Favorite Fall Trends

Every season, I make it my mission to take in all the runway shows around the world, scour remote showrooms, and keep my ear to the ground to pick up on the latest talent and trends to find the best edit of products anywhere. My team and I traveled 426 days in order to distill down to our favorite pieces out there from all around the world.

Among all of those, below are my personal favorite trends I will be wearing this fall, and suggestions for you on how to wear them:

TREND: Seventies

This Fall, think "intellectual chic" with classic, polished ensembles that are pulled together and coordinated, from buttoned up blouses topped by fitted cardigans, and accented waists with skinny belts and high-waisted cords. Designers like Chloe, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors are loving this look.

Style Tip: Think Bianca Jagger and team a vintage-print dress with tan boots.

My favorite seventies products:

Color blocking continues to be key, but this time the colors have a more autumnal feel. I loved the mix of muted seventies colors alongside richer jewel tones in plum, sapphire and emerald. Try monochromatic dressing with a piece like this from Vionnet to get the look.

Pick a pair of cord flares to rock this trend like these "Love Story" stretch-corduroy wide-leg pants from Citizens of Humanity to see you through to fall.

To accompany the clean, 70's look, I'm moving away from a lot of detailed hardware to a more simple and lighter-weight bag. This bucket style from Coach is a staple of my wardrobe this season.

TREND: Masculine vs. Feminine
A trend that was prevalent on the runway, Dolce & Gabbana encapsulated the masculine/feminine look best with girls dressed as girls and girls dressed as boys. I can do both the full on femininity that is fitted and sexy AND the masculine and sharp with pants taking center stage topped by a new-again double breasted jacket in wool, velvet or silk.

Style Tip: Wear an oversized crisp white shirt as a dress, teamed with brogues and a fedora.

From floppy hats at Gucci to oversized chapeaus at Lanvin, be sure to invest in some fashionable headgear this season. Burberry Prorsum's acclaimed '60s-inspired collection put flat caps firmly back on the agenda for fall, right in tune with the menswear theme. Team this knitted cashmere style with a boxy coat and tonal bag for the perfect seasonal look.

Style Tip: Embrace your inner femininity; partner a delicate lace blouse with a pencil skirt for inimitably timeless chic.

Shoe: Dolce & Gabbana's star-adorned pumps
Every woman needs a statement shoe in her wardrobe and this is the must-have for fall. This season go with Dolce & Gabbana's star-adorned pumps for elegant feminine appeal.

TREND: Arts & Crafts
This season, designers paid tribute to traditional arts and crafts, from the artisanal patchwork at Rodarte to the Navajo blanket motif at Isabel Marant and the hand-crochet- effect at Christopher Kane, there were many extraordinary renditions of this trend on the runways.

Style Tip: Weave a homespun mood into your fall wardrobe with crochet, print and fringing.

TREND: Grunge In 1992, Marc Jacobs designed his landmark "Grunge" collection for Perry Ellis: flannel shirts, floral dresses and plaid skirts. Now this controversial look is back. Star examples include Altuzarra's khaki parkas, Thakoon's boyish checks, Missoni's long skirts with oversized knits and a lot of Alexander Wang. This look is really effortlessly cool; think Kate Moss and Johnny Depp circa 1994. Style Tip: Wear this floor skimming skirt with an oversized sweater by day, then swap for a slinky vest after dark.

Pencil Skirts and 1940s Style

Late 1940s fashion is tailored perfection. The decade saw a revolution in fashion design when Christian Dior introduced the New Look with his first collection in 1947. Gone was the austerity of the war years with its military style suits with huge shoulder pads and in came its replacement: the feminine hourglass figure.

7 Fall Wardrobe Classics

For many ladies, a change in season means a change in wardrobe -- and, inevitably, an upward change in your credit card balance. But stacking your drawers with classic, well-made pieces is a great way to save money and look amazing for any occasion.
