Ponytail

If you think there's nothing more to a ponytail than securing your hair in an elastic band, think again! From extra high to wrap around styles and from volumized to modern bouffants, updated takes on the classic ponytail are the hottest hair style for this hot summer season.

Bouffant: Blugirl Spring 2008To get this '50s-inspired look, start by blow drying your hair upside down to get an extra lift at the root. Once it's totally dry, use a fine tooth comb and a light hold hairspray to tease the crown of your hair.

Bouffant: Mandy MooreAfter you've achieved as much or as little volume as you desire, gently use a soft brush to smooth back the sides of your hair as you secure it into a ponytail leaving the top puffy.

Bouffant: Jessica SimpsonFor an added twist, curl or tease your ponytail to get a full, flirty look like Simpson's.

    Mile High: Lucy Lui
The key to the high pony tail is getting your hair smooth. To make sure you are bump free like Lui, leave just a little moisture in your hair when you are blow drying and then apply a small amount of gel through your roots.

Mile High: Rodarte Spring 2008Next, flip your head upside down. Using a soft brush in one hand pull your hair up from the nape of your neck to the height you desire using your free hand to secure the hair.

Mile High: FergieFinally, flip your head back, smooth out the top and sides and firmly secure with a strong elastic band. To add extra glamor to this style, follow Fergie's lead and run a flat iron through your hair for a super sleek, straight finish.

    Wrapped: Amy Adams
To get Adams' sleek look, start by sweeping your hair smoothly back into a basic ponytail. Next, take a small section (roughly a quarter inch) from the underside and wrap it clockwise around the hair, covering up the elastic band. Next...

    Wrapped: La Perla Spring 2008
...finish the style by securing the wrapped section with a bobby pin on the underside and then applying a light amount of hairspray to prevent fly aways. For added glamour, use a flat iron to straighten the ponytail.

    Wrapped: Beyonce
To get B's sky-high pony, flip your hair upside down and brush all the way to the crest of your head before securing your ponytail. Wrap, fasten, spray and voila!

Ponytail style #5 is awful. It was awful in the early 1960's, as was the gobs b lue eyeliner. It makes me think of a 12 year old playing in her mother's makeu p with the wrong colors, and going off to junior high school. Amy Winehouse ca n not be copied with blue eyeliner.

This is silly. Every woman who tends to her long hair knows how to put it up i n an attractive ponytail. What I want to see is some serious braid-work. Now , thats intricate!
