perfumer told us last night at an exclusive gathering in New York's West Village for the launch of the Six Scents: Series Two fragrance collection.

The quirky British designer, who is famous for his "House of Holland" clothing line featuring t-shirts plastered with suggestive catchphrases like "Do Me in the Park Marc" (and his relationship with muse Agyness Deyn) hosted last night's event and designed a fragrance for the collection.

The Six Scents Fragrance Initiative is an annual collaboration that connects six prominent designers and perfumers to develop an exclusive series of fragrances to raise money for a charity.

Series One featured scents by Preen and Alexandre Herchcovitch and benefited Designers Against AIDS. Now in its second year, Series Two is composed of fragrances by designers Phillip Lim, Henrik Vibskov, Damir Doma, Toga, Richard Nicoll and Henry Holland, and a portion of the proceeds goes to Pro-Natura to support their environmental sustainability programs.

In the crowd of stylish New Yorkers and sweet smelling fragrances, we found Givaudan perfumer Stephen Nilsen, who talks to StyleList about his collaboration with Henry Holland.

The fashion world continues to go mad for "Mad Men."

In honor of the debut of the limited edition "Mad Men" suit, Brooks Brothers converted the fifth floor of its Madison Avenue store in Midtown Manhattan Tuesday to a classically masculine bar, complete with "patrons" (mannequins) clad in outfits borrowed from the show's wardrobe.

Martinis, Manhattans and merriment were the order of the evening, though it was not quite as boisterous as a Sterling Cooper office party.

The show's costume designer Janie Bryant, dressed in a modern sequined dress from Jovanni and a Dolce & Gabbana tailored jacket, shared some of her secrets about our favorite characters with StyleList.

StyleList: What's the style of Don Draper (played by Jon Hamm)?

Bryant: For me, he's always very masculine, very minimal in his color palette with dark browns and grays -- always very masculine tones. Even if he wears a Glen plaid, it will be in the grays.

StyleList: In Rome, Don Draper wore a powder blue jacket -- it was as if a whole new day had dawned with Don Draper going casual.

Bryant: I designed that sports coat for him. They were on vacation. It was their romantic time together and we were seeing this couple in a different situation that we never seen them in. It was about that couple being in a different environment.

StyleList: Let's talk about Betty (played by January Jones). She has been wearing some interesting dresses, like the one she wore to the Rockefeller fundraiser at her house.

ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" Emmy-award winning head costumer Randall Christensen was tailor made for his job. He's a former competitive ballroom dancer who has been stitching sexy, glitzy costumes for more than two decades.

He was already one of the most sought after costume designers on the international ballroom circuit when he joined "DWTS" during its second season. "Talk about luck," he says. "Who knew being a ballroom designer could lead me to something like this."

As he prepared costumes for Monday's live show recently, Christensen described a design process a bit like a jive; fast and frenetic.

StyleList: Ballroom costumes are so over-the-top. Do you think viewers get that excess is part of its tradition?

Randall Christensen: We've been on for so many seasons [nine] that I think the audience has learned a lot about ballroom. They understand the costumes are part of the drama of the performance. At first, I think they were probably saying, "What's up with that crazy costume?," but I feel like they've grown with us. They are in on it now. They want to see what we're going to do next. Not some simple black cocktail dress.

For Anderson Cooper, there is no better way to whip your body in shape than to hire a male model.

Cooper's trainer Thelonious "T.J." Johnson has modeled for both fitness and fashion publications and while nurturing a budding acting career he also trains celebrities in gyms across Manhattan.

Johnson has graced the pages of Details and Italian Vogue as a fashion model, as well as cover of Maximum Fitness magazine.

In addition to CNN anchor Cooper, with whom he has worked for two years, his gym clientele has included everyone from "Good Morning America" weatherman Sam Champion to celebrity hair stylists Oribe (whose clients include Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Campbell and Diana Ross) and Roque Jimenez (Mariah Carey's mane man).

But now the Sports Illustrated stunner -- aka Mrs. Andy Roddick -- will soon be reporting to work at the New York ASPCA shelter, where she will be volunteering, she says, to do things like "change poopy sheets."

Oh, the glamorous life of a model!

Decker (flanked by top fashion models Estonian Tiiu Kuik and Floridian Michelle Bushwell) was at the ASPCA Young Friends Benefit in New York, where she told StyleList: "I have four animals -- dogs, plus two cats."

Apparently it's not only Elle that's featuring multiple cover girls for November. Vogue asked four of the seven stars of Rob Marshall's movie-musical "Nine" to grace the cover of its November issue, shot by debt-laden photographer Annie Leibovitz on a beach in Malibu.

While their "Nine "co-stars Fergie, Judi Dench and Sophia Loren didn't make the cut (you can find them inside the fashion bible) -- Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, and Kate Hudson did.

Writer Plum Sykes got to visit all leading ladies backstage during a day of shooting, in an experience Sykes describes as absolute "icon overload."

Valentino and his partner Giancarlo Giammetti stop by to see Loren, who says "Nine" is the best movie she's ever done. While famed director Pedro Almodovar walks by in search of his muse, the rumored to be pregnant Cruz.

With all four Fashion Weeks over (never forget!), there's suddenly room in our schedules to enjoy normal non-fashion activities like, say, go to the movies.

Numero Uno on our must-see list? "Couples Retreat," which opens today and stars the "money" combo of Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, as well as leading ladies Kristin Davis and Kristen Bell.

The film centers around several couples who find themselves on a not-so-idyllic tropical vacation; you can imagine the hilarity that follows...

StyleList had a chance to talk to the cast (watch the above video), so naturally the conversation turned to -- what else? -- fashion and beauty.

On the subject of her recently shuttered clothing line -- prompting Favreau to quip, "There goes my Christmas list!" -- Kristin Davis had this to say:

"It was a great thing to be able to try a whole other job that's not my job, but we launched in August '08, beginning of Recessionville -- pretty hard."

Kristen Bell, meanwhile, weighed in on her desert island beauty must: "If you're going to a desert island without SPF, you might as well bring a rope and hang yourself," she told us.

Rosebud Salve and the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Stick also got Bell's seal of approval, much to co-star Jason Bateman's amusement. Plus, the "couple" reveals a sordid Halloween costume past.
