Tart fruits like lemons, oranges, and grapefruits and their juices all contain acids that erode the enamel of the tooth, causing discoloration. Unfortunately, you can’t really undo any damage done by acids, so Maddahi recommends that you limit your consumption of citrus fruits to just a couple of times a week. He also suggests sipping lemonade or orange juice through a straw, which allows you to bypass the front teeth for the most part. You can support your enamel with a toothpaste like Renamel, but Maddahi warns that once enamel is gone, it can’t be restored.
