Every season, our favorite mags showcase the hottest new trends -- and every season we're reminded we don't have $3,000+ (let alone $300) to drop on a single one. That's why this fall, we did our own trend spotting, hunting down bargains in the process. Check out these stylish steals.

Minidresses

Autumn's above-the-knee dresses fall somewhere between tunic- and shift-length -- modest when paired with the season's other trends: opaque tights or leggings and ankle boots. Pricewise, they run $34.99 (left), $60 (center) and $39.99 (right). You can also turn your man's tee into a mini by cinching it with a belt.

Skinny, Colored Jeans

Skinny jeans aren't going anywhere and this fall they come in colors too. We found these cute Old Navy jeans (the ones the model's wearing on the cover slide) for a reasonable $34.50. If that's too rich for your blood, H&M has a slim-fit style for fall that's $12.90 and Target's got skinnies on sale right now for as low as $12.49.

Wideleg Pants

You know it's gonna be a great fall when skinny and widelegs can co-exist in fashion harmony. We're digging these Gap trousers that fall just as beautifully over the season's other big trend -- ankle boots -- as they do within our price range at $49.50. Target's got fuller widelegs by Isaac Mizrahi for $34.99.

Ankle Boots

Booties are joining leggings and oversized tees to bring the '80s back this fall. At Barney's they're going for anywhere from $345 to $650. At Target, you can find a pair by Mossimo (top) for $29.99 or Isaac Mizrahi at the bargain price of $36.99.

Cropped Jackets

Cropped jackets were made to complete minidress-over-leggings ensembles. Transition from early fall's Indian summer to the brrr of November in these styles by justsweet that leave enough change in your pocket for the season's other must-haves. (left, $55; right, $69)

Headbands

Yup, they're back and H&M's sells a pack of two for just $1.99. If you're willing to spend a little more, Target's bands are $6.99 while Bluefly.com's got a designer one (pictured here) for $17.99.

Opaque/Colored/Textured Tights

Colored, striped, even polka-dotted tights hit the runways at the fall '07 fashion shows (most notably at the Tracy Reese preview). Now you can experiment with color with Old Navy's $6.50 stockings or Urban Outfitters' sweater knit crochet tights which go for $4.99.

Leggings

Interchangeable with tights or skinny jeans and perfect for layering under jeans and pants on colder days, leggings are going to be an important piece this fall. In other words, invest in a quality pair that stretches comfortably around your curves. We found these on sale for $34.99 at bluefly.com.

Metallic Anything

You can't stop the shining this fall thanks to the flashes of silver, gold and bronze lighting up fall makeup, nail polish, clothing -- even outerwear. We thought this $90 Baby Phat vest (also available in silver and black) would look great with a denim jacket underneath or solid turtleneck underneath.
