The Redemption of Eve: Return to The Garden

HuffPost Social Reading

Help! I'm drowning in Fashion Week. Hurricane Irene blew through New York City and flooded my work room.

I've been consumed with my Spring 2012 presentation, living and breathing all of the work. I put a pen to paper to describe Eve: the vines twist as she takes her first breath. She feels a rush of joy to have feet and legs no longer rooted to the earth. She is alive and in bloom. The mystery of her identity is revealed. She is Eve, Eve is redeemed, and finally returned to the garden.

We barely made it to Milk Studios on Sunday September 11th, but the gods smiled on our presentation and all was good. The Redemption of Eve: Return to the Garden was somehow the culmination of everything I have worked towards. The models were transformed and became my birds through the genius of MAC. The Stephen Petronio dancers leapt through the air with the greatest of ease. Jeffrey Palmer, our countertenor for the Metropolitan Opera, found notes I never knew existed. Danny Bensi produced magic with his cello. How perfect was this night? Karen Erickson entered the magic garden also, if just for a little while.

I never wanted to show at Fashion Week, but now I'm addicted. For one glorious night I am privileged to show a fantasy, and have my dear friends China Chow, Lucy Lui, Karen Berg, Hamish Bowles, Ikram, Josh Goldman, Tim Blanks and so many more colleagues, friends, and family celebrate with me.

The festivites continued late into the night at the warmest eatery, Millesime Restaurant in the Carlton Hotel. The food and the company warmed my heart.

This project has made me rethink my work. Jewelry has been my focus for the last 28 years. Now art has once again become my passion.

Check out some photos from the Erickson Beamon Spring 2012 presentation below.
