How To Make An Owl Pillow (PHOTOS)

HuffPost Social Reading

Owls are some of my favorite creatures and since I wrote about owl pellets in a recent post, it just seems fitting to stick with the theme. This is a quick "how to" for making a small owl pillow.

I found the image for my owl in one of my own paintings.

I cleaned up the owl in Photoshop and vectorized it using a fantastic program called Vector Magic.
I love to vectorize things because you can give your images a stylized, "paint-by -numbers" effect.

*You can vectorize your own images for free on the Vector Magic site.

I created the image and the pattern for the owl to fit on an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper. You will need heat transfer paper for the owl image. If you want to do this project at home you can email me at diyrenegade@gmail.com for a PDF of the pattern and owl image.

Cut out the pattern and the artwork.

Pin the pattern to two layers of cotton canvas.

Follow the instructions on the heat transfer paper packet and iron the image to the fabric.

Sew the two layers of fabric together leaving a few inches open at the bottom of the owl for the stuffing. Then stitch the remaining opening closed by hand.
