A Color Palette Emerges

It's only the end of day two at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, but the color palette for the season has claimed its dominance. Wines, maroons, and rusts lead the charge in a deeply autumnal color palette. Greens range from dark forest to hinting at peacock blue to a dull chartreuse. And did I mention black is back? Sure, there's some navy in there and lots of gray, but if you've missed wearing head-to-toe black in these seasons of bright primary colors and delicate sorbet
pastels, you're in luck.
Lisbeth Salander and her real-life portrayer Rooney Mara of the black cut-out dresses seem to have pervaded designer's minds, as the image of a tough, modern warrior loomed large at Kimberly Ovitz, Nicholas K, Tess Giberson and others. Also perfect for Swedish winters are the
massive amounts of savage furs on the runway, from Peter Som's multi-colored collages to Yigal Azrouel's towering trapper hats and booties to Jason Wu's chubby collars and arms on wool coats. Leather stays strong for the season from pants to dresses to jackets, especially those with shearling touches or mixed fabrics.
If fur isn't your taste, you can wrap yourself up in layers of woolen blanket-inspired wraps from Rag & Bone and textural knits from Doo.Ri. Let's just hope next winter gets all the chilly temperatures that we've missed so far this year - these are not clothes for balmy
Januarys.
