That's what world-renowned celebrity colorist Kelly Van Gogh has set out to change. "There's no reason on this earth to have 52 shades of brown," she tells StyleList. "It's redundant and confusing."

And at the salon, you'll get the perfect hue, but who has the time (and money) it takes for touch ups every few weeks?

Van Gogh heard these frustrations from her clients -- and she didn't have a solution. "Color needs maintenance but I couldn't get to my clients every three weeks. They were asking for help, but there wasn't an at-home box color I could recommend," she told StyleList.

So she invented her own: Kelly Van Gogh Root Rehab at-home color system and Heads Up at-home highlighting system take the guesswork out of at-home color maintenance, starting with simplifying the color choice process.

I've was never really into tools. That is, until I took some classes with sewing rock star Kenneth D. King at NYC's Fashion Institute of Technology.

He was always coming up with something that would make the job easier, and it was all thanks to his tools.

"Touch my tools and die," he told us.

Of course, since then, I've been into tools.

And there are a lot of amazing high-tech sewing supplies out there. Here are some recently discovered favorites:

  • CraftVideo: Sewing App - There's an iPhoe application for everything these days, including sewing. Download this one to take your stitching up a notch with the help of numerous tutorials -- from how to thread a sewing machine to making your blah jeans skinny.
  • Bendable LED Light - Sewing machines come with a light, but it's not the best for seeing important details, like where the needle is going into the fabric. Check out this brightener which attaches to the side of your machine.

Airbrush makeup has been a trick of the trade for top makeup artists looking to create an ultra-natural, long-lasting finish for their clients. The fine mist technology makes skin look perfect (so long, pores!) and it can last all day without budging.

2 Love My Lips is a line of five lip-plumping, breath-freshening lip glosses, and they happen to come with a discreet testing kit.

Chanel Jade Rose is pretty, versatile, and probably not sold out!

Heartbeats by Lady Gaga, high resolution in-ear headphones -- think fancy, bejeweled ear buds -- are the latest addition to the popular Beats by Dr. Dre line of headphones from Monster.

The jewel-shaped style will come in three colors -- rose, silver (very disco ball!) and black -- and, of course, are meant to be noticed -- like Lady Gaga would be associated with anything understated.

"In the deepest hour of the night, I confess to myself three things; I would die if I was forbidden to write, forbidden to love, or forbidden to fashion," Lady Gaga says in a statement.

"Heartbeats embody the trinity of my human-being, with one additional vow: that SOUND matters. Wear heartbeats, love each other and celebrate the art and lifestyle of music," the singer adds.

Uh, sure, why not? Available in October with an assortment of eartips, prices will range from $99.95 to $149.95.

This technology is already in use by designers like Norma Kamali, who has launched a new service that allows clients to receive a Skype call from the designer during a "Try Before You Buy" party.

The Norma Kamali Collection's personal shoppers select pieces that match the lifestyle and body type of the virtual attendees, then ship a trunk full of designs for each woman to try on and experience in person.

We chatted with Jamie Sorcher, resident tech expert at Skype, about how this technology could affect the way we experience fashion and shopping in the very near future.

Pants that make it look like you lost 10 pounds? Um, yes please.

The term "control top" usually conjures up the image of a middle-aged woman (with bad hair) stuffed into sausage casing-like, stomachache-inducing biker shorts.

A designer is only as good as his/her tools, and these days, you'll find some of the very latest and greatest online.

In sewing circles, these tools are called notions, and here are a few of my absolute favorites:

Transferring accurate markings onto your fabric is critical for good construction and that requires more than the standard and messy tailor's chalk found at chain fabric stores -- it cracks and crumbles and can be hard to remove.

Enter the elegant, heart-shaped Chakoner (below), which lays down a chalk line so precise you'll smile every time you pull it out of your kit. The chalk has just the right consistency, not too dense or too faint.

While I prefer traditional chalk, you can also go spy-style with dual-marking disappearing ink, water soluble pens.
