Jason Wu's Top 10 Style Tips for Fall

HuffPost Social Reading

The fall social season has a new kickoff date, and this year, it's August 29 -- when designer Jason Wu joins retailer-to-the-stars Jeffrey Kalinsky (founder of the Jeffrey boutiques) in the haute south for the 19th annual Jeffrey Fashion Cares runway show and charity event in Atlanta to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the Atlanta AIDS Fund.

Traditionally arriving a week (and 850 miles) before NYC's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Jeffrey Fashion Cares is where patrons get to hobnob with their fave fashion icons -- including previous guest designers Oscar de la Renta, Isaac Mizrahi, and Proenza Schouler, among others -- and sneak peeks at new looks from the runway.

Wu's back for a second helping of southern hospitality at the annual A-Town shindig (he was a previous guest in '09), and since his must-have "Mini Miss Wu" bags are currently all the rage from coast-to-coast, I wanted to know what else he sees in his crystal ball for fall.

Below, Wu creates a philanthropist's guide to looking great for the upcoming social season:

10. Never leave home without this accessory ...

The "Jourdan" bag in ivory from my Fall 2011 Collection

9. Draw inspiration from history ...

Diana Vreeland is forever an inspiration.

8. Wear these colors together...

Fuchsia and red!

7. Cover your knees or take hems higher?

It's all about a thigh-high slit.

6. See this movie before you get dressed ...

Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless.

5. Choose a shoe that ...

Fits! When choosing shoes, pay close attention to fit. Just like clothing, fit is of the upmost importance to achieving a great look.

4. Make an entrance at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week with ...

Karlie Kloss 's fierce runway walk.

3. Party to the sounds of ...

Cut Copy

2. Tell all your friends about ...

Annisa (restaurant). It is always such a gorgeous feast.

1. Be true to your cause.

Jeffrey is such a phenomenal inspiration and so is Fashion Cares. I'm glad to be back for the second time to support this tremendous cause.
