Every time there's a Chanel show we patiently zoom in on runway pictures of models' hands and wait for Style.com's excellently detailed backstage reports–because Chanel nails often sets trends.

Chanel went the trendy nail art route for its couture show a few months ago, doing a sort of reverse French manicure in pink and silver. But for spring, Chanel's makeup guru, Peter Philips, took nails back to basics: He gave models a traditional French manicure.

We've been conditioned for years to consider the French mani declassé and tacky–it's definitely fallen out of favor amongst the cool girls. But now that it's been reclaimed by Chanel, is this its comeback moment? Yes, trendy colored ironic French manis have popped up on runways for many seasons (see: Jenni Kayne's yellow tips this season), but Peter Philips did a standard French, complete with white tips. Style.com is reporting that Philips used one coat of Ballerina with the soon to be released Eastern Light.

So get your white nail pens ready and steady your hand–the French is back! Will you go for it?
