Gallery Nigel Barker's Globetrotting Go-To's
Now it has to be soft soft soft! (I actually pack two and change halfway thru a long flight to keep that clean feeling!) My go to T-shirts are from John Varvatos and James Perse
Well I know you maybe thinking I can't afford that, well even an old cashmere sweater can double as a throw. They are perfect for going between you and the awful blankets and pillows the airlines give you. It's the only way I can get my son to even touch one of those scratchy pillows.
Mine was a gift from GQ (Smythson of Bond Street) and I first thought what would I need that for but actually it's literally the first thing I pack and the most important travel essential. I keep my passport, my airline tickets, baggage receipts, Airline Frequent Flier cards, foreign currency, a pen and just about any thing I might need to access quickly!
Well obviously a compact camera! My personal favorite is the Sony RX-1 but the Sony RX-100 is a great camera too. Have the camera handy during the flight as there are often fabulous shots to be taken directly out the window.
I use Redoxon and Berocca brands and take one to two tablets of each one on every flight. They almost guarantee I arrive feeling refreshed and ready to hit the road running.
The plane is not the cleanest place on the planet and you don't want to take anything off the plane you didn't bring on with you.... so sanitize those hands as often as you remember!
I like the soft oiled canvas bags and my favorite one comes from Jack Spade. Mine is big enough for my 17" laptop and as a result big enough for a lot more too. Get one with a shoulder strap but also with handles so you don't need to ruin your jacket if you've stuffed your carry on for a weekend getaway.
Now you may think that's unnecessary but it's far nicer and refreshing than those horrible rough hot towels that they pass around...don't get me started!
Look even when you are lucky enough to fly in business or 1st most of the time they don't have your favorite snack or if they do you should be eating something a little less calorific... I love roasted unsalted almonds from whole foods and trail mix bars - I am part squirrel if you wondered.
