The Glamorous Life

Great fashion takes us on a trip out of the ordinary, dreaming of the life that we could lead if only we had that wardrobe. Thanks to Michael Kors and Marchesa, I'm now officially looking into the life of a jetsetting socialite or maybe a major movie star. Who else would be glamorous enough to carry off the extreme luxury of Kors' furs and cashmeres and Marchesa's elaborate confections?

Michael Kors ticked off so many of the major trends of the season -- furs? Check. Black and red? Check. Menswear? Check. Cutouts in eveningwear? Check. -- but he did it while remaining so true to his own aesthetic that one has to truly marvel. Could this drive up the price of his stock even more? Why not? From the bold red and black buffalo prints that kicked off the show to the natty tweed and perfectly tailored leather dress to the divinely simple and sexy evening gowns, this is a show that covered every moment of his customer's life. And what a life to lead!

Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman may come as close to couture as any working American designer. The beading! The tulle! The embroidery! To witness the workmanship of their creations up close is truly the only way to appreciate them. After a trip back in time to the '20s last season, Marchesa righted course to create a show that is beyond trends and sets the pace for red carpets. Every stylist in Hollywood should be calling to beg for the liquid copper strapless gown with swirls on the hip for the upcoming Oscars, but I'd be happy to see any of these at the Kodak Theater.

And for those moments where I have to deal with the reality of my own life, I think I'd like to snap up Lyn Devon's collection, filled with flattering separates meant for work without feeling corporate or stuffy. Her cropped trousers, full skirts and not overly snug knits are just perfect for the life of a working girl in New York City -- my own fantasy come true.
